Jack had never looked more beautiful than he did as he swept through the screen door, service pistol held in a steady hand.
How did he get here so quickly? I hope he has some back-up. If not, he was out-numbered two to one. She didn’t think either Conn or Gus was a push-over.
Gus raised his hands obediently, clearly too wise to challenge a ready nine-millimeter. He might seize an advantage if the opportunity arose, but for now he did not resist.
Conn began to bluster. “You can’t do this. You’re interfering in a custodial situation that doesn’t concern local authorities. I’ll have your badge so fast your head will spin.”
