Second and Not a Boy
Footsteps padded along the cold concrete floor, racing toward the opened window. The wing beats of a dragon could be heard, circling around the Red Keep. A girl, no more than four name days, climbed to stand on top of the windowsill to get a better look. The wanted to watch her sister and her sister's dragon fly back to King's Landing, and pray that one day that she would have a dragon of her own. "You lost your Nanny?" A male voice called from behind? The girl looked back. "Nannies aren't fun. They try to be fun. But that's because they're afraid of Mother and Father." The man scoffed. "You're too smart to be three you know." "I'm four!" The girl turned around to look at her uncle, Daemon Targaryen. Daemon crossed his arms and smirked. "I missed your last name day huh?" She narrowed her eyes. "I'm mad at you Uncle Daemon." Daemon Targaryen couldn't help but laugh at his niece, before mockingly dropping to his knees. "Jesscareya Targaryen, First of her name, Princess of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Relam, I do offer my sincerest apology." Jessica, as she was known throughout King's Landing, looked at her Uncle in turn before jumping and tackling him to the ground, all the while pealing with laughter. Daemon scooped her up in his arms, holding her close; his forehead pressed to hers. "How I've missed home." Daemon murmured, almost to himself. He shifted Jessica so that she was sitting atop his shoulders. And once did he make sure she was secure, did he set off. She almost thought that Daemon was going to take her to her Mother or Father, but he did not. He walked her down and through the doors of the Iron Throne. There were more swords than Jessica could dare count, it was large and vastly intimidating. "Why here?" Jessica looked down, reverting to the mother tongue of High Valyrian. "To see your father." Daemon answer. Jessica looked down at him as he ascended the steps to the Iron Throne. "He's in a meeting." Daemon smiled and gently placed his niece upon the trone. It was cold and stiff to Jessica and deadly if she sat the wrong way. "I do have a gift for you." Daemon smiled and sat down the satchel that he was carrying. "Close your eyes Princess." Jessica did tightly as Daemon sat something warm into her arms. "Ok. Open." He whispered. Jessica did and almost screamed in excitement as Daemon gently shushed her. Resting gently in her arms was a dragon's egg. It was large almost the length of her torso. It was deep blue. Jessica thought that it was black at first, but when she turned it in her arms she saw the shimmer of blues and purples. "I...it's....thank you." Jessica beamed up at Daemon. "Anything for my niece. Remember, it needs to be warm. Keep it safe with you at all times so you and your dragon may bond." Jessica went to open her mouth when the door opened. "Gods be good!" Ser Harrold came to a sudden halt. Rhaenyra smiled "Its alright." She dismissed Ser Harrold with a wave of her hand. "Father will be furious." Rhaenyra nodded toward the egg. Daemon scoffed. "She should've had an egg in the crib. It's her birthright." "There wasn't a clutch when Jessie was born, and Mother wouldn't hear of it. Said something about her frailty." "Well Vhagar had a clutch." Daemon shrugged. Rhaenyra c****d her head. "How many?" "You're looking at it." Rhaenyra sighed. "Jessie, go show Father. He's going to be so excited." Jessica smiled and raced off to find her Mother and Father. As expected, she found her father, King Viserys I, and her mother Aemma Arryn in her mother's apartments. Her mother was rising out of the bath and a robe draped around her lovingly by Viserys. "Momma and Visenya." Jessica beamed at her parents. "Now she has Jessica on board as...." Aemma fell silent. After a moment of gapping, she managed one single word. "Dragon." "Drag - That's a dragon egg." Viserys blinked. Jessica beamed as Viserys scooped her up. "It was a name day gift from Uncle Daemon." "Oh was it now." Viserys beamed. And then Aemma cleared her throat. "Uh um where is he darling?" "Talking to Nyra in the throne room." Viserys nodded, handing Jessica and the egg off to Aemma and rushed out of the room. Aemma gently held her daughter close, settling her on top of her ever growing belly. "Soon you will have a new brother or sister." Aemma gently swayed back and forth. "One I hope can stay and play." Jessica rested her chin on her egg. "I hope so too love." Aemma kissed her forehead. Jessica beamed up at Aemma. "I named her Starfyre." "Are you sure you have a girl? What if that dragon turns out to be a boy?" Jessica pursed her lips and thought for a moment. "Thordak." She finally answered. Aemma gave a nod. "Good names for a good dragon." Leading up to the tournament for the newest royal, Jessica was never seen without the dragon egg. It was an inseparable pair. Jessica had even grown and matured. She moved into her own nursery and out of her mother's room. Though this saddened Aemma, she'd never let Jessica see. When Aemma began her labors, Jessica was pacing outside her door. If she could just let her mother hold onto the dragon egg, Jessica was sure it would've helped. When Jessica had enough, she ran out to the tourney grounds. She just had to go get her Father. Jessica climbed the stairs to the viewing box, dragon egg clutched tightly. Everyone was focused on the jousting in front of them. She just had to look for the biggest chair. That would be where her father sat. She was stopped not two steps in. "Shouldn't you be in the castle, Little One?" Jessica looked up at her Father's Hand, Ser Otto Hightower. Jessica gave Otto a cold stare, not so unlike the ones she'd seen on Rhaenyra's face. "I'm here to see Father." Otto gave a complacent smile. "He's busy Little One, let's reunite you with your Nanny." Without missing beat and being brutally honest, "I wasn't asking." Jessica walked around Otto and climbed into her Father's lap. Viserys looked down at her. "Why aren't you inside?" Jessica pouted and laid her head on her fathers chest. "The Maesters won't let me see Momma. And I wanted to let her hold my egg so she would feel better." "Oh sweet girl, they are doing their best. And we'll all see her soon." Viserys tried to soothe her. Jessica stayed cuddled against her father for sometime, until a messenger whispered into his ear. Viserys stood and handed Jessica off to her Aunt, the Princess Rhaenys. Rhaenys gave her husband, Corlys Velaryon, a look. "Its -" Corlys began but was shushed by his wife as Rhaenys nodded down at Jessica. Corlys looked down, and patted his niece's head. The tournament overall was standard, except for Daemon trying to kill Ser Criston Cole after the knight defeated him in the joust. Rhaenys carried Jessica back to the castle. She raced off once she was sat down, raced off to see her mother and new baby. She came to a halt when she saw her Father stumbling out of the room. He looked down at her. "Jesscareya...my sweet girl..."
