Chapter 3Arnie had cleaned out the floor of his closet, put in a fresh blanket, and propped a leaf from the dining room table across the doorway to make a nest box for Mama and her babies while Jason had been in the shower. He was just moving the family into their new quarters when Jason emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a towel.
Jason stopped short. “What’s this?”
“I thought this would be safer for Mama and the pups than on the floor by the bed where we might step on them.”
“No, no, no, no, no…No!” Jason said emphatically. “They’re outta here today! And until they go, outta the bedroom!”
“Well, I need to make sure they’re okay, and this is the best place for that, and I have to see if the pound can take…”
“They’re outta here today!” Jason repeated and began to get dressed.
