12 Shopping Spree The next morning, Julian found Melanie at a table near the front window of the taproom, sipping at a cup of tea. She had on another of her fancy dresses, this one dark red, that he had no idea how she kept from being destroyed on the road. Yet she managed it, somehow. "Join you?" he asked as he slid into the chair across the table from her. She raised an eyebrow. "What would you do if I said no?" "I guess that depends on whether you decided to spit fire at me again or not." He thrust his chin out impudently, but kept his tone teasing. Melanie laughed softly and shook her head. Was she actually flushing? "That was…not one of my better moments. But you did deserve it." The hell he did. But he didn't feel like spoiling the light moment by arguing the matter.
