10| Camping.

Our cars parked in front of the station and as I was about to enter the station, I heard a voice call my name.
“Hazel.”
I turned around to see who it was and I saw Owen.
My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw him, as I wasn’t expecting to see him there. Even though he was all I was thinking about at that moment.
“Oh Owen, what are you doing here?” I asked, as I moved closer to him.
“I came to see you.” He said.
I lifted my brows, as I couldn’t remember setting an appointment with him.
“You came to see me? But we didn’t agree on meeting.” I asked.
“Yes, we didn’t agree to meet but I was just hoping I could see you. I know you’ll busy that’s why I didn’t call.” He said, and those words made my heart to flutter.
“Oh.” That was all I could utter.
“Hope you are good? I can see that you arrested the bad guys, my bad ass detective.” He joked and I smiled.
“I am okay, how are you?” I asked.
“I am okay too. Hazel, can I see you tonight?” He asked and looked into my eyes.
“Yes.” I said. I couldn’t even say no even if I had wanted to. His eyes did something to me.
“Alright, I will call you.” He said.
“Sorry, I have to go.” I said.
I had to go and interrogate the suspects.
“I know, see you later. Bye.” He said.
“Bye.” I said, then turned around and entered the station. Even though I didn’t want to leave him, I had to.
“Where are the suspects?” I asked chief when I entered the station.
“They are in the interrogation room. It’s your case so go and interrogate them.” He instructed.
“Yes sir.” I said and walked down to the interrogation room.
As I entered the interrogation room, I sat down on the chair across them, then I started questioning them.
“Who is the mastermind of the abduction?” I asked.
They all turned their faces to look at the person sitting in the middle, without saying a word. And with that, I knew he was the one.
“I heard you saying something like the victim is your niece, am I right?” I asked him.
“Yes, she is.” He said with a low voice, while his face was down.
“What pushed you to do this to your family?” I asked.
Before he could reply, chief opened the door and informed me. “Mr. Samuel is here.”
“Please tell him to come in.” I said.
“Ben, what are you doing here?” Mr. Samuel yelled, immediately he sighted the suspect.
“Mr. Samuel do you recognize this man?” I asked.
“Yes, he is my brother. But I don’t understand, what is my brother doing here?” He asked, with a confused look on his face.
“He is the mastermind of the abduction.” I said.
His face twisted into a scowl then turned to his brother and asked “Benjamin is what she just said now true?”
“I’m talking to you Benjamin, is it true?” He asked again, when he didn’t get any response.
“Yes.” Benjamin said and nodded his head in affirmation.
“What have I done to you to deserve this? You have nothing doing for yourself. I cloth you, feed you and I even provide shelter for your family. Is this how you want to pay me?” Mr. Samuel cried.
Benjamin shrugged and said “I asked you to give me money to start up my own business but you refused.”
“So that’s why you decided to rob me of ten million naira? And moreover, I asked you to write a business proposal and that’s what you failed to do. I can’t give you ten million naira just like that. I can’t even stand this anymore.” Mr. Samuel said and stomped out.
I left the investigation room and went to the chief’s office.
“There’s nothing to interrogate, none of them is denying to have committed the crime. So, my job is done chief.” I announced.
“Well done, Hazel, you have done a really good job.” He praised me.
“Thanks chief. But we did it together.” I said.
“But if not for your plan B, we would have been f****d. Anyway, you can take the day off tomorrow.” He said and my mouth curved into a smile.
“Thank you chief.” I said and left his office.
“Hey Hazel, congratulations.” I heard Lizzy’s voice say.
I turned to see her approaching me.
“Thank you Lizzy.” I said.
“So, I saw your friend again today.” She said.
“I saw him too.”
“Girl what’s going on between you two? Because I am sure you are not just friends.” She said.
“Why are you so sure?” I asked.
“I actually saw you guys while you were talking outside, and the way you both look at each? I can tell that there is more to it. Better stop deceiving yourselves and make it official.” She advised.
“I’m scared, men have done me dirty in this life.” I said. I couldn’t believe I opened up to her.
“Oh sweetie, let’s find a place to sit.” she said, then grabbed my wrist and we both walked to a bench and sat on it.
“Do not let a few bad relationships change your perception of love. You need to give love another chance, you need to let someone in someday. Life will get lonely and you’ll need a companion. Love is very sweet with the right person.” She said, with a sweet voice.
“He hasn’t even said anything about love, but I can see it in his eyes.”
“He probably wants to take things slow, but when he finally professes his love to you Hazel, don’t let him go.” She advised and I was ready to take that advise.
“Thank you, Lizzy. I know I can always talk to you. You always have my back.” I said and smiled.
“What are friends for?” She said and smiled back.
“I have to go now.” I said.
“Okay, see you tomorrow. Bye.” She said.
“Chief said I could take the day off tomorrow, so i won’t be here tomorrow. Bye darling.” I informed her, then I hugged her and left.
Few minutes after I got home, I received a call from Owen.
“Hey pretty.” Owen said and I could tell that he was smiling.
“Hey.” I said. “We are going to meet tonight yeah? how about we go camping? So you could ease out your stress.” Owen said and I smiled.
“That’ll be a great idea.”
“Okay, I’ll set everything up and pick you up by 7pm.” He informed me.
“Okay, what do you need me to bring.” I asked.
“I want you to bring you. Just you.” He said and I felt butterflies in my stomach, he seemed so romantic.
“Okay.” I said shyly.
“See you later Hazel.” He said.
“Bye Owen.” I said and ended the call.
‘I wonder how the camping will go.’ I said to myself and I let out a very big smile.
