Chapter 5On his way home, Arnie tried to analyze why he’d referred to Jason as his roommate, not his partner. He rationalized it was because they’d never verbalized what to call their relationship. They’d just been together for so long that everyone, including Arnie, assumed they were partners. For all he knew, maybe they were just roommates.
He thought about whether Dr. O’Connor’s question regarding Arnie living alone might have a deeper meaning than if Arnie had sufficient help with Mama and her pups. He wondered about the doctor not wearing a ring. And did Dr. O’Connor being glad Arnie was going to take on the task of raising the puppies also mean more than what it seemed?
