MR. OLLINS'S POV
I've been walking around this neighborhood looking for Kai. Margaret also reported to me that someone threw a stone at Kai's window. I immediately looked at it and luckily no one was hurt. Margaret and Kelly admitted to me that they were fighting over the thrown stone, so he left. When they first contacted Kai, they were being hung up on, but after a while, he said he no longer answered and Kai just let their calls go on.
I messaged Jackie about what had happened, and like me, she was awake and finishing work. She immediately went there with the police and asked the neighbors about the incident. Meanwhile, I continued to look for Kai and I noticed a person wearing a hoodie, mask, and hat and he was looking at something inside the car. I suspected that it might be a thief, so I immediately approached him.
That person immediately ran away. I shouted at him and chased him but he immediately got into his car with a plate number of 2V06. I immediately called a staff member to look for a gray Peugeot car with a 2V06 plate number.
"Copy that sir." He said.
" Make it fast," I said, and ended the call.
I immediately approached the car the man was planning to steal. When I thought about it, I was very surprised that it was Kai and his two friends. I immediately knocked on the door but Kai didn't wake up. I immediately broke the window and Kai and his two friends were surprised.
"You all go out now." I said and the three of them went out. I immediately smelled the alcohol in the car and on them.
"What the hell? You broke my car?" The guy said.
"Shut up before I call your parents! It's early in the morning and you're out here drinking? Don't you know there's a man planning to steal from you? It's good and I saw it right away and you're still inside?!" I said to them angrily and looked at Kai.
"Kai, get in the car right now." I said coldly. He didn't react but he just got inside my car.
"You two go home before I call your parents. Luckily, I came before some man stole something from you. Kai is with you, I hope you at least called or said something to his mother who has been worried and looking for him for a while." I said.
"Sorry sir, because Kai has a problem and he didn't mention anything to us. He just wanted a companion, so we were his companions. We don't know what happened because Kai didn't say anything. Sorry." They both said. I nodded and sighed.
"This is the last time, okay? I know your faces and you two are his friends. I don't want to report you guys drinking outside again. Go home." I said, and they nodded.
They waved goodbye to Kai and they told him to see him tomorrow at school. I wait until they leave before I get inside my car.
The whole ride was silent, Kai was obviously still drunk and he was fighting his sleepiness.
"You can sleep for awhile now." I said.
"Do you think this is my fault?" He suddenly asked.
"No." I said.
"How can you tell?"He asked.
I didn't answer because we don't have enough evidence as to whether Kai was really involved in this incident. I know for myself that it is not because I know and see how Karl and Margaret raised him. Kai is a good kid and so is his sister. It's unlikely that he was involved in this mess.
"Go to sleep and you still have school." I said and he didn't answer and I heard him snoring softly.
I held my breath. I don't even know what to do anymore. I have so much to take care of, so much I have to find to end this mess.
Forgive me Karl, but I'm getting weak, I don't have the strength, I don't have the ability anymore. If you were here, it would probably be over soon. I'm scared too.
After that, I arrived at Karl's house. I saw that some policemen were still talking to Margaret, who was crying while Kelly was letting her to calm down. When they saw my car, they immediately walked towards me. The mother and daughter kept crying and I signaled them to be quiet because Kai was already sleeping.
I took Kai out and picked her up. It wasn't a normal weight for a man. Kai is too light and doesn't seem to be eating. She weighed almost as much as a fifteen-year-old girl.
"Investigate who threw stones and immediately arrest him on the charge of malicious mischief." I said and the policemen nodded and said goodbye.
"Thank God my son is home safe." Margaret said, crying.
"I'm sorry Mr. Collins, I really don't want to make them bigger, it's my fault that my brother got it, you know..." Kelly said.
"I understand, but right now Kai needs you, he needs your guidance and protection. If he feels he's in danger, don't hesitate to call me," I said, and they nodded.
"I'll take him inside." I said.
I followed Margaret and she took me to another room where the window was so high that even I couldn't reach it. This is a vacant room for guests and Kai will sleep in this room for the time being. I laid him down on his bed and tucked him.
"I'm sorry for the trouble ahh Oliver and thank you for looking for Kai. I've been really grateful to you since Karl died." Margaret said.
"I owe you a lot to accept me and Karl as your family. You are no longer different from me and the two are like my children. I promised your husband that I would protect you as much as I can, so don't be afraid." I said, and Margaret nodded.
"Can I see Kai's room where the incident happened?" I asked.
"Come on, follow me." Kelly said, and we left Margaret with Kai.
