DRIVING HIM CRAZY

1221 Words
AMELIA’S POV. I sucked in some air and brought my hand to the base of my throat to clear my throat before staring back at those cold, dark eyes. "I hate you!" I muttered, before spitting on the floor, right in front of him. My voice was laden with the overwhelming and unwavering resentment I felt this time. He was standing too close now, and I could feel the anger radiating from him. The eyes themselves looked so red, it felt like the fires of hell blazed behind them. But this wasn't the time to let him win, I wasn't going to give him that notion, or I would be doomed. Refusing to be dettered, I wiped my wet lashes while holding his gaze, before I spat out again. "I hate you!" But to my surprise, his expression took a sullen dive and his demeanour shifted. Rather than being angry, he smirked, as though he was amused by what he was seeing. "I never wanted you to like me, you know. And let me make it clear. If it were up to me, we would never see eye to eye." His angry veneer had just broken so slightly, and it was hard telling what he had up his sleeve this time. I had no idea if he was threatening me, but there was an underlying challenge in his words, as though he dared me to confront the situation we had found ourselves in. He leaned even closer this time, like this was a conversation he was ready for, one that he had been waiting for. "You still haven't given me an answer, Amelia." His voice was barely above a whisper as he reminded me of the annoying question. I looked to the other side of the room, away from him, hissing and battling with the urge to barrage him with a litany of insults. I stepped to the side, watching as his eyes followed my every move, like a shadow. I was forced to give in to my intrusive thoughts, since I refused to offer a satisfactory answer. "I don't care what you think, because you've always been cruel. You are free to do whatever you want. You're the Devil's incarnate, right? Just in case you don't know or you've forgotten, devils don't give choices; they impose." Despite the way the vein at his temples had started to protrude from him gritting his teeth in anger, I couldn't stop, not now. "You think you're cool but you have no idea how childish you are. And that's what landed us in this predicament. If you had set your stupid pride aside and had communicated with me, maybe we wouldn't be in such a mess and things could have been different. I had no idea about your deal with the elders, and this marriage certainly wasn't with my consent." I sighed loudly as I finished my tirade, it felt so good knowing I was redressing my unhappy lot in the best way possible. But the tension that followed was quite taut. I could feel it in my bones, in the air, and in those cold eyes that stared back at me now. I said nothing but stared back instead, challenging him to respond but the silence lingered for a while, amplifying the already strained atmosphere. I was forced to speak in the end, already getting uncomfortable with the way he was staring at me right now. "Why did you send for me tonight?" I asked, but the response I could get was another moment of silence. It wasn't long before his breathing became heavier and his eyes turned red again. I had to take a few steps to the side, away from him. But he was still too close. The proximity felt suffocating, and I was all nerves as the tension intensified. Outside, an icy breeze blew, causing a tiny shiver to run through me. I knew I had to get out of this place, immediately. "Since you have no use for me tonight, I will be going. And I hope you think about the things I said." I turned on my heel to leave, clucking ruefully despite feeling so worried. I could still feel his laser-like gaze fixed on me. But just as I was about to walk out the door, his strong hands grabbed my worn out hands, spinning me around. I gasped in shock, trying to free myself from his inexorable fist. But that's when I lost my footing. I was crashing to the floor when he caught me, and I found myself staring up at him as he held me in his arms, and his intoxicating aura filled my nostrils once again. His eyes began to dilate, and it felt like there was a flicker of something more profound, something he desperately tried to hide, like a splinter and it was driving him crazy. The eyes, chico, they never lie. ALPHA JAX’S POV. I was steaming when she was done talking, and the emotional scars from her insults raked at my chest and I couldn't let her get away with it. "f**k it!" I muttered, reaching out to grab her hand and pull her back. I had pondered over the words she had said, and it made some sense. I could feel a strange twist in my chest as I listened to her. Maybe if I had communicated with her beforehand, the situation could have been avoided. But I had chosen to be harsh, and had instead dragged her into the lion’s den, causing the council of elders to reject her. I was reconsidering my decision for the first time in what felt like centuries, and it felt so foreign. I was pulled out of my thoughts when she blinked, and I found myself staring vacantly into her face. I stared down at her, feeling my groin harden with sensations I hadn't felt for long. It was the first time since our encounter that I allowed the thought that something other than hostility could exist between us. Everything just felt so f*****g strange, and despite the warning at the back of my mind to stop what I was doing. I knew I couldn't. And her features weren't helping matters now. The dim lighting highlighted the delicate lines of her face and the way she looked so f*****g fragile added to her allure. I reached out to brush back the stray strands of hair on her face before I could do that, she forcefully pushed me away. "Get off me, you dumb f**k!" She cursed. I staggered a few steps back, still entranced as I stared at her. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" She asked, but I couldn't say a word. I could only notice that my hands were shaking. And she saw them. "Don't you dare touch me again!" She warned, despite the fact that I said nothing. "We should steer clear of each other because I have nothing to do with you, and the same goes with you! Freak!" She opened the door and banged it, before scurrying down the hallway. The words to describe what had just happened eluded me. I was shell-shocked. And as I struggled to grapple with the situation, there was only one question in my mind. "What just happened?"
