Chapter 4Amy awoke to the sound of a door closing softly. The bedding was still warm from Jack’s body, but he was gone. Through the gap where the drape did not quite fit snug against the wall, she could see the first hint of sunrise coloring the eastern sky. Although she wished he’d wakened her to say goodbye, she knew he was wise to leave before anyone would see him or the children might wake up. He’d told her the sitter often stayed all night, sleeping on the trundle bed in Jenna’s room, so that was not an issue.
