CHAPTER 27: SWEET SARA

1825 Words
FREYA Rage filled my heart and blinded my eyes, fueling me with strength to go ahead with the plans I had put away for so long. But not anymore. Now that I had the moonbell in my possession, I was more determined than ever to end Icarus for all time. I assembled all the ingredients I had, not caring if they were complete. I had the Moonbell and that was what mattered. A smile bloomed on my lips and the sight of all the ingredients, ready to prepare the potion that would set my soul and that of those Icarus had killed at rest. I did not care if the guards or any other person walked in on me at that moment. I was ready to snuff the life out of anyone that dared to follow me down to the woods. I got to the centre of the forest which was the heart of the Jade pack forest. I figured whatever I would be concocting would have a greater effect if I did it right at the heartbeat of the forest. With the twist of my wrist, a cauldron appeared in front of me, steam rising up into the air. A maniacal smile creeped on my lips, tears streaming down my face as a barrage of emotions coursed through me. It was time. Time for me to rid the world of a blood thirsty murderer hiding behind the cloak of a ruler. It was time to fulfil destiny. I danced around the cauldron, swaying to the chants that filled my lips as I poured in the ingredients one after the other into the pot. Ik heb je samengesteld om je potentie en kracht nu te mixen! mengen! en word de ultieme oplossing! I chanted and danced, tears streaming down my face as pain pricked my heart. I remembered all the people that Icarus had unjustly claimed their lives and it urged me to dance and chant even harder. I had put all the ingredients, and all that was left was the sealer, which was going to be the Moonbell. The sealer was unusually the most powerful ingredient, and it is the ingredient that activates a potion. A high level of focus was needed to infuse the sealer into the potion being prepared so I shut my eyes, opening the eyes of my soul. With the eyes of your soul, your sight is heightened and more sensitive, and can pick up even the slightest movement. This was why ultra focus was required, because of the sensitivity of the soul's eye. I inhaled a shaky breath, pulling the Moonbell while muttering the spell as fast as I could but as I did, something whizz passed me and my physical eyes flung open, terminating the sealing process. I could sense a familiar presence, but there was no one in sight. My brows creased together at the thought of someone watching everything I had been doing. I could not let that person go. I had to find whoever it was in the woods with me at that moment. “I know you are in there, so come out!” I commanded, and a whimper filled my ears, followed by the rustling of leaves. Was that...a child? I flicked my wrist again and the cauldron disappeared. I quickly followed the sound, until I traced it to its source. Hiding behind some herbs was a little child, and from the facial features and long hair, I could tell it was a girl. Her eyes were filled with fear and her face stained from crying. “Oh, hello... how are you?” I cooed, taking steps closer to her but for every step I took towards her, she took two away from me. She was shaking with fear, and I knew I would not be able to help her much if she was not comfortable with me. I stretched out my hand, wearing a smile on my face. “Come on, I do not bite.” I beckoned on her gently, and as she came out of hiding, I gasped. She was the daughter of the witch who was just murdered. I pulled her into a warm embrace, pacifying her as she broke into tears again. “It is going to be alright…you are safe now, okay?” Several thoughts ran through my mind. If she was there in the woods with me, it meant guards would soon be looking for her. I would not let them take her away. Not on my watch. “Did your mummy ask you to find me?” I asked her and she nodded. “What is your name, honey?” I asked her. “Sara.” She whimpered with quivering lips. Seeing her so broken and vulnerable pricked my soul and I wrapped my arms around her again. “It is going to be okay, Sara.” I whispered, biting back the sobs that threatened to escape from my lips. I could not cry now. I had to be strong for Sara and her mother. I had suspicions that her mother would recognise me as a witch, and it made me more ashamed that I could not do anything to save her. But now I had another opportunity to right my wrongs. This was a huge weight I had to carry, so I had to put the potion on hold and get this little girl to a safe place. “The guards will soon come looking for you, so we need to get out of here to a safer place, okay?” I said to her and she nodded in understanding. I took her hand in mine and together we walked deeper into the woods. I tried to remember the path I took when I was on my way to the Jade pack after my transformation. It was the quickest way to get out of town before the guards caught up to us. I noticed Sara was getting slower and slower and I knew we had to stop and rest. “Hey... what is wrong?” “It..it hurts…” She cried out, pointing to her bare feet. “What hurts?” I asked, carrying her to a rock to sit while I inspected her feet. I was not prepared for the sight that awaited me. “What in helluva…” I exclaimed at the large blisters that decorated her soles. It must be from her trying to get to her mother in the fire. “Oh no, this must hurt so bad…” I said and she nodded, hissing in pain. I placed her legs on my thighs, letting my hands hover over her feet as I channelled my healing chakra. A glowing blue light emanated from my palms, enveloping her feet and I felt Sara physically relax. When the light disappeared, so did the blisters. “How do you feel, sweetheart?" I asked her. “Better. Thank you." She wrapped her tiny hands around me in appreciation and I felt my heart melt. At that moment, I swore that I would do anything to ensure Sara was safe. “Are you hungry?” I asked her and she nodded. “Well, me too." I chuckled. I had used so much energy and it was wearing me out physically. I knew I had to get something to eat as well. I lifted up my hands, drawing it together in a pulling motion and fruits flew to our feet from every direction. “Wow!” Sara clapped excitedly and I took a bow like I just finished a magic performance. It felt good to have someone appreciate you without feeling terrified by what harm your powers could possibly cause them. I washed the fruits in a stream close by and we ate them in silence. As we ate, I noticed her clothes had burnt patches, and it would arouse suspicion if I were to take her to the human world looking like that so I had to do something about that. After eating, I felt refreshed and strengthened. With a snap of my finger, a dress appeared in front of us and Sara was in awe. I got her into the dress quickly, bearing in mind that we had wasted a lot of time and we needed to get out of the woods as soon as possible. We soon drew close to the city wall, and guards littered the perimeter. “Shhhh…” I said to Sara and she covered her mouth with her hands. I knew I needed the concealment spell for us to be able to navigate the soldiers. I held on to Sara, muttering the concealment spell under my breath. Verbergen, laat ze niet zien! With the spell activated, we were able to easily sneak past the guards. Away we went, far from the Jade clan and on our way to the human world. We knew we will not be able to make it far on our feet, and I was yet to master the teleportation spell so I quickly flagged down a car. Luckily for us, the car was empty of passengers. I stared deep into his eyes, hypnotising his soul as I spoke. “Take me to the human realm.” The man nodded in hypnosis. Sara and I rushed in, and soon we were on our way to the human realm. I hugged Sara closely as we drove on. “We will soon get you somewhere safe, Sara.” When we arrived at the human realm, I was able to locate a good orphanage home, where Sara was welcomed with open arms. “We will take good care of her, don't you worry, okay?” Said the woman in charge of the home. Sara hugged me tightly, unwilling to let go. “Don not go.” “You know I have to, sweetie. I will check on you when I can, okay?” I tried to reassure her as I wiped a tear from my face. She nodded, sobbing. “Stay safe and be a good girl, okay?" I struggled to voice out amid tears and she nodded again, wiping her tears with the sleeve of her dress. It took a lot to walk away from there without sweet little Sara with me, but I was relieved she was far from harm. Unfortunately, all of these would have been avoided if Icarus had just let Hera go. I journeyed back to the Jade pack with renewed vengeance. It was hard to believe I had ever let my guard down for Icarus. I let myself be deceived by a façade. I knew deep down Icarus was far from being innocent, but I was swayed by his actions which made him appear to be an angel when deep down he was a demon. Icarus had to be stopped, and I was the one to put an end to his tyrannical reign.
