CHAPTER 11The floor below showed more signs of recent use. In many ways it was like a village with a corridor that stretched out from the stairs with rooms containing living quarters just like a self-contained cottages on each side. The difference was at the end where there was an elaborate bathroom with water running through a stone channel. Meztli had no idea where the water came from but was fascinated by the series of wooden slates that could be lifted so water could flow into stone-lined pools large enough for a person to sit in. There also appeared to be a stone that, when pulled away would release the water into a pipe that led through the wall outside somewhere.
