Rhoyda:
“I’m still trying to figure out how you got a cute f*****g boyfriend.” Mika said to me as we got to first period.
“I don’t know.” I told Mika. “I’m sure you can find one around here that you like.”
Jasmine looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
“Are you trying to be funny?” She asked me.
I looked at Natasia, who was just staring at me.
“I didn’t think it was funny at all.” Mika told me.
I turned back to Mika and sighed.
“I wasn’t making a joke out of it. I’m just saying that there are a lot of men at this school who want you, Mika. Talk to them.”
“No, I want one like yours.”
Mika took her seat and I just rolled her eyes at her. She was doing too much for me and I was beginning to question myself as to why I even wasted my time hanging out with them. Natasia, even though she messed with the guy that I had feelings for, she was still my friend. We grew up together. But, there was no way I was going to trust her again, especially around Dai.
Speaking of Dai, as the rest of the class piled into the room, Dai was nowhere to be seen. I looked to the side of me, confused before I turned to Natasia. Even she shrugged her shoulders.
“Has he called you?” She asked me.
I looked down at my phone and there was not a missed call or even a text message from him. I wondered what was going on.
“Nothing.” I whispered.
“He probably realized that you weren’t shit.” Mika said, sarcastically.
Ugh, she was irking me. I just turned back to the front and tried to focus on the teacher. Ha, like that was possible. I decided to text Dai to see why he wasn’t there at the school.
Baby, where are you?
I sent the message, but as the minutes passed and it was getting close to the end of the first period, there was no response. I sighed as I sat slumped in my seat. He told me he was going to be there. Did something bad happen to him? My mind was not on the subject that day. And when I was able to leave the classroom, I didn’t see him, anywhere. I sighed and sat on the bleachers where we first talked. I was sad that he didn’t show up.
“Rhoyda?!” Natasia shouted my name as rushed over to me. “Rhoyda, what’s wrong?”
“He said he’ll be here.” I told her. “Did I do something wrong?”
“No.”
I looked down at my phone and sighed. There was still nothing. Maybe I should call him since I was already out. I dialed Dai’s number. At first., it went straight to voicemail. Then when I called the second time, a female answered.
“Hello?” She answered.
“Um…” I stopped.
I wasn’t sure what to say. Her answering the phone caught me offguard. What was I supposed to say.
“Um, is…?”
“Is this Rhoyda?”
“Yes.”
“Hi, honey. It’s Belle, Dai’s sister.”
“Oh my god, you had me worried for a second.”
“I’m sorry. You must be looking for Dai.”
“Is he around?”
“I see… He didn’t tell you, did he?”
“From what you’re referring to, no I don’t know.”
“Hm. I was going to go for a tour around the city. Would you like to come?”
“Um, can-?”
“No friends. Just you. We’ll see them later.”
I looked at Natasia, then nodded my head.
“Okay.” I told her.
“Good, come out the gate now.”
A black car pulled up and I hurried over to the gate. Natasia tried to follow, but I stopped as I got there.
“Belle said just me.” I told her.
“Oh? Well, will we see you later?”
“Yeah, I’ll text you.”
Natasia and I hugged and then, I checked to see if there were any teachers or security guards nearby before I rushed through the gate and ran to the car. The door opened for me and Belle poked her head out.
“Come on.” She insisted.
I got in the car and closed the door behind me.
“Ryoko, take us around San Francisco, please?” Belle requested.
“Yes, ma’am.” Ryoko said and drove away from the school.
Belle sighed as she reached into the fridge and pulled out a cold wine. She squealed and smiled before she turned to me.
“Please tell me you drink?” She asked.
“Yes, a little.” I told her.
“Good girl.”
She prepared the drinks and handed me a cup of my own. We sipped the fruity alcoholic beverage in silence. Once Belle finished her stuff, she turned to me.
“Now, I know you were wondering about your f**k boy, Dai.” She said.
Wow, f**k boy? I chuckled before taking another sip.
“Well, I haven’t had s*x, so I don’t think I should call him that.” I told her.
“You’re pure?”
“Only first base.”
“Hm.”
She nodded her head and threw the cup away in the trash.
“Here’s the thing: My brother is in a week slumber.”
My eyes widened. A week? What the hell did he do?
“I know you’re wondering how. Here’s the cause. My brother is a demon as well as a mortal. He has powers, but they do come with limitations. My brother used one of the powers last night and went a little past the amount of time he was supposed to do it, so in the end, he has to sleep to regain his energy.”
I nodded and looked out the window.
“So, the one I’ve been talking to is….?”
“His name is Sukuna. The Vessel is Dai. He’s the guy Sukuna is using to be here.”
“How is Dai?”
Belle smirked before she knocked on the window that was blocking us off from the driver.
“Change of plans, go to the house.” She told him.
Ryoko did a U-Turn, then went to Dai’s house.
***
I knocked on the bedroom door before I walked in with Belle behind me.
I told you, he’s sleep.” She sighed as she pushed past me to get into the room.
Dai was knocked out on the bed. He looked so f*****g handsome and peaceful on it. I followed her over to the bed and sat beside him. Belle lifted his eyelid and nodded.
“I’ll remove the necklace.” She told me. “Dai would appear then.”
She did just as she said and Dai turned over on his side. She walked over to his dresser and placed the necklace in it.
“Try calling Dai’s name.” She told me.
I placed my hand on his chest to balance myself.
“Dai?” I called his name.
Dai shifted a little bit, but he didn’t answer me. Belle walked back over to Dai and slapped him on the arm, hard. Dai sat up and rubbed his arm, glaring at her at the same time.
“Ow!” He shouted at her.
“That’s the real Dai.” Belle told me.
Dai looked at me and his eyes widened. I just stared at him. He was different than Sukuna. Something I didn’t want in a boyfriend at all.
“Yes, he’s a lot weaker than my brother.” Belle told me.
“Um, wow.” I chuckled. “I totally forgot that you had a demon in you. So, I’m not really… Um…. Used to this side of you.”
Dai smiled and nodded.
“I’m not a rude guy.” Dai told me. “I’m more of a calmly romantic person. Sukuna is the Alpha. I heard that’s what you really wanted.”
He wasn’t wrong. Sukuna was who I needed in my life.
“I mean, I can get to know the host for a minute.” I told him, shrugging my shoulders.
Anything to be near my boyfriend again, I decided to give the real Dai a chance.
“Can I get to know you?” I asked him.
“I’m boring, but… Okay.” Dai told me.
I climbed on the bed and moved beside him and the two of us just sat there, staring in different directions. Belle whistled before she turned and walked out of the room. Dai sat with his legs crossed, something unusually weird to me once it comes to guys doing it.
“So, can I know your real age?” She asked me.
“If I do, you won’t like it.” Dai told me.
“29?”
Dai didn’t respond. My eyes widened as I went up on the numbers.
“Um, 45?”
He turned to me and I sighed. As I checked him out, I could see his actual age on him. He had muscles, but he looked a lot worn out and his hair was all over the place. I didn’t know this was going to work with Sukuna out of commission for a good week.
“Why do I feel like you’re a total stranger?” I asked him.
“You’re Sukuna’s girl.” He told me. “Not mine.”
I looked back at him and he got off the bed. Shaking my head, I got off as well and followed behind him.
“What am I supposed to do while you’re in the house, slumbering?” I asked him. “I miss my boyfriend.”
“And you’ll get Sukuna back. Just not right now.”
I smacked my lips and stormed out of the room. Dai wasn’t like Sukuna at all. Since he was older, there was no way for me to have fun with him. Ugh, I walked down the stairs and headed into the kitchen where Belle was.
“Okay.” Belle told the chefs in the room. “Just make something me and my brother would like.”
I leaned against the counter and Belle turned to me.
“So, what did you think?” She asked me. “Not the guy you thought he was, right?”
“Not at all.” I told her.
“Well, Sukuna will be back. You’d just have to wait the week out.”
Ugh! A week was too f*****g long for me. Sighing, I nodded.
“What can I do to… Keep him out of this deep slumber?”
“Nothing you can do, honey. He just has to not use his powers unless it’s something he really needs to use.”
“Then, I will have a talk with him. I don’t like being left alone.”
“Okay. Well, would you like to hang out here?”
I shook my head. There was no way I was going to hang out with Dai until Sukuna was back.
“Can I… Can I just get a ride back home?”
“Sure.”
Belle snapped her fingers and a guard came over to where we were. He stood there, staring at Belle as he waited for her to give him instructions.
“Take her home, please?” She asked him.
“Right away, ma’am.” He said, then he looked over at me. “Come with me.”
I waved goodbye to Belle, then followed after the guard.
***
Dai angered me. Seeing how he was as a mortal was something I wished I didn’t see. He wasn’t what I thought and he wasn’t what I wanted. He was so different, it frustrated me. Sukuna was…. He was… UGH! I covered my face. Why did I care for the demon and not the man the demon possessed?
The car came to a halt and I uncovered my face, turning my attention to the driver.
“We’re here, love.” He said.
“Thank you.” I told him.
I got out the car and hurried over to the front door. As soon as I got to it, the door was forced open and my sister pulled me inside.
“Who drove you here?” She asked me as she pulled me into the kitchen.
Mother was there, standing in the kitchen. When my eyes met hers, I thought I was in deep s**t with her. It made me wonder if Cezi told her about my late night sneak out. She sat me down in the chair and then, she grabbed the paper off the table and showed me it.
“Is this the guy that you were hugged up with last night?” Cezi asked me.
“Who in the hell told you that you were allowed to date?” Mother questioned me.
“Mom, really?” I asked her.
“Mom, stop.” Cezi told her, then she turned to me. “Rhoy, is this him?”
I sighed before I turned to the paper that Cezi was holding. On the front cover, was Dai. Sorry, Sukuna, I meant. I smiled when I seen him, sexy as ever. He looked so f*****g amazing and I wanted to kiss his picture.
“Is it, Rhoy?” Mother asked.
I looked at them and nodded.
“That’s him?” Mother asked.
“Yes.” I answered.
“How in the hell did you get a a billionaire as a boyfriend? I mean, how old is he?”
“Mom, he’s 19.” Cezi answered.
“Hm… I want to meet him.”
My eyes widened as I snapped them in her direction.
“Mom?!” I shouted her name.
“No buts, Rhoyda.” She cut in. “If you want to date him, you are to invite him for dinner. Until then, you are not allowed to be alone with him.”
“But-.”
“Rhoyda, she has a point.” Cezi cut in. “We don’t know anything about him and last time we checked, you were just single.”
“Oh my god!” I got up from the kitchen chair and walked out of the kitchen.
“Rhoyda!!” Mom shouted my name that time.
I stopped and turned to her.
“We don’t know this guy.” She told me.
“You don’t need to know him.” I said.
“Um, I do. He’s dating my daughter. The least he could do is show his face and answer some questions. If you don’t like this, then get rid of him.”
I rolled my eyes and rushed up the stairs. What the hell? She never was like that with Cezi. I rushed into my room and slammed the door shut. Then, I walked over to the bed and sat down on it. That day was a s**t hole for me. First meeting Sukuna’s host upsetted me more than anything. I thought we could at least try to get along, but he didn’t even attempt to try. I looked down at my hands and sighed. My mother was being an ass at the moment, but I could understand her concerns. So, I decided to listen to her and invite Sukuna to dinner over at my house. I was going to need to clean up really good. Hopefully, he would even accept the offer. Now to wait until the whole week was over.
***
1 week later:
History was such a boring subject. I was not interested in hearing about the f*****g Boston Tea Party. All I could say was that they acted like dumbasses and I was happy they passed on. Rolling my eyes and clicking the end of my pencil on my desk, my eyes stayed glued on the clock. I was that close to dozing off until I felt Natasia tap my shoulder.
“Look who’s here.” She said to me in a low whisper.
My eyes moved to the door and my heart did a f*****g flip. Dai walked into the classroom, wide awake and looking energized. My god, he didn’t look beat up or worn out. He looked young and very attractive. He looked at me as he made his way over to our desk. He threw his bag on the floor and sat beside me. I sighed and turned the other way. His hand snaked its way onto my leg and he squeezed.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered.
I turned to him and shook my head.
“You owe me.” I whispered.
He put his arm around me and pulled me close. His lips touched my ear, forcing me to bit my lip.
“Just know I missed you, baby.” He whispered.
Oh my god, that voice. The one I fell for was back. Nice and deep. I looked at him and he smirked at me before he turned back to the front.
“I need to talk to you.” I told him as I remembered my mother’s request.
He nodded before licking his lips once more.
“What time?” He asked me.
“Um, for what?”
“Dinner with your mom?”
“Oh, um… 6pm?”
He nodded.
“After that, I want us to go to the movies.”
“Just ourselves?”
“Your friends are going to want to go.”
Oh yeah. How could I forget them?
“Ask them.” I told him.
He looked at me before he turned to Natasia.
“Are you guys down for a movie date tonight?” He asked her.
“Anything to be out of the house.” Mika chimed in.
“My parents are back, so I like to avoid them as much as I can.” Leo added.
“Do you guys drive?” Keisha asked. “Collin, do you still have your car?”
“Yeah, I do.” Collin answered. “You want to ride with me?”
I looked behind me and saw everyone talking about the movies in a low tone. Then, I turned my attention to Sukuna, who was back on his phone.
“Ugh.” I smacked my lips.
“Oh baby, you’re going to have to get use to this. It concerns my businesses.”
“I know, but you’re my first boyfriend and yet, I feel like we’re becoming distant.”
He turned back to the teacher, who was still talking about the same damn thing he was before. I decided to call him by his true name.
“Sukuna?” I called him his name.
He turned to me and I swear his eyes shifted to that beautiful crimson color for a few seconds.
“Who told you my name?” He asked me in a whisper.
“Belle.”
“Hm, maybe I should murder her when I get home.”
“Please, don’t make me call you Dai again. I hate him as it is.”
He smirked.
“So, you met him?”
“And I don’t like him. I like you.”
“Was he that bad?”
“Horrible. I’m not used to a nerdy Korean boyfriend. Besides, he’s 45 and that’s just way to old for me.”
Sukuna chuckled and nodded.
“That’s fine. If you don’t want to deal with him, you can call my name.”
“Belle said I shouldn’t if you used your powers.”
“I won’t use them anytime soon.”
I smiled. God, I f*****g missed him so much. That gorgeous ass smile and the way he bit his lip before turning back to focus on class, excited me. My eyes scanned him, completely. The s**t he wore made him look absolutely stunning. His shirts always revealed the ripples on his body. His pants were never too tight. My hand slowly slipped to his thigh and he leaned closer to me.
“Don’t reach for something you are not ready to use yet.” He whispered to me.
The bell rang and he got up from the seat and grabbed his bag. I grabbed mine and got up as well, then I walked with him out of the classroom. As he put his arm around me, people were looking and talking. I just moved closer to him as we headed over to our next class.
“So, what’s the plan tonight?” Collin asked behind me.
“Well, we’re going to the movies.” Sukuna told everybody. “I suggest you bring dates.”
“I already have one.” Natasia said.
“You want me to come get you?” Leo asked her.
Ugh, they made me sick. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the classroom door. Before I could even open it, Sukuna wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me to him. His lips pressed against my neck before his mouth moved to my ear.
“I thought you missed me?” He asked.
I turned to face him and I stared into those same gray eyes.
“I did.” I told him. “I missed you so much.”
He slammed his lips against mine, kissing me deeper than ever.
“Hey, save that for later.” Natasia told us. “The door is open.”
Sukuna released me and I turned, walking into the classroom with Sukuna right behind me, along with the others. We took our seats and of course, Mika’s friends, Jasmine and Nancy walked in, talking s**t. I heard my name and I turned to them.
“Why is my name always in somebody’s mouth?” I asked them.
“Well, people are saying you paid him to be your boyfriend.” Jasmine explained. “Is it true?”
Sukuna, Leo, Liam and Collin burst into laughter. Mika shook her head, but didn’t say anything.
You really think that?” I asked them.
“Well, we don’t know what to believe. You’re quiet as hell about your life and then, one day, BOOM! He shows up and now you’re all lovey dovey.”
“Maybe I didn’t want to tell you guys who I was talking to.”
“Or maybe you’re hiding something.” Nancy said.
“Ladies, take your seats.” Mrs. Ortega instructed.
“We’ll find out eventually.” Britney said to her friends. “Don’t worry about it.”
Ugh, I thought to myself as Nancy and Jasmine walked to their seats. Annoying as f**k. However, I wanted to know who it was that was spreading that rumor. Sukuna put his arm around me and chuckled.
“Don’t worry.” He told me.
But, I couldn’t just let it go. I needed to know who started that rumor. I shook my head and sighed.
“I can’t.” I told him. “That s**t bothers me.”
“It shouldn’t.”
“I know, but it does. People always think of me as f*****g nerd or a weirdo and I hate that. I can’t have a f*****g boyfriend for once?”
I got up and grabbed my bag. I walked to the exit door.
“Rhoyda, class isn’t over yet!” Mrs. Ortega shouted.
I didn’t care. Her noticing me just made me runaway as fast as I could. Before I could even leave the damn school, someone grabbed me from behind. I stopped and turned, looking at Sukuna.
“So, you’re just going to leave?” He asked me.
“You don’t know how I feel.” I told him.
“Why are you letting these petty ass rumors bother you? They’re just from people who are f*****g jealous!”
I folded my arms and looked down at my feet. I could feel tears running down my eyes. He sighed before he lifted my head up, making me look at him. His thumb was used to wipe the tears from my eyes.
“I have to leave in a few, but…” He sighed. “Would you like to accompany me to some of my businesses?”
“Really?” I asked him.
“Yes.”
“Can it just be you and me?”
He smiled and nodded.
“Of course, baby.”
He wrapped his arm around me and we both headed out. I couldn’t wait to see what he was doing to be that rich in his young years.
