“Baby, you should fire your guards here. I already told them that I’m your girlfriend, but they still didn’t let me in! The audacity of those lowly guards!” she said, nag iinarte na naman siya. If Monique always maintains elegance in every situation, even when insulting someone, she wouldn't shout. Eunice is the opposite. She will scream when she's annoyed, which is why every time the two fights, Eunice always loses. Bakit ba ako pumatol sa dalawang yun?
“Eunice, those gu— “
“Where’s the baby?” gusto ko na lang lumipad pabalik ng Pampanga; hearing her demanding voice makes me want to leave.
“Baby, those guards are just doing their job. They didn’t know you were coming, kaya hindi ka pinapasok” mahinahong sabi ko.
“In short they don’t know that you’re Duke’s girlfriend” I glared in the direction of my half-brother.
“Why?! Everyone should know that I’m your girlfriend. Hiwalay naman na kayo ni Monique wala na akong kaagaw sayo” I closed my eyes at the shrillness of her voice and pulled her to sit down. I’m going to be on the front-page news again because of this.
“We already talked about this. Don’t make me repeat myself.”
“Why? Is it because of the new girl you were with at the charity event? Who is she, Duke Terrance Hart?” I hate demanding people. If Dad hadn’t reminded me to maintain my relationship with Eunice, I would have broken up with her already.
“That girl—”
“She’s someone special,” Connor interrupted, earning a glare from me. He shrugged when he saw my look.
“That’s what you said in the interview.”
“Special? How special? Special for business purposes or special in bed?” Special because she amuses me. Sometimes her answers are irritating, but they remind me, that in her eyes, I’m not that special. Just an ordinary businessman. I can be whoever I want when I'm with her. I don’t feel pressured to do things that I don’t want to.
I smiled to myself. 'Yeah right, because she’s the one being pressured to agree to my whims.'
“She’s nothing, you know how the press is. And that’s the only time I’ll take her to an event like that. It won’t happen again.” I sighed in relief when Eunice nodded her head.
“Excellent. Speaking of Monique, you did the right thing by breaking up with her. And because of that, I want to reward you, baby. Let’s go shopping; I’ll buy you clothes.”
“Baby, I have work.” There’s no way that I’ll join her in her shopping spree.
“Connor’s here.” she said, looking in the direction of my half-brother.
“Right, I’ll handle the event, kuya. You can go with Eunice.” Now I know the main reason hecame here and brought Eunice.
“No. Work is work. You know me. I’ll accompany you tomorrow but not today.” I leaned in closer as she was about to speak.
“Baby, you understand me, right?” She nodded as if hypnotized. I looked in Connor’s direction, and his eyebrows were furrowed. I smiled and left.
‘I should try that to Lili, baka sakaling hindi ko na kailangang lagi siyang pilitin’
Bored, I watched the people passing by in the mall. Eunice bought two new polo shirts for me, then, as always, proceeded to buy her own clothes. This is the fourth store we've visited. I hope she will buy something this time.
“Baby, look! Which color do you think suits me best?” My gaze shifted between the two dresses; they were the same style, just different colors.
“You can just buy both of them,” I suggested, tumaas ang isang kilay nito.
“I don’t like to wear the same dress twice. What would people think of me?” she said, frowning.
“Then just buy one.”
“That’s why I’m asking you which color you prefer.”
“The blue one,” I said, giving in. She looked at the blue dress, still frowning.
“But I think I like the red one more.” Damn!
“Then buy the red one.”
“You’re right, excellent choice, baby.” f**k! I will never go shopping with Eunice again. This gives me more of a headache than our business does.
After shopping at one of her favorite stores, Eunice went to a well-known store to buy heels.
“Baby, what do you think of these two?” My gaze shifted between the two pairs of heels; they were the same size but had different designs.
“The red one suits you better,” I said. She looked at the red heels and then handed them to me.
“Put them on me, baby,” she said. I took a deep breath and knelt, helping her put on the heels. She stood up once they were on.
“Hmmm, I’ll try the black ones too,” she said, sitting down again and handing me the black heels. I quickly put them on her. She walked around in front of the mirror, seemingly deep in thought.
“You should buy both if you want,” I suggested.
“But I’m not comfortable with them; something is off.” she said, frowning.
“Then try the other heels?”
“But I like this design.” she insisted. Nauubos ang pasensya ko ngayon sa kaniya.
“Then buy those two” I said. She raised an eyebrow and snapped at me.
“Are you not listening to me, baby? I’m not comfortable with them!” Damn!
“What do you want me to do?” Hindi makapaniwalang tanong ko sa kaniya. She bit her lower lip.
“Are you angry at me?” she asked. I calmed myself.
“No, I’m just frustrated because I can’t help you with your problem,” I said. ‘Petty problem!’
“Maybe the size doesn’t fit you.” she paused, then smiled.
“Right, the heels are too small. Wait here, I’m going to call the sales lady.” I slumped into the chair, exhausted. f**k this day!
‘I will never go back in Cebu!’
After leaving the store, someone called Eunice's phone. She stopped and answered the call.
“Hello!”
I couldn't hear what they were talking about, and I didn’t want to know. I just wanted this ordeal to be over. After a few minutes, she looked at me.
“Baby, my friend called me. They invited me to go shopping. Do you want to come?” I quickly shook my head. No way!
“That’s a girls’ date. I want you to enjoy your day with them. I understand, don’t worry.” I said. She smiled sweetly at me and kissed my cheek.
“So understanding. Call me when you get home, okay?” I nodded and escorted her to the spa she and her friends often visited. Once she went inside, I was overjoyed. Damn! I thought I was going to die from her antics.
I quickly made my way to my car and drove fast. What a traumatizing experience.
Huminto ang sasakyan ko sa stop light, As I watched my surroundings, a small café caught my attention. Now, I kinda miss my love so sweet Lili.
Tsk! What’s wrong with her?
Muli akong nagdial.
Ring!
Ring!
Ring!
“Bakit?!” tiningnan ko ang phone if tama ba ang natawagan ko.
“Why are you mad?” wala pa nga akong ginagawa.
“Paanong hindi ako magagalit sayo sir? Pinaalis ako ng prof ko dahil nagriring yung phone ko!” inis na sabi nito sa akin.
“Bakit hindi ka nagsisilent ng phone during class?”
“Kasi po wala naman talagang tumatawag sa akin kaya kahit hindi nakasilent phone ko walang problema, isa pa diba sabi mo dika mangungulit?” I smile crept into my face; I miss her annoying answers.
“Sabi ko hindi kita kukulitin sa school,sa bar at sa café. I never said hindi kita kukulitin sa call” natatawang sabi ko sa kaniya, a very wise move indeed.
“Ahh ganun, 4 na araw pa na hindi kita makikita”
“Why? Do you want to see me that much? Pwede naman”
“Hindi. Ibig sabihin nun 4 days kitang pwedeng iblock”
“Hey! That’s foul! Don—”
“Bye sir! Tawag ka na lang ulit after 4 days or maybe not”
Toot!
Toot!
Toot!
“Damn!” I cursed, muli akong tumawag sa number niya.
Ring!
Ring!
Mukha namang hindi niya ako blin—
“The number you have dia—” I quickly hung up the call.
Damn!
Humanda ka sa akin after 4 days.
