Chapter 8

2055 Words
JANA When I heard someone entering my room, I claimed to be asleep. I'm not prepared to meet whoever comes to check on me. That's why I followed Anaya's instruction not to open my eyes so we could hear what they were going to say, and then plan what we'd do next. "Why hasn't she woken up yet?" inquired a familiar voice. I can't be mistaken; he's the pack guard who discovered me hiding at the border earlier. "She's supposed to be awake by now," a woman responded softly. "Perhaps the medicine causes her to sleep more. She's so frail, and it's best for her to rest more." "Okay, take care of her and always keep an eye on her. You are perfectly aware that no one should flee your care," commanded the pack guard. I stayed listening while they talked about a few more things before the man went to the door and left the room. "I know you're awake," a woman standing by the side of my bed remarked. I gently open my eyes, and one lovely woman stands in front of me. For the first time, her enchanting smile made me feel comfortable and secure in this place. "Who are you?" she asked softly. "Jana, my name is Janna Collin from the Dark Moon Pack," I said with a weak smile on my lips. "What happened to you? You looked dreadful," the woman in front of me inquired. I heard Anaya's voice, and I was gazing into her eyes. I blink twice as I consider whether it is safe for me to trust her. "Don't worry, Jana; we're new here. Don't just blindly trust someone," Jana counseled me. Fortunately, my other half is now with me. Otherwise, if it's just me, I might tell the woman in front of me all she wanted to know. "I'm sorry, I don't recall anything," I stated emphatically. The lady politely asked me a few questions, but I didn't give her much information. I'm not sure why Anaya wanted me to keep so many things from us. My wolf appears to be quite secretive; she rarely tells me anything about her other half. I'm still wondering why she doesn't want to shift. I just stayed silent when she suggested we were both fatigued and shouldn't do it yet. I have a lot of questions concerning her behavior and why she's acting this way. "Stop thinking Jana, you bother me a lot with your ridiculous thoughts," my wolf Anaya replied sarcastically. I merely rolled my eyes and looked at the woman who seemed to be watching me intently. Only now do I realize she's staring at me, and she might have witnessed when Anaya overpowered me and took over. "So you have a wolf, maybe I can talk to her," the woman in front of me said. "About what?" Anaya responded solemnly. I tried to control her, but she's stronger now, which is why she overpowered me. It can be difficult to have two minds in one body, especially one as stubborn as Anaya. "Nothing, I simply wanted to get to know you both better. Because you've lost your memory, it's possible that your wolf will recall everything." With a pleasant smile on her face, the woman who is speaking with me stated. "She knows nothing about our past," Anaya coldly answered. "Why?" The woman asked again. This woman's constant questions irritate me. As if she used to question everyone around her, even myself. She wanted to dig up my entire life history as if it were her job. I sense her motivations, and it appears that she has a hidden personal objective. "My wolf only showed up two days ago. She can't say anything and she is still stunned by what's going on around her. She's mute, so communicating with her is challenging for the time being." I was curious about Anaya's response and wanted to ask her, but I restrained myself because I didn't want to do something embarrassing in front of the woman who kept on asking. She appears to be up to something, and Anaya plainly detects it. "Wow, incredible. Anyway, my name is Brittany, and I'm the one that looks after you when you're not awake. Don't be afraid; you're safe here," Brittany responds sweetly. Anaya nodded, but she didn't respond further, possibly to end the conversation. I can tell she's not at ease chatting to Brittany. Something is off, she seems so restrained in everything, and I'm not sure why, because Anaya doesn't usually tell me anything. "In that case, you should rest more. I'll give you some medicine to help you recover your strength," Brittany remarked as she smiled at me. "Wait a minute, why am I locked here?" Anaya inquires as she raises one of our legs. "I'm sorry, it is the alpha command," Brittany simply replied. I used all of my strength and worked extremely hard to overpower Anaya, and thankfully she let me. She instantly faded into the back of my mind without saying anything. "Here, take this," Brittany remarked as she handed me some pills. I took it from her and grabbed the water she offered to me, but I was taken aback when Anaya warned me not to swallow it. "Jana, be careful, you don't need that medicine. I can smell the chemicals she used to make that, and it's not safe for us," Anaya stated. I was about to ask her more questions when she told me to pretend that I had consumed the pills. Anaya told me to throw it out from the window right after Brittany turned away. "How come you asked me to do that?" I inquired with Anaya. "That medicine she gave you has strong drug ingredients, which may cause you to lose your senses and do whatever she says. Just pretend you agreed with whatever she said to avoid any confusion. Make sure she doesn't suspect you. Remember, Jana, there is only one person in this place we can trust," my wolf explained. "And who is that person?" I immediately questioned Anaya right after she finished explaining. "He is the moon goddess's gift to us. He is our protector," Anaya replied. "How did you come to know all of this? Do you know who he is?" Anaya gave a small smile as she heard my query. She seemed to know far more than I do, as she stated that the moon goddess has assured her. I'm glad I have someone in this pack who will protect me. I believe Anaya because I know she would never lie, and the moon goddess will absolutely hide and protect us from someone's deception. "You should keep an eye on Brittany because I don't trust her. I can detect her malicious plan," Anaya further added. I'm grateful to her, and I'm thrilled that she's here with me. I've never felt so alone as I do now. It makes no difference if my parents reject me as long as I have Anaya. I'm so happy that I never regret fleeing to prevent my parents' brutality. "I'm hungry, Anaya," I replied softly. We couldn't even find food for breakfast earlier, let alone kill a rabbit to eat. Now that I've shackled her, my only alternative is to wait for someone to bring me food to eat. "Be patient, we will eat our breakfast," Anaya replied confidently. She was right; within half an hour, a woman with short gray hair entered the room, holding a tray of food. I was overjoyed when she delivered to me the bowl of vegetables with a small portion of meat on top. My mouth is salivating as I continue to fill my lungs with the delicious smell of meat. I've lost count of how many times I've wished to eat such healthy food, but I've only had nothing but left over. I smiled politely at the elderly lady, but she only nodded. I can't stop myself from eating the warm food in front of me since I'm so hungry. I quickly dig into my bowl full of food and begin eating. I'm pleased with the flavor, and I really like the sweetness of the delicate juicy meat on my plate. Someone simply barges in the door as I continue to eat. I looked at him straight in the face, surprised at how he was staring at me. "You!" he uttered seriously. I tried to evade his sight by looking away. I lowered my head and focused solely on his shoes. I kept praying to the moon goddess to save me from this man in front of me, who I knew would kill me if I did something he wouldn't like. Fearful and unsure of what to do, I accidentally swallowed the meat in my mouth, causing me to cough as it became lodged in my throat. Fortunately, an elderly woman came to my help and brought me a glass of water before hitting me on the back of the neck. "Oh my goodness, Jana, you're going to kill us both!" Anaya scolded me. When I saw the shirtless man approaching my bed, all I could do was swallow my saliva. He moves his legs slowly, as if he is prepared to seize and devour me for a wonderful meal. I'm just keeping an eye for his movement. I recognize him, which is why his presence makes me nervous. I didn't anticipate Alpha Romano being in this room right now. He might come here to figure out who the intruder in his pack is, and punish me for my crime. "What is your name?" Alpha Romano asked, his voice heavy and baritone. "J-jana," I muttered. I didn't hear anything else from him. I expected him to leave, but he just stood in front of me, staring at me intently. I was uneasy. Who wouldn't feel the same way I do right now if the mighty Alpha Romano of the legendary Storm Forest Pack was in front of me? His threatening glare sends shivers up my spine. I entirely forgot about the food in my lap, and you simply remained silent. I watched him move his foot and began to approach me, but I didn't bulge. I could feel his piercing eyes on me, as if I had some sort of connection with him. I'm not sure why, but when I heard his voice again, I had a strange feeling that made me cringe. "Look at me," he commanded. My stomach clenched as I heard his voice. I had the impression that I desired something that I couldn't pinpoint. I'm puzzled and obligated to do what he wants me to do since I lack the necessary strength. "Look at me, Jana!" He gave me another command. I sighed heavily and gradually raised my face before focusing on his thin lips, sharp nose, and finally his eyes, which seemed to be filled with a great deal of emotion that I'm unable to identify at the moment. He didn't say anything; instead, he merely fixed his eyes on mine until I noticed that they had turned from blue to black. My heart began to race with terror as a result of his direct gaze on me. He appears to have something to say, but instead of saying it, he merely stands next to me in silence. "A-alpha!" I said in a voice of shock. I wasn't expecting him to approach me and quickly touch my face. I can't believe Alpha Romano acted this way in front of me because I anticipated him punishing me for committing a crime by fleeing to his territory. I'm not sure what happened to me now. Instead of carefully putting his hand against my face, I chose to close my eyes and feel him. I couldn't get my thoughts straight since all I wanted to do right now was feel the weird sensation generated by his palm stroking my cheek. "Mate. My Luna," he muttered. Alpha Romano's statement surprised me. I couldn't believe he'd say this, let alone think I was his mate. Maybe he's mistaken, because it's impossible for me to be his mate. I just found Alpha Ashton as my mate, and there's no way I can be mates with anyone, let alone this mighty Alpha Romano.
