FREYA
I could not sleep at Icarus' tower, not after what happened between us that evening. Between the failed attempt to kill Icarus and the s****l tension, I could not tell which of them inspired my decision.
However, I was rudely awakened by a series of knocks on my door, followed by Icarus walking in without even waiting for my response.
“Wake up, Sleepy head. It is time to go shopping.” Icarus said with a huge grin on his face.
“What in helluva…” I groaned, checking the time on the digital clock on my bedside dresser. “It is 6am, Icarus. It is still so dark outside. Did you have to barge in here so early?”
“Absolutely, Freya. I literally have the key to every room in the castle.” Came Icarus' arrogant reply. “And I know how it can be for you women to get prepared, so I decided to inform you on time so you could have enough time to prepare before we step out later today.”
“Well, mission accomplished, now get out of my room!” I cried out, pulling my blanket over my head.
Icarus chuckled, yanking the blanket off me and tossing it to the other side of the room before bolting out of the room.
“Arrrrrghhhh, I hate you Icarus!” I screamed as the door slammed shut after him.
With my blanket gone from me and my eyes wide open all thanks to Icarus, I decided to follow his advice and just kick off with my day.
He was definitely going to pay for disturbing my beauty sleep.
Time seemed to whizz by as I practiced some spells before freshening up for the day. Ava soon brought breakfast and while I ate, I wondered where we were actually going shopping.
I had never really gone shopping since a hundred years ago, so I did not know what to expect. But if there was one thing I knew about shopping, it was the fact that It is always so fun, no matter the era.
I was quite excited to say the least, which was why I scarfed down my meal as soon as I could before Icarus would come knocking again.
Just like I predicted, he came knocking right after breakfast but this time, he waited for my permission before he came in.
“You look set and ready to go.” Icarus mentioned, watching me pull my hair into a low bun with a scrunchy.
“Yes I am.” I said, turning to him afterwards.
“Shall we?” He extended his elbows to me and like I always do, I eyed it, totally ignoring him as I walked out of the door.
***
We arrived at a really large boutique and I could not hide my awe at the magnificence of the building in one of the clans close by.
“Beautiful, isn't it?” Icarus asked as we walked into the building.
I nodded, mouth agape. I had never been to a boutique this big and I was excited to see what it looked like inside.
I was more than impressed when we walked into the building. It was like a whole world of outfits with different beautiful dresses adorned by mannequins, with the rest hanging on several clothing racks.
They had all kinds of clothes and undergarments for both men and women and I was excited to begin shopping.
“So...where do we start?" I asked, bouncing on the balls of my feet.
Icarus watched me in amusement. “We can start whenever you like and you can get whatever you want.”
“Really?" I squealed, walking over to the cloth rack closest to me to begin shopping. For every one outfit or shoe I got, Icarus added two more.
I had three tryouts for the ball gown I intended to wear for the event and I found it hard to pick just one so Icarus just bought all three dresses.
After several hours of shopping, we had several trolleys filled with shopping bags and I laughed at how all these were going to fit into the car.
“You go ahead, I have something to pick up at the men's section.” Icarus said to me and I nodded, joining the queue at the pay point.
There were several people in front of me, so I was not really bothered at first. But the line was moving really fast and it was almost my turn.
“Ugh, Icarus, where are you?” I muttered, biting my lips as anxiety washed over me.
What did he expect me to say when it was my turn and I had no money to pay for all the many things I had to buy?
“Next.” The cashier called out and I nervously approached him. However, his warm smile worked wonders in easing the anxiety that coursed through me.
“It was quite some shopping you did here.” He said, eyeing my full trolleys with a smile.
“Well, every pretty woman deserves to be spoiled, so you deserve it.”
I chuckled, smiling shyly as I passed the bag of clothes to him one after the other. “Why, thank you. You do not look so bad yourself.”
“Are you flattering me now?" He gasped. “I really hope not because I am already planning to go tell all my friends that the prettiest woman I have ever seen called me good looking at work today.”
“Stooop! Now you are the one who is flattering!" I giggled, shielding my face behind my palms.
“I swear, I am not.” He replied, wearing a flirty smile on his face.
His eyes seemed to undress me as they slowly took in every inch of my features and my curves.
“I could literally stare at you all day. Literally.” He said, biting his lips in a seductive manner.
Unsure of what to do myself, I fiddled with my hair, rolling and unrolling it on my finger while averting his seductive gaze.
Can Icarus just appear here already?
“So, what is the pretty lady's name?” He asked, leaning forward on the counter.
Before I could reply, Icarus appeared from nowhere, wrapping his arms around the man’s neck with a snarl on his face.
“Her name is none of your business.” Icarus growled at the man who had a terrified look on his face.
I was scared for him as well, and I had no idea Icarus would respond to the situation in such a crude manner.
“What is the meaning of this, Icarus? This is so embarrassing!” I yelled at him.
“You think this is embarrassing?” He asked me, anger seeping from his voice. “You are the one who is embarrassing by flirting with this...thing! Did you not notice he was hitting on you?”
“Put him down, Icarus. You are creating a scene!” I snapped, fuelled with fury.
What was wrong with this maniac and why was he acting like he owned me?
We had not even had the mating ritual yet and he was already acting this possessive. I would not tolerate such misbehaviour from him.
“Why should I put him down? Because you asked me to?” Icarus shook his head, tightening his grip on the cashier's neck who was already growing red from lack of oxygen. “He needs to learn his lesson, Freya and I am ready to teach him.”
“The other staff are already calling security, Icarus. Stop this right now or I am going to walk out that door and never come back.” I threatened, my heart slamming against my ribcage as I shook in a combination of anger and fear.
Icarus growled, releasing his hand from his neck before letting him drop to the ground. I felt sorry for him as I watched him catch his breath. Icarus, on the other hand, was remorseless, tossing his card at the man who caught it with shaky hands.
He made sure he avoided any form of eye contact with me as he swiped the card and packaged our purchases. I glared at Icarus throughout the process.
“What is your problem?” I snapped at Icarus as soon as we stepped into the parking lot. “You just acted like a huge asshole because there was no reason for you to have acted the way you did back there!”
Icarus stopped on his tracks, letting the shopping bags drop from his hands and he slowly turned, his eyes blazing with fury.
“I am an asshole for trying to protect you?” Icarus said, taking menacing steps towards him. “He wanted you, Freya, and if you were too blind to see it, I will tell you.”
“I am not denying what he did, I am just saying there were better ways to handle the situation!” I retorted as Icarus stopped right in front of me.
“I would not sit back and watch some random boy leer at you. I will handle it the way I want, Freya.” Icarus lowered his voice, but I could feel the intensity of every word he spoke.
I shook my head as I stared into his eyes.
“You are crazy, Icarus.”
He cupped my face in his palms, his eyes softening as he spoke. “If keeping you away from perverts makes me crazy, then yes. I am crazy for you Freya.”
Nothing prepared me for what happened afterwards, as Icarus closed the distance between us with his lips claiming mine.
My belly fluttered and warmth enveloped me. The feel of his lips against mine and the intensity of the kiss muddled my brain and sent my hormones haywire. At that moment, all I could think about was Icarus, and I hated myself for it.
I shoved him hard, shooting him a dirty look. “What the hell is wrong with you?” I screamed at him before running towards the car.
“I am sorry, Freya!” His voice echoed behind me but I paid him no mind.
I was not just angry at Icarus because he kissed me. I was more angry at myself for enjoying it.
