CHAPTER 16In a hastily made plan, Zolin and Urco took up a position behind the rocks that overlooked the top of the steps while Meztli, Cualli with the help of Yaku and the other women, began to shift the children to the caves. Many were still asleep but most had begun to awaken, and though groggy and disorientated, not to mention shivering with cold, they were carried or led to the cave.
A few of the older children recovered enough to help carry little ones, many crying, across the barren plateau. It took a longer than Meztli expected to move everyone but finally all forty were gathered in the cave and given warm clothes from Tupac's pile to wear. Afterwards, hot quinoa broth was handed around in bowls. There weren't enough bowls to go around but nobody cared about sharing. More torches
