Instead of answering, Zarek pulled her to him, his free hand settling on her waist, holding her firmly. Her breathing hitched at his sudden action, but she was fast to recover since the man reached for the hem of her veil, as if his main goal for that night was to see her face. Before he could go further, though, she was fast to get in the way. She grabbed his hand and pushed it down, putting the veil back in place. “I cannot be seen until the deed is done,” she said, holding onto the rule even when she had already broken the most important one.
