Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to go digging around about Claire’s past. I thought about that several times on my way to Rubén’s office. But there were several unanswered questions, and things which I needed to know.
Clearly, she didn’t know anything about her past. And with everything going on, I felt like I had to be the one to figure things out for her sake. And if there was anyone who would know the truth about all of this, it would be Ruben Gallagher, the man who knew everything about the council.
Ruben was astonished that I would come to him with this. I could see it in the way he raised a questioning eyebrow, his lips slightly parted as he regarded me, not with contempt as I imagined he would given our history, but with confusion.
