FREYA
I hated parties.
Apart from the fact that I was enclosed in a room with so many wolves who would eat my heart if they found out I was a witch, I just never fancied the crowds that came with parties.
The only interesting thing about parties was the food. Other than that, everything else did not interest me and I could not wait for the party to be over so I could achieve my real purpose of coming to Rivendale.
To find the Moonbell flower.
Soon after Icarus and I were introduced into the ball room, it had been one introduction after the other. It was really hard to keep up a fake smile for such a long time and my cheeks were starting to hurt.
I found a way to slip out of his grasp and I headed straight to the dessert table. Unfortunately, parties like these did not serve real food, and I was starving!
I did not mind the weird glances I was getting, I went on to fill my plate with as many desserts as possible. I was grateful for the masks that partly shielded my face so I could not feel embarrassed.
I found a secluded spot where I was sure Icarus would not find me and began to munch on my stash of desserts. I watched the crowd as I did, anger suddenly swelling within me.
Icarus had successfully spread his anti-witch agenda and the passion with which they spoke against witches filled me with the desire to reveal my true nature and destroy them all, but I had to restrain myself.
I had to keep my eyes on the prize. The prize was Icarus, and my main focus was to destroy him. The others would come later.
Soon, my plate was empty and I had just gotten to the dessert stand when I felt a familiar presence behind me.
Our damn bond made his scent so strong, it was hard to miss.
“What do you want, Icarus?” I asked without turning around.
“A dance.” He replied, drawing closer to me with his hands on my shoulder.
He gently turned me around to face him, extending his hand towards me.
“May I have this dance, my lady?”
I placed my empty plate on his outstretched palm, walking away but he was quick to stop me before I could get away.
“Come on, Freya. We talked about this.” Icarus said through gritted teeth.
We were already getting some weird glances, and I knew it bothered him.
I remembered we had to keep up a convincing relationship, but the problem was that I could not dance to save my life.
“I know. But that is not the reason I am turning you down, Icarus. I can't dance.” I admitted, however, shamefully as I stared at my toes.
Icarus looked amused, which he tried to hide by scrunching up his face, but it was evident in his face.
“That is...not strange at all. ” Icarus replied and I scoffed. “Not everyone is expected to know how to dance, but I guess I had just never met anyone who could not dance.” He quickly added.
“Well? I guess you should easily find another partner then. I would only end up embarrassing both of us.” I replied with a shrug.
“You are in luck because I am a pretty good dancer if I say so myself.” Icarus announced with pride, swiping off invisible dust from his shoulders.
“Someone is full of himself.” I chuckled and rolled my eyes, turning round to continue filling my plate with desserts but Icarus was quick to stop me, again.
“No, no. I did not say that because I wanted to brag. It just means I am just the perfect teacher for you.”
I sighed. “You are not going to give up until I agree, are you?”
“You got that right.” Icarus chuckled and I groaned.
I would not have been here in the first place if this was not the motherland of the Moonbell.
Eventually, I grudgingly agreed, placing my hand in his while plastering a salty smile on my face.
“Let us get this over with.”
“Do not worry, you will enjoy it.” Icarus assured me as he led me to the centre of the room, where a few couples were already swinging to the tune of the orchestra.
I stood a wary distance from him, but he pulled me closer, laughing as he wrapped his arms around my waist. Heat spread from where his hands touched my skin to the rest of my body and my belly flipped in excitement.
I hated the way my body responded to his touch. What a betrayal!
“We can't dance if we are so far apart, Freya.” Icarus whispered, with his face centimetres away from mine as he stared deep into my eyes.
At that moment, the music changed into a more solemn, heartfelt tune and Icarus' full lips lifted into a smile.
“I guess they are playing this for us.” He whispered and I rolled my eyes. I wonder why he was being so cheesy.
He threw my hands around his neck, tightening his grip around my waist as we swayed to the music.
His eyes searched every bit of my face, lingering a little longer on my lips and I felt my entire body ignite under his intense gaze. He was fire and I was fuel, and we were a conflagration waiting to happen.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” I whispered, still locked on his gaze.
“How exactly?” Icarus replied.
“You know how…" I remarked, rolling my eyes.
“Well…” He began, his eyes still lingering on my face. “Because you are beautiful.”
He leaned closer into me, his mint breath tickling my face. “If you look this good with your clothes on...damn, I am itching to find out how good you’d look out of it.”
I bit down on my lips, failing to hide the tinge of red that creeped on my cheeks as I felt myself melt in embarrassment.
“f**k…” Icarus moaned, and I could feel the raw desire from his eyes. “Do that one more time and I am going to rip this dress off you and make you scream my name.”
I exhaled a shaky breath as my body betrayed me once again, goosebumps decorating every inch of my skin.
“I know you want to know how good it feels to have me inside you… ” His lips tickled the side of my face, increasing the moistness in between my legs.
“Would you like to find out?” Icarus asked, moving his hands up my back in a feathery motion that sent my emotions haywire.
I whimpered in frustration. “You are torturing me, Icarus.”
“Well, how about we bring the t*****e to an end and bring our imaginations to life?” Icarus asked and like I was under hypnosis, I nodded, letting him lead me out of the dance floor to an unknown destination where we could burn in our pleasures.
We had barely gotten to the door when a blood-curdling scream filled the room. We turned around to see all eyes on us, with horrified expressions marring their faces.
Some old men and women dressed in priestly garb, bolted towards us. One of them yanked Icarus away from me, his eyes shining with fear as he pointed a shaky finger at me.
“This woman is a witch!”

ICARUS
My ears rang and I felt my heart stop for a second after the priest's words hit my ears. I looked around in confusion, as hostile eyes were directed at Freya who quivered on her feet.
“You are a witch!” An old woman pointed her crooked finger at Freya, her eyes filled with fury. “Your people eat our children and hunt down our sons!”
“I am sure you have bewitched the ruler of the Jade pack!” Said one of the men, taking menacing steps towards her. “ Release him now!”
“What is the meaning of this?” I asked in confusion.
“From the moment she walked in, I sensed something was different about her…” The priest said, glowering at Freya. “...she did not have the regular wolf scent, so I thought it was because she was your Luna...until I sensed the presence of a witch!”
I yanked my hand from the priest's, frowning at him. “And what makes you think Freya is the witch you are looking for?”
“After I sensed the presence of a witch, I noticed that whenever I was around her, the scent was stronger.” He narrowed his eyes at Freya who kept her eyes trained on the floor.
“The strong scent of sage incense surrounded her. I still was not sure until I felt the presence lift up as you were able to take her away. That confirmed my suspicion.”
“Let us burn her on a stake!” A voice cried out from the crowd and the entire room erupted in a cheer.
Freya's eyes widened in horror and she quaked in the arms of the guards that held her.
“Let us burn her in hot oil!” Another voice screamed out and he received cheers as well.
How dare the White wolf pack accuse Freya of being a witch when I myself have tested her and found her innocent?
If I did not step in, they were going to kill Freya right in front of me. I was not going to let that happen.
I stormed over to Freya, shoving the guards away from her in fury. I wrapped my arms around her, shielding her from those who wanted to take her away and burn her on a stake.
“I brought my Luna to your masquerade ball and this is how you treat her?” I growled, pointing an accusatory finger at them.
“You are all acting like hungry, bloodthirsty wolves. Is this how you treat your guests?”
I took in a deep breath, trying to calm the anger swirling inside me. “Since you have decided to embarrass me and my pack, I openly cut ties with-”
“Icarus, Son of Donovan!” A strong voice cut me off.
The crowd soon parted hither and thither, and the ruler of the White wolf clan walked through the path created in the middle by his people.
He soon stopped in front of me, taking a bow.
“My people have done you wrong for laying such grievous accusations on your Luna.”
I bowed slightly in response, my Luna still in my arms. “They are indeed grievous, and I will not tolerate such mistreatment from your people.”
“Tarekha! I am disappointed in you for making such claims…” The White Alpha said to the priest, who tried to explain himself.
“Silence!” The White Alpha shunned him immediately. “Not another word from you.”
He turned to the guards who previously held Freya. “Arrest him and throw him in the dungeon.”
“Pardon me, Sire! I was only doing my duties!” He cried out, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.
“On behalf of my people, accept our sincerest apologies, Icarus.” The White Alpha said, bowing again. “It would be terrible to lose a valuable ally like you over some silly misunderstanding.”
After a beat, I cleared my throat.
“We accept your apology.” I replied, still holding on to Freya who was shaking in my arms.
The loud clang of a giant bell filled the room and murmurs rose up into the air.
“W-What is going on?” Freya stuttered, turning around to see what was happening.
The White Alpha lifted up his hands, a smile on his face as he turned around and announced.
“The full moon is upon us!”
