CHAPTER 17Meztli shivered in the chilly air and stared across the top of the stairs. The waiting and needing to be constantly on the alert was worse than actually doing something. She was on the lookout above the main cave door with Urco while Zolin and Cualli had sneaked across to the other rocks and were concealed there.
Nobody had disagreed with her plan of how they should be paired but she knew that if Urco went with Cualli she would be the dominant one and if it came to a fight he could not stop her impulsive reaction to the events. Zolin would keep a cool head and Cualli could not boss him around. The only change she made was Zolin's request that she should remain at the lookout above the cave whereas she had wanted to go across to the other rocks. Both groups were armed with musket
