Chapter 17

*If you haven’t read The Alphas Choice and The Reluctant Luna and plan on reading them, this chapter is a flat out spoiler alert. If you have already read them, go right ahead and enjoy*

“She was human”

Jade says, she doesn’t know the story, that is really the extent of it, when Alexis wants to. Jade to sure she will share. Alina and Ava nod to Jade, understanding that they shouldn’t ask. Alexis, on the other hand has no idea her story has turned into some safely guarded secret that she is keeping to herself. She couldn’t care less, if they are interested she would tell them, she just thinks it is boring and not worth bringing up. Of course, she is the only one that would see it that way.

Before long, all four women are dressed and sitting around the table quietly eating. Alexis looks up.

“What are the boys up to? Lucas would usually be sleeping”

“Maybe they are just going to make an early start”

Alexis snorts, obviously disagreeing. If she knows Lucas, which she does, it is definitely something else.

“They are in a competition against us”

“Are you sure? Don’t we have to know if we are in a competition?”

“Everything is a competition in a relationship”

Jade sits back in her chair and ponders.

“I agree, they are trying to win against us.”

Ava asks while tapping her fingers on the table. Of course, she knows what she wants to do.

So what do we want to do then?"

The other girls all shout in unison.

“WIN”

Jade sits back with a satisfied smile on her face as she watches the girls inhale their food. Other than Cressida, she doesn’t get along with that many females, but Cressida is nice but very different from herself. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is hard to keep violence from someone when it is a large part of your life. She can’t help but wonder if these girls will become her good friends in the future. For now, that doesn’t matter. She will just train them wholeheartedly and see what is in the future.

The four women walk outside, hardly casting a glance at the boys before getting in the training ring themselves. Jade stands on the outside of the ring to instruct. She casts a glance at Axel who is busy training with the others, right in the middle of the action. She knows that she will be falling far behind her own mate in this period. There is no real option, but she will not allow the others to do the same.

Even though it is slightly more complicated, the three-way fighting between the girls actually works quite well. All the girls have fantastic base knowledge. Alexis has practiced, she has fluid and flawless movements, Ava has strong and fast movements, Alina is the combination of the both.

The more they fight, the more confidence Alina gets. She is not as far behind the others as she thought. She is thankful for her rigorous training schedule with Phoenix that has managed to close the gap.

In the boys ring, Lucas is against Phoenix and Axel is against Hunter. The four shirtless men pouring with sweat as their strong and large physiques twist and pulse as they seriously train, it really is a sight that is hard to look away from. The women are too busy working out to worry about the majestic sight.

Even Phoenix can’t help but like Lucas, even though Lucas looks laid back and treats everything like a game, he is serious when it comes to fighting. He trains very hard. Axel finally gathers the boys back up, after he has made the rounds and gauged a bit more of an idea of each of their levels. They are all very similar yet they all differ. Lucas is technique, Phoenix is intensity and Hunter is speed, but they are all highly skilled, so he is very relieved that they are starting with such a skill base as they may not have a large amount of time, so just fine tuning is easier than trying to start from the start.

“Good work boys, I couldn’t be happier with where you guys are at. I want to see you in your wolf form now and then we are going to get you to exceed your limits. All of us need to reach breaking point everyday. Only once you push beyond that limit can that limit increase”

With that four wolves run into the treeline, 3 black with varying eye colors and one blonde. Unlike the girls, the four wolves are of similar size; Phoenix’s just slightly larger.

Alexis looks over sadly as the thundering sound of large paws fades away. Ava can’t help herself any longer, questions are eating her up.

“I bet you like having a wolf”

“Of course, who wouldn’t?”

“But I mean how did you end up this way?”

“Lucas and I were mated already. His mum didn’t like the fact that a human was Luna and instigated my violent ex-boyfriend to harm me. He slit my throat. I was dying in Lucas’ arms so he bit me”

Jade, Alina and Ava are just staring at her, their mouths open wide.

“How did you survive it?”

Alexis smiles grimly and sits down on the ground. The other girls follow suit.

“I am not exactly sure. I think I died. Lucas has a twin sister and our beta witnessed it all but they don’t like to talk about it at all. I think it was pretty horrific, when I came too, there was so much blood and Lucas was dead beside me”

“He sacrificed himself to save you?”

“I am not sure. He said that he didn’t want to live without me, so he chose to go with me. Sometimes I wish I knew what happened, but it really doesn’t matter, we are both here now and most importantly, I have my wolf now”

Alina grips Alexis’ hand to show her support.

“Can I tell my story?”

Since they have started sharing, the moon goddess has already indicated that they have all overcome something to become stronger and be the person and the couple they are now. Alexis loses the light layer of gloom over her eyes, as she nods happily.

“Most people, when they find their mate, they are happy, they get mated right away and everything is fine. It wasn’t that way for me. I hated Phoenix….”

Ava is so shocked by the words she can’t help but interrupt, because it is true most people, once they find their mate, it is smooth sailing in the mate department.

“But you seem so good now”

Alina smiles and nods gently, love is clearly seen in her eyes.

“We are now, but it took a while, Phoenix was a man wh*re with his head so far up his own ass that even though he lived in the same house as me, he didn’t even realise I was his mate for nearly a year after having his wolf, don’t have too bad opinion of him, we were best friends when we were young and then rebelled against each other so hard that we both weren’t that great, he was just lots worse”

Alina stifles a laugh and the others smile and nod.

“I nearly rejected him, but in the end I couldn’t do it. I finally gave in and mated with him. I have never regretted it at all, but when I was about to have my Luna ceremony, I got taken and tortured to the point that I nearly didn’t make it. Phoenix saved me”

Ava grips Alina’s other hand to show support.

“Except for the rocky start, Phoenix is the best mate that I could possibly ask for and I am thankful that I gave him that chance, that I gave into the bonds of fate because it is everything that I could have wanted”
