Chapter Six: Aida’s POV I was till curious. “Why do you ask though?” He stopped walking, he was ahead of me. I stopped behind him, waiting. “I am my mother’s first child.” he turned to me. “But I’m my siblings' half brother. What am I?” Was that a trick question? Didn’t it mean he’d another father from his siblings? That was normal. I knew humans liked having relationships with lots of people. They had nothing like mates. “Well, I guess that will be determined by what your father was?” I raised a brow, wondering if I was getting his point. He smiled. “Ah. You’re so smart, Aida. It’s almost scary.” He resumed walking. Was I correct then? “Who was your father?” “A big fan boy to a man named Sundew.” Dylan glanced at me. Was that a joke? He just kept making me have more questions. What was he getting at? Was it difficult for him to just speak out? And why was he bringing it up now? “You see, all I know about my father was that he worked under this man but his life’s purpose derailed when his boss died. Ring a bell?” Dylan leaned towards me. Could it be…? “Wait, Sundew? My father’s name is Sundew and he died years ago. Your father knew him? Who was he?” Dylan placed his hand on his chest. “As he’d proudly say, Second in command to the Black Bite Pack and special advisor to Lead Warrior Sundew, Phil Collins.” Phil Collins? No way! That Phil Collins? He was the man who rescued my mother and I during the pack clash when our father face couldn’t come for us because he was with the Alpha. The Second Man in the Warrior League after my father. All I knew about him was that he wanted to be a writer instead but couldn’t get into a university because of his duties in the pack. Honestly, he’s a reason I insist on getting a formal education, because I didn’t want to miss out of my dreams because of my pack. I never knew he had a human mate and son. “But seriously why do werewolves call their full names all the time? Since my mom changed my surname to Greta, I simply introduced myself by Dylan.” He chuckled. “Not I’m ashamed of it but it saves time and prevent the questions.” He finally noticed I stopped walking behind him. “So you’re a hybrid?” It was more of a statement. He obviously was. Werewolves and humans alike find it hard to identify a hybrid because they could mask as either of the species, but mostly human. Hybrids didn’t have a wolf, they couldn’t shift to one either. But they could mind link if connected to one and they had every other werewolf senses and features. “Best of both worlds, as my father used to say.” He shrugged. I agreed with a nod. “Definitely. I’ve never met one but even now I have, you still feel the same…. in a good way. I am really grateful I have a wolf because she’s taken me through lots of hard times but it’s okay if you don’t have.” He shrugged again. “I know. Having someone talking in your head could be bothersome.” Dennis scoffed at his words. I smiled. “So your father had saved me and my mother once from an attack. I know he deflected to another pack and we haven’t heard from him since.” “Neither have I.” I paused. “Really? Oh, I’m sorry.” That must be why his mother remarried but met a jerk and now she was alone again. “Did you go to the Diamond Group of Companies to collect our schedule?” I asked, hastening my steps. “Sorry, we didn’t get to celebrate getting in, instead I bored you with story about my dad.” He apologized. It was no problem to me. I somewhat felt close to his father through him, even if he didn’t resemble his father much. “I went to the company though. I met Zachary. He thought I was the one who won the ‘best in business management'. I humbly told him I wasn’t.” Dylan said. That’s why Zachary said ‘so it was you’ when we met earlier? I nodded. “I resume tomorrow. I can’t wait to start working.” “Huh? I’m resuming next week.” Dylan folded his arms. “My position is not competitive like yours though so I understand wanting to resume early.” Indeed, my position was competitive. And not because many would want to be Personal Assistant or Secretary to Sir Zachary but also because many would like to get close to him. I was given the two choices on a platter of gold. It was the greatest deal of the decade for me. When one door closed, another do open. After my graduation, I dreamt of returning to my pack and into the loving and proud arms of my pack members. It didn’t work. I hoped to find my mate in my pack and had a silly daydream of mating with him at my favorite lake. That was definitely not happening, until I reject Redden and get a second chance mate. The mistake Alpha Red caused in my life ruined all my goals. All the plans I made for myself after graduation had come to null. The internship, that now blossomed my life, was made known to me on the day of our graduation. When I noticed I had trailed off, I shook my head to take away those thoughts then asked. “Dylan, will you follow me home?” “What did you say?” he snapped his head at me and his cheeks flushed. I chuckled, rephrasing my words. “I mean, I’d like my mom to meet you.” That didn’t come out right again. “Your… mom? Oh, Mrs. Sundew, right?” I was glad he finally understood what I meant. “Yeah, that’s if you don’t mind.” My mother mightn’t be interested in knowing about humans but a hybrid should be relatable, especially one that was the son of a man she respected. “Yeah, that’s if you don’t mind.”
