HELLO, STRANGER

CHAPTER 4

KAI'S POV

Haist, I'm so tired from school. After my class, I went to the library to do some advance reading. Layla and Paul are busy with the counciling so I have been separated from them. I also said goodbye that I will be ahead of them. At first they said I should just go along with them, but I was excited going home, so I went first. It was afternoon and the sun was about to set.

I felt a strange presence today. I feel like someone is watching me from behind. I looked but I was the only person. Because I'm still on the road and there are only few people here and cars. It's so quiet sometimes that the silence is deafening. I sped up my pace because I wasn't feeling well anymore. I feel scared.

I heard footsteps so I immediately ran because of fear and nervousness. I took my cell phone to call mom but because I was running I couldn't see my cell phone screen very well. I was just staring when I suddenly tripped and fell. My leg hurt and I saw that I was injured. I hope the fear I feel is gone.

My heart was pounding and I cried out in pain. My cellphone rang and when I saw it was a message from J.

From: J

Did you get home?

6:34 pm

I didn't reply at first because my leg hurt. I was surprised when someone honked behind me. I heard his car open and I felt relieved when I heard the voice of Mr. Ollins, the detective.

"Oh sh*t, are you okay?" He said whila panicking.

"Was there someone earlier? I heard some footsteps, maybe something bad is going to happen! Help me!" I said panicking. I almost cried from fear and I grabbed his arm.

"Okay, okay calm down. There's no one here. Here, let me help you." He said and picked me up like a newly married woman. It's strange, but I didn't appeal because my foot really hurt.

"How did you end up here alone? It's almost night and you're walking alone? What if something happened to you and no one passed by? It's a good thing I happened to be here. What happened to your leg and why is it bleeding?" He said worriedly. He sat me in the passenger seat and treated my foot.

"Because I was at the library earlier to study and I didn't realize the time and I didn't go home with Layla because they were still doing something on campus so I was already ahead." I said and he nodded. He bandage my foot and helped me to seat properly on his car.

"But it's good and I came here. If not, maybe no one will help you." He said and closed the door on my side. He got into the driver's seat and started the car.

"Are you sure no one is there? I heard some footsteps. So I ran and tripped." I said and he looked at me for a moment and looked down the road.

"Kai, people don't pass through here much anymore because of the many accidents that happen. Besides, I didn't see anyone else except you." He said and I was surprised. If there are many accidents here, why did he come here?

"If there have been so many accidents here, why did you come here?" I asked and he just chuckled.

"I'm a detective, I probably need to monitor people and keep them safe. We won't know right away if something bad is going to happen." he said and that make sense. I'm so stupid.

*Vibrate*

From: J

Hey, still there? Please reply. I'm worried.

Oops, I forgot to reply.

To: J

Sorry, I had a bit of a problem earlier but I'm fine. Fortunately, Mr. Ollins saw me so I'm complacent.

After a seconds he seen my message and replied. That was fast.

From: J

Why? What happend? Are you hurt? Did someone hurts you? Are you alright?

Cute in a weird way?

To: J

Yeah I'm fine. I just got tripped earlier but I'm okay. Mr. Ollins actually cleaned my wounds and bandage my leg so thankfully, I'm still alive haha.

Sent.

"Is that the person you met online?" Mr Ollins asked. I nodded.

"But be careful, you don't know the person so don't immediately believe what they say. You don't know them completely or even see them." said Mr. Ollins and I nodded.

"Yes, but he admires me and this is the first person who has admired me even though I'm gay." I said and bowed in shame.

"Actually, I can't blame you either. There's nothing wrong with being gay. You have the looks so there's nothing wrong with women or men admiring you. But I'm telling you and reminding you, don't believe it right away." He said as a reminder, I smiled and nodded.

"Because look, you also said that you rejected the three who committed suicide, but that's it, you haven't seen or talked to that guy in person, but you're happy with your conversation even in chat." He says.

"Well that's different. William is a playboy and he doesn't take anyone seriously, second the girl who gave me a love letter is too desperate and it was kinda scary. Lastly Kayla, Kayla is a little too much I mean she's like a queen bee and also a bully. Even though she's a woman, I'm still scared. She even threaten my friends that if they help me, she will do something bad to them. So I let her bullied me without asking help from my friends." I said and he sigh.

"What a selfish person you are. But it doens't mean we will stop investigating about what happen. I believe in you so don't make me disapoint. Your father will be mad if he's still alive." Mr. Ollins said, dad and him are actually friends. Dad is also a detective but he got in a car accident. This is also why Mr. Ollins are also protective because he made a promise to my dad to protect us no matter what.

He didn't cover me up because he's a friend of my dad. He already said that I should not disappoint him and that he will believe me as long as I am telling the truth. I really have nothing to do with the three and I can prove it.

*Car's stopped*

"Oh my god, my baby! what happened to you? Why is your leg bandaged?!" Mom asked worriedly and Mr. Ollins helped me stand up.

"I saw him on *** road, he said he tripped, but don't worry Mrs. Hilbert, I already treated his foot. Just clean it so it doesn't get infected." Mr. Ollins said and brought me inside the house. Mom thanked him and I sat on the sofa.

"Mrs. Hillbert, can I talk to you alone?" Mr. Ollins asked. Mom looked at me and she nodded.

They went to the kitchen and I didn't hear them talk anymore. They talked for a minute and I saw Mr. Ollins come out, he also said goodbye to me and then left. Mom looked at me and I saw on her face that she was scared and worried, she was trying not to show me that she was crying and she just smiled. Did something happen? What did they talk about? Am I in their conversation again? Should I be worried?
