PAUL’S POV
I was still staring at Layla's unconscious body, she was still asleep and there were many devices attached to her body. It is also wearing a metal brace on the body and a neck brace. My tears keep falling but I have to be strong for her. Her parents have been contacting the police about what happened but the police could not provide anything because the place where the tragedy happened did not have cctv so it was difficult to find evidence.
*Door’s open*
"I heard the news. Sorry." A female detective suddenly said, her name was Jackie.
"Tsk, it's funny, even the reporters are gossipy." I said, and we both looked at Layla's body.
"What else can they do? That's their job. Find news." She said, and the surroundings became silent.
"Do you think it's connected to the suicidal students?" she asked.
"I don't know. Right now I don't know because my brain is still messed up because of what happened to my girlfriend." I told her and she nodded.
I looked at her and her face was serious.
"You, do you think all this has something to do with suicides? Did your partner also have an accident?" I said and she looked at me seriously. She paused for a few seconds before answering and looked at Layla again.
"Yes, it has something to do with suicides." She said to me and I suddenly remembered what Layla said to me on the cellphone.
"Layla said that maybe the students did not commit suicide. She mentioned that you have no other clues such as suicidal notes or anything that the students have that could indicate that they committed suicide. All you get are messages that there is a threat, even the email we received until now there is still no news." I told her and she grinned.
"You thought our job would be easy, especially since I'm the one who's taking care of it. I still need to get to Ollins' side because he might be the key to catching the suspect." She said, and I looked at her.
"What's wrong and you're looking at me?" She asked and looked at me.
"Did Kai have anything to do with this?" I asked and she smiled.
"Good question, but in a different description, you should say 'Kai is the reason.'" My eyes widened at what she said.
"What? Is Kai the reason why this is happening? Why? How?" I asked her and she just looked at me.
"I can't answer that yet because the evidence is still lacking, but all I can tell you is to stay away from Kai as much as possible. Kai doesn't know what's going on." She said and left the room.
From the beginning, Layla seemed to know something, but I didn't listen to her. I even pushed Kai away without listening to his point. I walked left and right because my brain was really messed up. Kai had nothing to do with it but he was the reason? What does that even mean?
.
While I was still thinking about what to do, I was surprised by someone holding my hand tightly. When I looked, Layla had woken up and was staring at me intently as if she wanted to say something but she couldn't speak.
"Calm down babe." I said, but her grip on me got tighter, as if her fingernails were sinking into my skin, so I pulled myself out of her grip because it was too tight.
*moaning in pain*
"Ouch!" I said as I struggled, but she tightened her grip on me until my hand started to bleed. It was still staring at me intently and I felt scared and I saw the red button at the top of her bed so I immediately pressed it and Layla's room rang and her doctors and parents came in, then she released me.
She was still staring at me while moaning as if she wanted to say something and she was trying to tell me something, but the nurses pushed me outside until I couldn't hear her pain anymore.
Layla's parents also went out and we were left outside. Uncle, Layla's father, came to me and shouted at me.
"You! It's your fault. Why is this happening to my daughter!" He blamed me but I didn't retaliate or answer him. Aunt took him away and let him go. Aunt asked for dispensation but I just shook my head. I looked in the mirror on the door and I was still surprised because Layla was still looking at me and suddenly she became hysterical and her doctors were weaning her.
I saw that Layla had been injected with a sedative and she fell asleep again. I wanted to go in but the first to go in were her parents. Before I could go in, Layla's mom blocked me.
"Please aunty, I just want to talk to her." I said and there was sadness on her face and she shook her head.
"I'm sorry, it's better if you go home first or my husband will be angry with you." She said and closed Layla's room.
I can't do anything, I feel worthless. I couldn't get close to Layla but I felt she was really going to say something, but I shook her but I didn't want her to worry because her life is still dangerous. I couldn't think of anything to do, so I just sat down and leaned back. After a while, I felt someone standing next to me. It's Jackie. She handed me coffee and I accepted it.
"Good day Ms. Jackie." The police greeted her.
"Ugh, I feel like I'm useless, I can't do anything, it seemed like Layla wanted to say something but I didn't listen to her again." I said and she looked at the wound I got on Layla's nail.
"Could she have done that?" She asked me but I ignored her.
"Please, if you know anything that I can do, I will." I was begging Jackie.
"Don't interfere with what we're doing. We're doing our part as detectives. You don't need to lead us. If you really want to help, that's why you should go home and rest. First follow my instructions now, visit your girlfriend and you're done." She drank coffee at the same time. What a b*tchy a*s detective.
"I'm not asking for your salary in exchange for my help. I just really want this to be over and whoever is doing it," I told her. She patted my shoulder.
"So follow my advice first, stay away from Kai."She said and I looked at her.
"Why? I mean for what? You also said that Kai has nothing to do with this but he is the reason why this is happening, but why? What is the reason? Why doesn't Kai know about this? Because look ah detective, Kai is our friend, even Layla's best friend, do you think everything can be solved if we just avoid Kai?" I asked and she just looked at me coldly.
"I'll just take back what you said. Kai is your friend and, yes, I know that, but when you find out the reason you know what will come out? You will avoid him too." it said, and I was surprised.
"So what?! What's the reason?" I asked, annoyed, and he shook his head.
"You want to know?Fine Mr. arrogant, well the suspect is really only targeting Kai and he's only sympathizing with you because he knows you're useless around Kai." he said and I stopped. What?
"He's just playing with us. He's only targeting Kai and no one else. That's why I'm asking you to stay away, not because Kai has anything to do with what's going on, but because it's Kai's own request that you stay away from him." She said and she stood up and turned her back on me.
"Kai is suffering now that he is alone but he still thinks about you. Who do you think is more selfish?" She said and walked away.
Kai..
