Chapter 3

Lucas drove in silence, but wanted a way to calm his crying mate. He could feel her sadness threw the link, but had no idea what to do to soothe her. "Are you hungry?" He asked. She nodded and laid her head on his shoulder. Memories of this morning played in his mind though he knew they should wait. He had been so close to making Luna his. What had he been thinking? So soon? He wondered if he should wait. "What are you thinking about?" Luna asked, eyes still teary. "This morning." Lucas took her hand closest to him. "Are we going to...uh, mate soon?" She asked hesitantly, a blush covering her face. "If you want to wait we can." Lucas said reassuringly. "And if I don't want to wait?" Her blush deepened. "Luna, we can mate whenever you want. Only if you want to. And only if you're ready." "Now?" She was joking. "I would not mate with you for the first time in a car." Lucas laughed easily. She nodded before she sucked in a breath at the sight of the mansion that the pack lived in. There were cottage-houses scattered around the area. They were for some people who were mated and wanted more privacy. Lucas looked around. Home. Luna stared in wonder at the gigantic mansion. It looked more like a castle. "Lucas, who is this runt?" A large, young man asked. "She's not a runt. She's the Apollo Alpha's daughter." "Well, what is she doing here?" Another man asked rudely. "Luna is my mate." The pack gasped and congratulated their Alpha as they looked at their new Luna. "Her name is Luna? Luna Luna." A girl laughed. "How old is she?" Questions were shouted. "Fifteen." Lucas said. Luna peeked out from behind Lucas, cheeks burning. "Luna, I'll show you to our room. And then we'll unpack your stuff and get you settled." Luna nodded. I guess this is my new home, she thought. She followed Lucas to the house. Her thoughts ran wild as she followed Lucas up several flights of stairs. After a minute of walking, they entered a very large room. "Are you okay with us sharing a room?" Lucas asked. Luna nodded, too busy to speak as she took in the room. It was medieval. The walls were made of dark wood, the floors cherry-ish wood. (So if you have Netflix and like scary movies, look up The Haunting. It has Liam Neeson in it. Anyway, the house is exactly the same as it is in this book) There was a canopy bed, with red blankets folded at the very bottom of the bed, revealing the white sheets. There was a large wardrobe next to a door. She opened it and saw a beautiful bathroom. She smiled, taking in the room. "Wow. Um...where do I sleep?" She asked. She'd never had to share a room with anyone before. Would they share a room? A bed? "With me." She blushed, turning to him, before he realized the double meaning in his words. "I mean in the bed." She blushed even more. "I get what you mean." She said quietly. "Whew." He sighed. "Yeah." She whipered, running her hand over the red blankets at the foot of the bed. There was a vanity mirror in the corner and a small chandelier above it. There was a large painting of a beautiful woman next to a man. Then, there was a young boy with black hair and rosy cheeks. Lucas. The people must be his parents. She realized another thing. The woman was small. Not small enough to be a runt, but still small. Luna looked at the bed again. There were so many pillows. The bottom four were white, but the others that added onto the bed were red. A large gothic chandelier hung above the bed, swinging ever so slightly. There were french doors, leading to a balcony. The doors were shaded with long curtains that were the color of fog. She looked to Lucas who watched her with a worried smile. "Do you like it?" He asked. "It's perfect." She said as she raked a hand through her hair. "There's a garden that you'll love." Lucas said as he took her hand. The feeling sent tingles through her. He led her down a long hallway. There were statues, each one creepier than the next. "Sorry if any of this is creeping you out. The house hasn't been changed since my great grandfather left it to my dad who gave it to me when he retired. " Lucas said, voice echoing in the hallway. "Oh." Eventually, they walked down a tunnel like hall before coming into an open room. The walls were windows and flowers scented the air. She recognized the scent of violets and their old meaning. "Did someone die here?" It was traditional for packs to put violets in a place of someone's death. And wolfsbane to keep the spirits of the wolves away. "A few actually. When I was little, rogues attacked and killed my grandfather and great grandfather. My father barely lived." Lucas said sadly. Luna nodded and squeezed his hand gently. He turned to her and lifted her so she was near his height. "My parents live not too far from here...If you want to meet them." Lucas said. "You want me to meet your parents?" She asked, surprised. "You are my mate. I'd like them to meet you before we marry." She blushed, legs still dangling in the air as he held her. She was barely 5'2 and 90 pounds. You were considered a runt if you were under 5'0 by the age of fifteen. Most wolves were tall. Lucas had to be around 6'3. Luna's mother was 5'9 and her father was 6'5. Everyone made Luna feel tiny. "Marry?" It was very uncommon for wolves to marry. "In most packs, the alpha's or royals marry their mates. Your pack...is odd." "My pack is not odd." She defended. "Yours is the only one of the 300 in the world that doesn't allow the royals to marry." "So..." She tossed him a glare. "Luna...I don't mean anything bad against your pack. I'm just saying that your pack is different." He explained. She nodded and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Fine." She kissed his nose and smiled. He pecked her lips and set her down. She walked to the black spiral stairs and inhaled the violets. "What's your favorite flower?" Lucas asked. "Roses and violets." She looked over the cold black metal banister and saw Lucas picking violets and roses. She smiled and leaned further to get a better view of Lucas. "Be careful, Luna." Lucas said protectively. "Of course, Luke." She said, trying out the nickname. She walked to the stairs and desended before Lucas handed her a bouquet of roses and violets. "For my beautiful Luna. What made your parents name you Luna?" He asked, bring Luna into her arms once again. Her face barely reached his chest. "My mother used to tell me that she named me Luna because she always knew that I would be a Luna. Until they realized how small I'd be. My father said if I was a boy, they'd have named me Apollo or even Alpha. My middle name is Apollo." "What's wrong with you being small?" "No one likes me. No one, but you." "Your parents?" He asked her. A sad smile played on her lips. "I'm not sure. They were strict. I never got a lot of attention from them. They treated me good, but sometimes I think it was for show. Everyone loves a caring, but strong Alpha and Luna." She said, hearing the sadness in her own voice. "Your parents love you." He said. Maybe, maybe not. Luna never really undrstood her parents. Just as no one really understood her. Except Lucas, that is. "I guess." She sighed, inhaling his musk. "Even if they don't...I love you. And I always will." "I love you too." He lifted her up and kissed her. She knew she was light, but it amazed her that he could lift her so easily. As they kissed, a thought ran through her mind. She'd found her home. The only one she'd ever need. The only one she'd ever want. With Lucas, she was home. Lucas was her home.
