let the war begin

Taylor’s POV   As I sat at my desk, I had a distinct impression that someone was watching me. Without lifting my head, I merely moved my eyes to check who that person was, and it was the new Italian guy. He sat next to Riley and even inquired about my whereabouts. That is incredibly impolite! I mean, I can hear him from a mile away!   I simply rolled my eyes and focused on what my professor was saying. To be honest, I became bored because his lessons were so simple to me. I don't want to brag, but I can't help but think I'm a genius, and his class is a bore. After that, I had to go to the library.   It is already noon and I don’t usually eat my lunch. I’m not in the mood plus I’m still full because Trevor brought me to breakfast at my dorm earlier. I automatically went to the library to find something but luck’s not on my side today. I walked down the hallway when I saw the new guy stands in front of my shrine. Yep, my shrine since all the certificates, medals, and trophies are under my name. So it’s mine.   I don’t like being in the competition, I only do it because I love winning. I don’t want to lose plus, it is a great advantage to me because if you’re at the top, you get your own dorm room. You don’t have to share it with anyone.  I was about to walk past behind him when I heard him mention my name, so I stood there to find out what’s the catch.   “Is there something wrong?” I spat.   He looked behind and he was startled when he saw me. He doesn’t say a word. I raised my brow hoping he would get the idea that I am waiting for his answer.   “Uhm, no. I am just amazed that this Taylor Lockwood is really an achiever.” He responded. I replied to him and talk bad s**t about myself if he fell for it but he doesn’t. He seems friendly and sociable, which people I don’t like.   I gave a small laugh and was about to leave when he called me again asking for my… name?   What? So, he doesn’t know my name? Maybe Riley didn’t tell him. Minutes later, someone approach me and it is Trevor. Trevor is my only friend in this school because he is the second well-known genius after me. I don’t make friends with random people except him. Well, if you cross out being a smarty-pants, I will always be friends will Trevor because he is my only childhood friend. He is always there since day one.   Trevor asked me if I could help him with his studies for him to catch up on the lessons and I agreed. Sometimes, when his roommate is not around, I usually go to him and spend the night. When I got bored in my room, Trevor also come and do the same.   The Italian guy automatically introduces himself to Trevor.   “You’re Taylor Lockwood, right?” he asked.   With those words, I was shocked when he said that. He thought that Trevor is me? What in the world? Where did he get those ideas from?   “I’m not Taylor Lockwood. My name is Trevor, okay? The Taylor Lockwood that you’re talking about is him.” Trevor pointed at me. The new guy’s eyes were wide in shock when he realized his stupidity and embarrassment. He was talking about someone with me but turns out that the subject of his topic is already on his side.   I just rolled my eyes and walked away. I heard Trevor saying 'nice meeting you' to the boy and followed me. Since both of us don’t have class right now, I decided to spend our time at the nearest café to study more. An hour passed, Trevor needs to attend his class while I, I have a vacant this whole afternoon so I decided to stay at the cafe before going back to my dorm. I need sleep anyway.   As time went by, I was walking to my dorm building and entered the elevator, and press the button which my room is. I walked to the hallway and arrived at my front door. I opened my door and I did not expect what I saw in the living room.   There was luggage in the room and I check whose name tag was on it.   Chase Giovanni Faulkner +39 XXX XXXXXX Via Gesù, XX, XXXXX Milano MI, Italy   Italy… wait don’t tell me that this luggage belongs to that new guy?! What the hell. What is he doing here? This is not going to happen. He is not staying here! I immediately get my phone in my pocket and dialed my uncle’s number. When he accepts my call, I instantly blab about why this new kid’s luggage is in my room.   “You can’t do that!” I yelled. I heard him responds on the other line, ‘I can. I have something to do right now.’ And ended the call. With that, I heard footsteps from the entrance door. I looked back and saw that Chase is standing there looking so clueless and a little bit shock. What? Shocked because I am your roommate?   I suddenly grab him and went out of the room. I was pulling him directly to the director’s office to protest and again, luck is not my side. I got yelled at by my uncle instead. This is the worst. For the first time in my life, I got defeated. I stumped back to my room leaving Chase behind.   After the scene earlier, I grab my textbook, papers, and pens for me to teach Trevor since I told him that I will do it. This is so embarrassing. The top boy in the class got yelled at in front of the new kid. I heard him open the door and entered but stop in the middle and watched him stared at what I am doing.   “Don’t you just stand there? Get out of my way.” I spat which he move sideways for me to get out of this room.   I will just spend the night at Trevor’s.   I went to Trevor's room and knocked on his door. I frequently barge into his dorm room when I want to pay him a visit, especially if his roommate isn't there. Kyle, his roommate, is always hooking up and getting out of the dorm when he wants to get laid, and I don't mind. He isn't around at this time, as far as I can tell.   Trevor opened the door, and I assume he'd just gotten out of a hot shower. His towel is still wrapped around his waist, and water is dripping from his hair. I walked into his room and leaped into his bed, staring at the ceiling as he put on his pajamas.   “Bad day?” he asked. After he finished his routine, he walked towards me and lay down beside me.   “You don’t want to know.”   “I heard the Italian guy is your new roommate?” he stared at me waiting for my answer. I looked him in the eyes and response nothing.   “Chase is nice. You should give it a shot.” He said.   I'm not sure why Trevor actually liked him, but he's on my no-go list. Trevor is a pleasant individual who wishes to befriend everyone. He conversed with others as well, yet he just spends time with me. It's a shame we weren't able to become roommates. It is school protocol that if you are in the top ten percent of your class, you are given your own room for a year, not until Chase arrives.   “Do you want to watch movies?” he asks.   Yes, we have a flat-screen TV in our room but it didn’t have a wire cable. Basically, we just connected our laptops using HDMI to the TV so that it will be useful. Wi-Fi is free but other sites were banned. I know you get what I mean.   I only nodded to him and watch him walked away to his mini kitchen to grab some snacks and drinks while I start scrolling some movies to watch.   “Wait, didn't we say we were going to study? You have a lot of catching up to do.” I came to a halt and stared at him. He approached me with his hands full of food, placed them on the bed, and stared me down.   “Ignore it. I know it's been a long day for you, Tay, and I want you to take it easy.” He stated his case. “You know that I love you, right? I'll be here for you at all times.” He continued,   I gave him a friendly smile and returned my gaze to the tv screen. I know he loves me, and I consider myself quite fortunate. I adore my best buddy as well. While we were watching movies, I had no idea it was already 4 early morning and Trevor was leaning on me with his head above my shoulder. I looked down at Trevor who is peacefully sleeping and I tilted my head to lean on his. I still have two hours to take a nap before I prepare myself for school.   I felt that Trevor is shaking my shoulder to wake up. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at my surrounding. He is already up and drying his wet hair. I fell asleep and I am now laying down in his bed.   “Sorry to wake you up but school’s starting now.” He said.   I nodded and jumped out the bed. I fixed my hair and grabs the textbooks that I brought yesterday. It is already 6:30 in the morning.   “You know you can take a shower in here.” He offered.   “No, it’s fine. Besides, I don’t have my uniform here. I’ll see you later.”   As I moved to the door, he gave me a slow nod. I shut the door behind me and began walking towards my room. I didn't knock expecting it to be locked, and I'm delighted it wasn't. Is he hoping that I will return yesterday night? Geez.   I entered the room as he turned in my way. He is currently in the mini kitchen while waiting for his coffee to brew while fixing the cuffs of his uniform. He gave me a small smile but I ignore it. I immediately run to the bathroom to prepare for school.   I didn't see him after I finished. Maybe he's already in class. It's almost eight o'clock in the morning, therefore it's time for us to enter the classroom. I'm always late, but no one notices because attendance isn't required. All you have to do is pass all of the tests and stay on top.   As always, class is really boring. All I did was staring at the window looking at the lonely empty field. I didn’t talk to someone since Trevor is busy taking down notes while listening because he needs to catch up. I don’t know what on earth he is doing these past few days why he got late. Good thing that he’s still at the second rank.   I took a look at Chase's seat and wished I had never done so. What exactly is his issue? This is creepy. I would never know he was staring at me if I didn't look in his direction.   Trevor and I went to the cafeteria after class to get some light snacks because I hadn't eaten breakfast yet. We decided not to eat in because it was really crowded and instead returned to our perspective room because we didn't have a class and it would be preferable to rest for a little.   Walking to the hall, Trevor waved his hand at me and we separated our ways. I opened the door, at last, no more annoying foreign boy.   “Hi.”   I was startled by the greeting that’s from the living area. What the heck is he doing here?   “What are you doing here? You still have class.” I snapped at him.   “Um, I earned a perfect score, and the professor said I'm also excused from the test.” Chase smiled softly.   What the.   This academy had a stipulation that if you had a perfect school, you would be free from all subsequent tests. Only Trevor and I in our class received a perfect score, while the others received 99 or possibly 98.   “What? Is it unbelievable that I got 100?” he asked. I only glared back at him and threw my bag in the floor and jumped in my bed. He watched my action and started to give a small grin.   What the hell is the grin for?! Is he trying to get in my way now?   Chase Giovanni, you started this and I will finish it for you.
