Brook sat in her car drivingherself home, the radio turned up, butshe was not listening to the music. Her mind was on Dawson. She had been allexcited to go in to the city and see him that morning, but when she stood therein his office listening to him talk about saving his skin and thinking aboutthe extraordinary lengths they would have to go to just to have a few momentstogether she knew it was not meant to be. Walking out thedoor had proven harder than Brook had thought. Her heart ached as she turnedher back to Dawson and left. She was not sure what hurt more, the leaving orthe fact that Dawson just let her go. It was probably for the best. She hadbecome far too attached to Dawson. Thoughfar too much about him. They spent such little time together and still he hadaffected her so deeply.
