Chapter 3 - Off

.......... Alexi ......... The crowd was overwhelming as my brother and I entered the club. The thumping music pounded our ears as we took a moment to figure out where we wanted to go. Ky suggested that we grab a drink before we hit the dance floor, and I agreed. I took a deep breath as we quickly made it to the bar, but I only took one step before coming to a sudden stop when my eyes wandered down the bar counter. “What?” Ky asked, while everything, including my heart, stopped for a moment as I stared at the girl sitting at the end of the counter. She was the hottest girl I had ever seen, with long flowing wavy brown hair and a smile that could light up the room. Just then, as though she could sense me looking at her, she looked up, and my lips parted, my breath catching in my throat as I froze in my spot, feeling a faint current flow through me as our eyes locked in a trance. I felt my body go rigid, the intensity almost too much to bear as the gemstone-green eyes turned me inside out, but just then, her lips moved, and the spell broke as she whispered something that knocked me back to my senses. I blinked rapidly, her words ringing in my head as I tried to get back to my senses, while my brother asked me what she said. She said I was the guy who was going to take her virginity, and I was sure she did not want me to hear that, but I did. I couldn't sense her wolf. The girl next to her had a wolf, but her scent was of a human, which meant she didn't know about my supernatural hearing or she was thinking I didn’t have my wolf yet if she knew about wolves. I had my first-year student shirt on, which meant I wasn't twenty-one yet, and if she was a wolf, she knew we only got our wolves at twenty-one. Male wolves got their wolves at twenty, and she-wolves at eighteen, but there were rare cases where one might get their wolf late or early, but they were very rare. My brother and I, however, are not wolves. He’s a Lycan, and unlike wolves, he would get his Lycan a year earlier, at twenty. I, on the other hand, am something different. I’m a hybrid. I’m half-vampire and half-Lycan like my dad, and my vampire side was activated on my eighteenth birthday. So even though I didn't have my Lycan yet, my senses were very much heightened, and I could hear everything down to the last whisper. “Excuse me!” someone said behind us, and we realized we were blocking the entrance and moved out of the way, my eyes finally looking away from the girl. “What happened?” Ky asked, and I repeated what the girl said, causing a big smirk on his face as he muttered, “You're a prince,” something he liked to say when he thought I was going to do something I shouldn’t. He asked if we were still getting that drink, and I told him, of course, as we proceeded to the bar, even though maybe we shouldn’t have. . . ....... Lex ....... “What?” I asked, following Fifi’s eyes after she said she found the guy who was going to take her virginity, and my eyes widened at the two guys standing by the door, immediately understanding exactly how she felt. Standing tall at 6'3'', they exuded an air of power that immediately became apparent to everyone as heads turned toward them. Soon, their commanding stature was matched by their confident strides as they made their way toward the bar. Every girl they walked past was swooning over their chiseled features and piercing eyes that demanded attention, drawing the room to them like a magnet. They felt like royalty. They took seats a little far from us while Fifi shamelessly gawked at them. I tore my gaze away from them and asked the bartender for another drink, and just then my phone vibrated. I took it, and it was Avery asking where we were. My cheeks flamed up as I recalled our steamy encounter on the plane, which reminded me of how I felt when we were making love. Unlike Fifi, I had my wolf already. I got mine when I turned eighteen and I’ve always liked Avery, but the feeling intensified when I did six months ago. He didn’t have a wolf yet, so there was no way of knowing for sure, but I couldn't get over the feeling that Avery may be my mate, and I was scared to tell him that. I didn’t want to seem desperate, plus, what if I was wrong? “Who is that?” Fifi asked, snatching my phone away, and I snatched it back, saying no one. But she had already seen that it was Avery. I told her he was coming here, taking a sip of my drink, but she wasn’t looking at me anymore; she was looking at the two guys. “Why don’t you go over to them?” I asked over the music, and just then, they looked at us. Fifi became a blushing mess as they raised their glasses at us, and we raised ours at them. “That was weird,” I said, and she asked me what was. “How they turned and looked at us just as I said you should go to them as though they could hear us,” I explained, and she nodded, still looking at them. The guys were hot, and there was no doubt about that, but they were clearly feeling themselves. Fifi was looking right into that Alexi guy's eyes, and I'm sure it was obvious that she was into him. Yet instead of introducing himself, he and his brother went and sat over there. That, to me, screamed uninterested, but it didn't seem like it screamed the same to her. “I’m going to invite them over,” she said, gulping down her glass. But just as she got up, the guys got up too. We shared a look, noticing they were walking over to us, again as though they could hear what she just said. The music was loud, and the only people that would have been able to hear our conversation would have been wolves, not humans, which is what these guys were. My wolf was not picking up wolf scents on them, which meant they didn't have their wolves yet, if they were even wolves. Fifi settled back down in her chair, her heart thudding. “Good evening,” Alexi spoke, and we greeted them back before they introduced themselves. I was right; they were brothers. I introduced us back since Fifi couldn't even look up anymore, now that her new crush was here, and they shook our hands, saying it was nice to meet us before asking if they could join us. I spoke up again, saying they could, and they settled down on the chairs next to us before ordering some more drinks. Fifi finally found her voice as they asked where we were from, and we told them. They were from around here, which came as a surprise to me. A few minutes later Avery arrived, and I introduced him. He said he and his friends were going somewhere and asked if Fifi and I wanted to tag along. But Fifi was not going to leave these guys. She and the Alexi guy were hitting it off at this point, and I didn't know them, so I couldn't leave her alone with them. I told Avery we would see him later after asking if my brothers were going too, and he said yes. He left us, and I shifted in my chair again to join the conversation. I smiled, waving at the girl who was sitting alone in the corner of the bar as she waved at me. Ky asked if we wanted to dance, and Fifi answered before I could, saying yes, and Alexi took her hand as we headed to the dance floor. Fifi danced with Alexi, and I with Ky. The song ended, and another one came on, but Ky received a call, and he had to go out to get it. He apologized, but I didn't mind. I needed a break anyway to go to the bathroom. I whispered where I was going in Fifi's ear, but I doubted she could even hear me. She was so preoccupied with Alexi, as their dance turned dirtier by the second. She was really feeling this guy. I was not sure where the bathroom was, so I had to look around a bit but eventually saw the signs and found it. It wasn’t full inside, and I was grateful as I was pressed. I was quick, and my eyes widened when I came back to see Fifi and Alexi all over each other like they were in their bedroom. I walked over to the bar and ordered myself a drink before turning around to look on the dance floor again, only to see them heading toward the door, holding hands. “Okay,” I muttered while taking a sip of my drink. I guess I was wrong. He was interested. A smile made its way onto my face for my girl as I raised a mental toast to her. She still owed me Q500, though, since I was the one who made the move first. Speaking of moves, I wondered where this place Avery and my brothers had gone, but my thoughts were cut short by Ky’s voice as he returned from the phone call. He didn’t ask where his brother was, but I told him anyway, to which he clinked his glass with mine. Just then, we heard voices speak next to us, and we turned around to see two guys who weren’t dressed in first-year student shirts. They introduced themselves as Lake and Azarios Austen. I guess everyone was here with their sibling. We introduced ourselves back, and they said they were looking for Avery. They said they were with him when he came to me earlier, but they had to quickly go back to their room. I told them where he went, and they asked if they could sit with us and wait for him. We didn’t mind. We all started conversing and I noticed that Lake was very busy on his phone, and whatever he was busy with, he kept showing Azarios. Ky had enough after a while and said he was going back to his room and asked if I was going to stay. I told him I would stay a little, and he left me with Lake and Azarios. They asked where my friend was, surprising me since I didn’t see them when I was with Fifi, and I told them she wanted to go lie down. Like Alexi and Ky, Azarios and Lake were also from around here. I asked them how long they had known Avery, and they said they met him at the new student party last year. They were in their third year. We were still getting to know each other when a guy came up to us and whispered something in Azarios’s ear. They turned to me after that and asked if I would be alright for a few minutes, adding they could walk me to my room but I told them I would be fine. They got up and left after saying they wouldn't be long. I looked at them as they headed towards the door. My wolf was not sure how she felt about them, but a voice behind me snapped my gaze away from them. I turned around to see the girl who was sitting alone in the corner. “Hi, I’m Gyda Stevens,” she said, extending her hand, and I took it. “Alexa Turner, but I go by Lex,” I introduced myself back, and she asked if she could sit with me. I said she could, and she did. I opened my mouth to ask her what year she was in since she wasn’t wearing the shirt, but she spoke first, causing me to look at her, taken aback by her question. She asked if my friend was dating the guy she left with. That wasn’t any of her business. How the hell did she even know they left together? Was she sitting over there watching us the whole time? “Excuse me?” I said, placing the drink down, and she did the same with hers, apologizing. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry. It’s just I saw that you were first years, and the guys like to take advantage of the newcomers,” she said, causing me to breathe again as I told her Alexi is a newcomer too and that my friend is a grown woman who knows what she’s doing. "Thank you for your concern," I added, and she nodded, taking a sip of her drink. She was giving my wolf an off vibe too, and the whole situation was just awkward as we kept looking at each other, not knowing what to say. Before I could break the silence, she spoke up again. "What's her full name?" she asked, causing me to look at her. "Your friend, I saw that her shirt says, Fifi. Is that her name or is that short for something?"
