Up high on a small hill, a young lady was trying hard to bury a body under the torment of the strong rain that was accompanied by bolts of lightning. In this stormy weather, it was only the source of light in the dark sky.
Another flash of lightning and the facial features of the one burying the body became clearly shown. Her dark eyes were truly mesmerizing, they matched her blonde hair perfectly and her snow-white skin together with her pinkish lips. Despite her greasy appearance because of the rain, it did not hinder her beauty from radiating that no one could compare.
The lightning had not only shown her beautiful appearance, but as it continued to strike, on closer look, that lady’s eyes were actually dead. It’s emotionless and has lost all its radiance.
As she looked at the grave in front, a cold glint crossed the depth of her eyes, she could still clearly remember how she ended up burying the body of her only family, her twin sister, Kassidy.
She could clearly remember how those people dumped Kassidy’s body on the ground, as if she was some kind of animal, without giving her the least respect as a person. After they used her, they just treated her like that! She did not deserve any of this! She was the kindest, warmest, and bravest person she had ever known! All she wanted was to build a family on her own, yet this had become her endgame!
The dead look in her eyes seemed to have come back to life but there was no warmth, only coldness.
A month earlier, Kathryn received a phone call from her sister inviting her to attend her wedding ceremony. Kassidy’s voice was so happy that it made Kathryn look forward to meeting the man who made her feel like that.
Both of them had lost their parents since young and since then, they became each other’s relatives. When they became older, Kathryn decided to explore the world and left the werewolf world to become a lone wolf living freely while Kassidy remained.
It’s been years since they have not contacted each other. But their bond and care for each other didn’t vanish in the slightest. So when Kassidy finally found her mate and was getting married, she immediately thought of her twin sister and wanted her to be the one walking with her on the aisle. She wanted to share this beautiful moment with her sister.
Kathryn, who didn’t want to miss such an event, immediately agreed to her sister’s request and hurriedly went back to see her. But, who would have thought that the phone call she received from her sister would be the last time she would hear her voice?
She had been contacting her sister for days but the call didn’t go through. This had made Kathryn worry as Kassidy had never done this before. No matter how busy she was, as long as she called, the latter would answer or would call her back before the day ended. But right now, days had passed and she hadn’t heard a thing from her.
Kathryn was starting to get suspicious as the days passed by. Fortunately, Kassidy had told her about the werewolf pack she was part of and the name of her mate.
‘Rhys Dalton, the youngest son of the alpha of the Nightshade Pack’
After weeks of searching, she finally found where the Nightshade Pack was situated. She didn’t know if the heavens were helping or not, but as she arrived, she saw a suspicious car driving out of the Nightshade Pack gates.
As she followed it discretely, a car stopped in a deserted place beside a forest and threw a huge bag to the side. That bag was of human size and after dumping it, the car went off.
As Kathryn saw the bag being dumped, pain in her chest hit her. Her eyes slightly widened and her body leaned at the back of the tree trunk she was hiding as she was caught off guard. The pain was short but she couldn’t deny that it hadn’t happened.
‘Please… Please make my guess wrong! Please be wrong!’ Kathryn was desperately praying.
With her trembling hands, she slowly unzips the zipper of the bag. And what she saw inside made her blood run cold. Kathryn felt all her energy sucked out of her body upon seeing that face she was most familiar with.
There, inside the huge bag was her twin sister, Kassidy, completely lifeless!
“Kassy…” Kathryn reached out to touch her sister’s cold face. She noticed the blood stains on her white dress and purple bruises showing on her skin, indicating that her death was intentional and she was tortured for too long before she died.
This was certainly not the reunion she’d been looking forward to. She certainly didn’t expect to see Kassidy’s dead body on their first meeting after so many years!
It now made sense to her why Kassidy never arrived at her expected time, why she had never heard from her for weeks now.
She began to cry silently. She felt alone and helpless. Like the time she’d lost her parents and now, she was faced with this pain again!
“No!… No! Kassidy! You cannot leave me! You promised me!”
This can’t be happening! She told herself over and over again. Everything was just a bad dream and that dream would be over as soon as she opened her eyes.
Yes, that must be it! She must have been exhausted from her long hours of travel and had fallen asleep somewhere! Her twin sister couldn’t possibly be in front of her, completely lifeless!
However, Kathryn’s reality was just too cruel. As she opened her eyes again, the nightmare wasn’t disappearing and she could still see Kassidy’s pale face and cold body.
She dropped to the floor as the tears she’d been trying to keep at bay burst from her. Her vision became blurry as she cried out for her twin sister. The pain in her chest hurt so much that she had to grip the edge of the bag for support.
“Kassy! How can you do this to me?! You promised me! You made that promise yourself, so why are you breaking it?!” She wailed, as she held her sister’s body tightly.
“Kassy, please wake up…”
Although Kathryn knew that her sister would never wake up again, she still wasn’t ready to give her up yet. No, not like this. She wasn’t ready to lose her yet!
“How could you do this to me?!” She continued to wail, “Didn’t you promise me that you would never leave me alone?! We made plans together?! We made so many plans, so how could you ditch me?!”
If she didn’t have Kassidy by her side when their parents passed away, Kathryn didn’t think she would be able to overcome the pain and grief alone. Even without seeing each other, Kassidy had been her support all this time, the one who constantly supported her, who loved her as no other could.
How would she be able to live knowing that a part of her was missing?!
As she held her sister’s cold body, she wailed in pain and misery. The inner child inside of Kathryn was crying helplessly, crying for her parents, crying for her twin sister who would never come back even how many times she called her name.
“I will make them pay, Kassidy. An eye for an eye!” she muttered as she exuded an even colder aura, not matching her innocent look.
She picked up the suitcase that she had brought with her and started descending the hill. The grave was actually covered with bushes so it is well hidden. This small hill was very peaceful. She had chosen to bury Kassidy as this hill was in between mountains and there was a vast ocean across it.
At this moment, the waves were so strong that it was trying to capsize a boat. She had been in this place for a whole day. From bringing Kassidy’s body up on the hill to digging a grave and burying her. She had actually looked for peonies throughout the place just to place them on her grave as it was Kassidy’s favorite flower.
Although she had an allergy to pollen, she ignored her constant sneezing and the red rashes on her skin just to give the flowers to her sister in her final moments.
Everything happened in just a span of one day. But despite the tiredness, she remained cold and indifferent, she didn’t show any hint of exhaustion. The anger inside her is fueling her energy.
‘I will make this hill mine soon, so wait for me here Kassy! I will bring those who killed you here and make them kneel in front of your grave! I promise you that!’
