The Hidden Heiress

Chapter 3

At the old lady’s house, the little girl, as soon as her parents left, went to the garden and was swinging on the swing. Her grandmother was looking at her in awe. The little girl looked so happy and beautiful.

The old lady wanted to hide her beauty and innocence from the rest of the world. The world was too cruel for her, the old lady knew. But at the same time, she knew that, her bambina needs to get strong and live in that cruel world. She has to be strong, else the evil entities of the world will destroy her.

After playing for more than two hours, the little girl was tired. She wanted to sleep. So, she went towards her grandmother, who was sitting on the tea table near the rose garden.

“Nonna!! I am tired. Can I go to sleep?” the little girl asks to her grandmother.

“Yea my bambina, you can go and take some rest. But before that I want you to drink the orange juice, I prepared for you,” The old lady says as she gives the little girl a glass of orange juice.

“Ok nonna, I will drink the juice,” the little girl says, taking the glass from the old lady’s hand and starts drinking it obediently. The old lady smiles at the little girl and feels proud that she is raised good and that she has learned all the good manners.

After the girl, drank the orange juice, she gave the glass back to the old lady.

“Thank you nonna. The juice was really good,” the little girl says. The old lady smiles at the little girl and takes the glass. The old lady’s maid, Afria takes the glass from the old lady’s hand.

The old lady takes the little girl to her room and puts her to sleep. The little girl fell into deep slumber and sleeps. Seeing that the little girl had slept, the old lady kisses her forehead and then leaves the room, closing the door on her way out.

After putting the little girl to sleep the old lady went to her room. She took out some files and was going through the files. After some time, the old lady’s maid, Afria, came to the old lady’s room with the phone in her hand. The maid’s face seemed worried and sad. Seeing the maids face, the old lady understood that whatever the matter is, it will be something bad.

“Afria, what is it? Who is it on the phone?” the old lady asks calmly. The maid just lets out a tear and hand over the phone to the old lady. The old lady takes the phone and speaks.

“Hello?” the old lady says calmly.

“Hello. Am I speaking to any relative of Mr. Ohvin Davis and Mrs. Charlotte Davis?” the person on the other end of the call asks.

“Yes, I am Ohvin’s mother and Charlotte’s mother in law. May I know who this is?” the old lady informs and then asks.

“I am officer Decker speaking, ma’am. I am sorry to inform you that You son and daughter in law have met in an accident near Cotswold,” The person, officer Decker, inform the old lady. Hearing the piece of news shook the old lady’s whole world. She could not believe her son and her daughter in law have met in a accident. She just spoke to them a few hours ago!!

“Officer Decker are you sure that you are speaking about my son and daughter in law?” the old lady asks, hoping to hear a no in answer. But who could deny the truth?

“I am sorry ma’am, but I am sure that they are your son and daughter in law,” the person, officer Decker says through the phone. The old lady closes her eyes and tries her best not to break down then and there. After a few seconds the person, ,officer Decker, speaks in a low voice.

“Ma’am I don’t know if I can tell this, but I do not think this was any accident. I believe it must be planned,” the person officer Decker says in a whisper. Hearing him, the old lady was confused.

“What do you mean officer Decker?” the old lady asks. The person, officer decker sighs heavily.

“Ma’am if you do not mind, can you come to the spot soon. It will be better and easy for me to explain the situation to you,” the person, officer Decker asks the old lady.

“Yes, officer Decker, I will be there as soon as I can. Would you give me the exact location please,” the old lady says and then asks.

“Sure, ma’am here’s the location,” the person, officer Decker, says and then gives the location of the accident.

“Thank you, officer Decker. I will be there in within an hour,” the old lady says and then hung the call. She then sat on the edge of her bed and cries her heart out.

Afria who was in the room rushes to the old lady and tries to calm her down.

“Madam please calm down,” Afria says consoling the old lady. After few minutes the old lady calms down.

“Afria, tell Mr. Harrison to get the car ready, I am going to Cotswolds now,” the old lady says as she gets up from the bed and was going to her wardrobe to get her jacket.

“Ok madam, I will tell Mr. Harrison to get the car immediately. But what about little miss Carina?” Afria asks the old lady. The old lady stops on her track.

What about Carina?

Her little bambina?

She is too small to lose her beloved parents!

What about her?

“Make sure Carina or anybody for that matter, does not come to know about this. I will tell her the news myself. If she asks about me, just tell her that I had some important work to finish and that I will be back before dinner. If by any chance I would not reach before dinner time, ask her to have dinner and put her to bed,” the old lady answers. Afria nods her head and goes outside the room and informs the driver Mr. Harrison to get the car started.

Mr. Harrison did as Afria asked him to do. When the old lady came out of her house, he opened the car door for her. After she sat inside the car, he closed the car door and sat in the driver seat. He turned towards the old lady and asked.

“Where to madam?” he asks with respect.

“To Cotswolds. Take me to this exact location. We need to be there within an hour. Understood?” the old lady says giving Mr. Harrison the address she had taken down from officer Decker. The driver, Mr. Harrison, nods at the old lady’s order and then drives to the given location.

Throughout the ride the old lady shed silent tears.
