Chapter 6

Chapter 6 Helena I was nervous when Maria came and told me that Mr. Salvatore wanted to talk to me. I was in a really cool moment with Summer. I succeeded in winning her over the moment we met, and I want to be able to help her have nothing but beautiful days from now on. "Does he want you to leave, Lena?" "No, my love. He just wanted to talk to me is all. I promised you I'd stay, and I will do just that, okay?" "You promise?" "Yes, I promise." "I will wait for you to read my bedtime story." "You can wait. I will come back and read your story." I kissed her head and left to face Mr. Ice. I know I'm meeting a man who's like a block of ice with no heart beating in his heart but a stone. I understand the pain of his loss, but failing to love a beautiful girl like Summer and still blaming her for her mother's death is already too much. I entered his office, and our conversation was cold. He did not show any emotions. He was like an empty shell. He's drowning in the pain of losing everything around him. I feel sorry for the people who need to spend more than fifteen minutes with him. I avoided his questions about my family, especially about my mother kicking me out, and that's why I'm alone. I hated it when he mentioned that I don't dress well. I don't have the best clothes; I get that, but he didn't need to offend me like that. But when it came from him, I wasn't really expecting much. At least I have complete freedom to take care of Summer, and I'll be able to give her the best days of her life. Our conversation ended, and I left his office. On my way back, I met Gilbert. "Hi, Gilbert. Mr. Salvatore asked me to give you my documents. I'll just take it from my room and give it to you." "Of course, Helena. I'll wait here." I rushed to my room to get my documents and gave them to him. I said good night and went back to Summer's room. I felt warmth in my chest when she smiled when I came back. I entered the room and closed the door behind me before sitting beside her. "See, I wasn't gone for long." "Hmm, a little." "Do you want to talk a little before I read your bedtime story? "I don't know what to say." "How about you tell me about your day before I came?" "It's boring! I have no friends because I can't bring them here to play. When grandma was still alive, I could bring friends with me to play in her house, but here, the boss doesn't allow me. Hmp!" "Before you came here, what kind of life did you have?" "Well, grandma often takes me out. My school was much better! She was always with me, reading my bedtime stories, always giving and showing me love. But when she became a little star, everything turned boring and bad. I don't like it here! I want to live in grandma's house." "But you know you can't, hmm?" "I know... but I thought that if I turned away the nannies, he would take me back there, but he didn't!' "Will you turn me away?" "No... because I like you." "I like you too, and I want to take care of you. I won't be like your grandma, but I would do anything to see you smiling and laughing." "You promise?" "Yes, I do." "Do you have a mother?" "No. I am an... orphan." I don't want to go into detail about my mother. She condemned me my whole life because of my birth, and let that monster hit me and leave a mark that will always remind me of the pain of my past. Now I'm leaving that life behind, and I want to forget that I have a mother. "So you're like me?" "Yup!" "Don't you miss having a mommy?" "Yes, I do! I really want to have a mommy who will love me, play with me, and always be by my side, but... she's not here, and I need to accept that." "And it's sad." "I know, but we're used to it now, aren't we? Now I want to know what you do every day." "Maria will wake me up to have breakfast together because the boss doesn't want anyone eating with him! After I had breakfast, she would help me with my homework at school. After that, I would play some music. I will take a bath at noon and I will go to school. When I come home from school, I will take a bath again, play a little, and I will eat dinner. Then, either I go to my playroom or come and stay here until bedtime!" "And how about the weekend?" "I just stay at home. Oh! I can play a little in the garden." "Do you want to do something you can't?" "A lot of things! I want to play ball in the garden, I want to swim in the pool, I want to go outside and have ice cream, I want to go to the park and play, but I... can't." "But now you can do them! From tomorrow, plan your day ahead, and it will be better." "Will you take me outside?!" "Hmm! We'll eat ice cream, play in the garden, swim in the pool, and do whatever you want to do!" I was surprised when she jumped and hugged me around the neck. A sincere hug of a child who's locked up, as if a bird locked in a cage, imagining the day she can finally fly like her friends. We stayed like that for some time until she released me and looked at me with a happy smile with a different glimmer in her eyes. "You are an angel! Grandma always tells me that someday I will meet an angel who will take care of me, and you came!" "I am here, my love, and I will be with you for a long time." This time, I was the one who hugged her, and I poured all the love I had into her. I want to give every happiness in life to this little girl who suffered a lot of things at such a young age. At least I'm now here to support her, unlike me, who has to deal with everything in my life. I don't have love or affection; I only feel pain and nothing else, but now that I have the chance to start a better life, I will give the love I hold in my heart and receive some love, even if it comes from a little girl. She looked at me after we pulled away from each other. "I don't think I need to prepare anymore, right? If I act, Mr. Bossy will let you stay." "I will not leave, my love. I will stay with you, okay?" I know I can't promise her that, because of Mr. Ice's personality, he might kick me out the moment I did something wrong, but I can't break her heart again, so I need to keep my promise whatever happens. "Now, what do you think about brushing your teeth, changing into your pajamas, and sleeping?" "If I ask you something, will you do it for me?" "Story? I can make something now." "Not that; I want you to sleep with me." "Sleep with you?" "Yes. I don't want to sleep alone anymore. Grandma always sleeps with me, but since I came here, I need to sleep by myself. Now that I have you, I don't want to sleep alone anymore." "Okay. I will sleep with you, but I need to get my things from my room first." "I will brush my teeth while you're there." "Good girl." I left her room to go to mine. Because Mr. Ice isn't interested in what's happening in Summer's life, either sleeping with her or in my room won't change anything. I walked to my room and met Maria halfway there. "I want to talk to you, Helena." "I'm with Summer." "The boss told me to give you the card." "He told me that, and I don't see the need to, but..." "Better not to upset the beast, dear. Buy some things for yourself and we'll avoid some problems." "Alright, Maria. Tomorrow, I will go with Summer to buy some things." She gave me the card and wished me a good night, and I know I will. It will be a better night than the ones I have had in the past few years of my life. I feel like this time I can truly be happy.
