Any chance of a future with Lucas just went out the window. She never felt so disappointed as she did at that moment. As she sat across from him, she could see the contempt in his eyes. She couldn’t give him what he wanted, and he had clearly given up on them. She wished she could let him go but she just couldn’t he was too critical to her case. She couldn’t bring it all together without him. It wasn’t her that both men were dealing with. It was Lucas that they trusted and if he wasn’t there Friday night, it could queer the whole deal and the last two years would have been for nothing. But when it was over, she would let him go… no matter how hard it was. He deserved more than she could give him. He deserved a woman that could be with him openly without all the lies and pretense.
