Elijah
“You fūcking dog!” My beta, James, said as he slapped my shoulder and hugged my neck while we walked out of the bar.
I became alpha of the White Forest Pack when I turned eighteen. My father had been training me since I could walk! It was only natural to hand me the pack as soon as he possibly could. My first order of business was to make James my beta. We have known each other since before anyone of us could talk, so it was natural to make him my beta. I was glad that when he found his mate, he didn't get to leave me.
This week is my first week back from Alpha University. Although I had been an alpha since I was eighteen, I wanted to know more and become a better Alpha for my pack, so I decided to go to Alpha University to prepare.
Therefore, this would be the first annual meeting I went to. I remember my dad hated them, as you could feel how fake people were. My mom, on the other hand, loved the attention she got when she went; she always dressed to impress.
We don’t tend to mess with the she-wolves from our pack because of the drama. So we would come to a tiny human town south of our border, about an hour away. We liked to go here because the human women there were beautiful, and the place was decent enough to take the women to a cheap motel around the corner from the bar and fūck them all night, and two, it’s on neutral grounds.
I didn’t care about finding my mate. That was a battle my wolf, Arlo, would not win. Since I told him I would reject the moon goddess’s wishes for a mate, he only comes out when I am in bed with a she-wolf. I was already twenty-five, and she was nowhere to be found. Therefore, I would reject her if she came strolling down the hall. I had a girlfriend in high school that I loved with all of my heart. The minute she turned twenty, she knew I was not her mate and broke off our relationship. Thanks to her, I don’t want my mate.
“That’s exactly why I mess with the humans out here instead of the she-wolves in the pack. Can you imagine the DRAMA I would be in if she was a she-wolf from our pack?” I asked him as I shivered. Just thinking about it gave me the heebie-jeebies.
We were enjoying our night in the local bar when Jasmine strolled in. I was facing the bar when I felt her snaking her arms around my waist.
“This is exactly what you get when you make us sleep around.” Arlo said, making me push him back in my mind.
“Jasmine.” I said between clenched teeth as I unclasped her hands from my waist.
“I’ve missed you.” She purred in my ear.
I stood up from the stool I was sitting on and turned around to face her. I towered over her at six feet five inches. I bent down as I grabbed her by the arms and whispered in her ear. “You were only a one-time fūck, don’t flatter yourself.” I let go of her arms rather harshly, making her stumble back.
“You will regret this.” She yelled as James and I left the bar.
“You got to tell me how good she was! I might go back and fūck her for myself!” James said, making me shake my head.
“Let’s get back to the pack house. You know the drive is long.” I told him as we walked over to my White Range Rover. I opened the driver’s door and slid in, shaking my head just thinking about Jasmine. I pushed the button to turn on the car, making the car’s engine rev up.
“You ready for the weekend?” James asked as he put his seatbelt on, and I placed the car in reverse.
“I am. I can’t wait to get this weekend over with so we can come back and work on our pack.” I replied, making him nod in agreement.
“You know, this is the last year you might find her. What if you find her this weekend?” He asked as he turned to face me, leaning on the door.
“Yeah, I want to know too.” Arlo chimed in.
“No one invited you to this conversation.” I told him, pushing him to the back of my mind.
“I won’t let you reject our mate.” Arlo replied, just as I shoved him back into my mind.
“You very well know that I decided to reject her.” I told James as I gripped the steering wheel tighter, turning my knuckles white.
“What does Arlo say about it?” He asked, making me glare at him.
“He said he would not let me reject her.” I replied, turning back to face the street. One hour passed as we discussed the if’s of me finding my mate this weekend.
“What if you find yours?” I asked him, turning the tables around.
“You know I respect the moon goddess. She does not play. I will accept my mate, no questions asked.” He replied, making me shake my head.
“Well, I am happy for you. Hopefully, you find her so you can get off my case about my mate.” I told him as I placed the SUV into park. I turned off the car and opened the door, getting out of the SUV.
We walked side by side in complete silence up the marble steps that led to the inside of the main pack house. At the moment, the only ones that shared this house were the alpha and its family, the beta and his family, and the gamma and his family. Once I pushed open the front door, I saw my mother descending the winding stairs.
“Mother.” I said, walking toward her and, bringing her in for a hug.
“Alpha.” She replied, cupping my cheek.
“Why are you up so late?” I asked her, furrowing my brows.
“Oh, nothing. I just had a crazy dream and woke up wanting some water.” She replied, avoiding my eyes. “How is Arlo feeling?” She asked as she pulled out of my grasp and turned to walk to the kitchen.
Why is she asking me about my mutt? She never does. I walked behind her wanting to know what she was talking about. My mother was weird, you could say. Sometimes she would have these dreams that were spot on to what would happen, while other times, it could just be an ordinary dream she had. I paid little to no attention most of the time.
“I am not sure. I have been pushing him to the back of my mind.” I replied as I shrugged my shoulders. She turned around, glaring at me.
“Elijah Woodland! I want to talk to Arlo right now!” She yelled, making me roll my eyes at her, which was not a good idea. She walked up to me and smacked me upside my head.
“Arlo, come out.” She demanded, making my eyes turn a deep shade of brown, and some of Arlo’s dark brown fur came out from my arms.
“How are you feeling?” She asked Arlo.
“Besides the fact that my human counterpart is an idīot and wants to reject our mate, I feel a bit antsy. Like if something big was going to happen.” He replied to her.
“Wait, what? Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked him, but the little fūcker pushed me back to the back of my mind.
“Are you going to let him reject her?” My mother asked him, making Arlo scoff.
“Hell the fūck no!” he exclaimed, making my mother raise a brow at him.
“You may be his wolf counterpart, but you are still my pup. So watch your mouth, young man.” She replied, making me laugh inside of my mind. I hated giving Arlo power like this because it would always make me dizzy. We get stuck between shifting and staying in our human form, but my mother gave me no choice. When she demands something, you just do it.
“Let Elijah come back.” My mother instructed Arlo.
He nodded as I pushed myself forward and pushed his asš back. My mother had her arms folded across her chest as she tapped her foot on the floor. This woman, although she is tiny, makes everyone afraid of her. She will grab anything that is around and smack you with it. I know now that I am so fūcked.
“You need to be in sync with your wolf, Elijah. That will make you a better Alpha; if not, you will go crazy. You need to trust him and trust the moon goddess.” She said as she turned around and left me alone in the kitchen to my thoughts.
What the fūck was that all about? Why didn't Elijah tell me anything?
This damn alpha meeting was already becoming a pain in my asš, and we hadn’t even left the pack house.
