Chapter 1

Years ago, two family dynasties merged their wine companies together. One had a family recipe passed down from generation to generation, one had more than enough money. These two families supported one another and grew to be one of the most popular wine companies the world has ever known. Soon they became inseparable. They were the Gustavos and the Castellos. While Benjamin and Katherine Gustavo were good, warm-hearted, kind and resilient people, King and Adriel Castello were the total opposites; greedy, selfish and all about money. After seeing how well the merged companies had gotten, Adriel Castello was determined to convince her husband to separate. " This is a good time to leave the Gustavos, my love." She began when he was in a good mood. They were still young, fresh and had only one son whom they barely cared for. "Leave?" He sat up from the plush mattress. "Yes." She inched closer toward him. "For how long do we have to remain under them? One day I'm sure they'll do the same. Dump us, since they have enough fortunes to their name". "Do you think Benjamin would do that?" He asked in disbelief. "I know! They have the recipe, they could do anything." "Exactly Adriel! They have the recipe, we don't." He was about to lay down when the words of his wife stopped him. "Who said we don't?" An evil smile played on her lips. King's eyes lit up when he heard this, both his eyes and tone had that glint of hope in them. "We do?" "I told you the day you married me, that you have nothing less than an asset in your home." She got down from the bed, slipping off her robe, leaving only her undergarment on. She swayed her hips as though she was reveling in her new-found victory. One she had been waiting for, for almost a decade now. She handed over a piece of thick paper to her husband. "Katherine always keeps a copy of the recipe with her, I managed to get it." King yanked the paper from her in excitement, running his hands through the ink that held his victory. "Do you know what this means?" "We don't need them anymore, now do we?" She pressed her lips together trying to hold back a full smile. "My love." King kissed the hands of his wife with admiration. "Yes?" "You're worth more than any asset." He kissed her lips. Adriel knew there was only one way to gain her husband's undying affection, and that was to become like him. King couldn't care less what happened with his wife and son all day. He just liked to be in control, calling the shots as though the world was meant for him, and him alone. "Wait." She breathed against her husband's lips. "If we're going to leave, we have to make sure they don't rise again. We have to completely ruin them." "True." He let that thought sink in. "But how?" "Leave it to me." She kissed him again, letting themselves celebrate their new joy. King tricked Benjamin into investing in a scam thinking it was legit. Benjamin lost most of his fortune to it, and had to pay for more damages as the company was illegal. He couldn't get mad at King because he thought King also lost quite a lot. The Gustavos had no idea that they were simply playing into the games and advances of the Castellos. After King saw that Benjamin was in depression, he convinced him to gamble, saying he could win a lot back. Benjamin wasn't in a position to object, he had a wife and daughter to feed. If he couldn't play his role well, he would be a failure. "What have you done?" Katherine said between sobs. Usually, she was kind and patient, but today she lost all sanity because she clearly warned her husband not to go along with everything the Castellos did. Yes, they were close enough as family friends, but Katherine never trusted them as she knew how money hungry they were. "I'll get everything back!" Benjamin snapped in frustration. "Just give me time! Please." He rubbed his temple. "How?" She scoffed. " With what?" Unknown to them, their loud bickering woke up their little girl, who stood at a corner hugging her teddy bear while watching her parents fight. Aiyana at that age could not decipher what was happening, she had only ever known her parents to be bubbly, lovey-dovey and happy all the time. Benjamin's phone vibrated in his pocket. "A minute," he said before taking the call. Benjamin's heart failed to contain what came next. He fell to the ground with a seizure. "Honey." Katherine ran in panic. Crying hysterically, she was able to hoist him to the vehicle. She couldn't wait for a f*****g ambulance when her husband's life was at stake. "Mommy." Aiyana ran to the car, crying. "What's wrong with papa?" "Nothing." She faked a smile to comfort her little eight-year-old. "Hold on, sit here." Aiyana sat next to her father. Katherine wasn't okay just leaving her alone at home. She drove at full speed, breaking the speed limit law and over taking cars. "King Castello!" She roared as she sped on. She was furious, he had brought her family to ruins. "Uncle king." Aiyana muttered as she saw a billboard of king along with his wife announcing the opening of another wine company. Katherine's heart skipped a beat as she saw the post. For a moment, there she forgot that she was on the road, staring at the billboard, she took her hands off the steering wheel. A large truck honking brought her back to reality, but it was a little too late for her to control the wheel. The car crashed tumbling to the other side of the road as the car glasses broke one by one, from the windshield to other things that made up the Ferrari they were in. Katherine and her daughter shrieked in fear of the unknown. The glasses pierced through their skin as they were laid upside down in the car, people gathered all over the street, seeing a pull of blood around her and her parents not saying anything. Aiyana could only struggle to say "Help" before her weak body gave in to darkness.
