Chapter Eight: Crescent Fang Pack Part Two
Aurora POV:
"Don't be late for dinner." Shouted mom as we were leaving.
After yelling an okay, Kai and I headed out to explore what was to be my new home now. The fact that I was not on earth and in a different galaxy entirely still hasn't really sunk in yet. I was still a little confused about whether there were only Lycans and wolves here or other supernaturals as well, since this whole multiverse was called the wolf kingdom. Mom did say some other supernatural people were residing in other multiverses as mates to each other. I wonder if humans could be those mates or soulmates that mom and Shawn had discussed.
"Baby bro, can humans from earth be these so-called mates or soulmates to us," I asked.
It felt weird associating myself with the concept of being something that wasn't human because, like hello, I looked, talked, ate and even pooped like a human, so to differentiate myself from the lot was a whole new weirdness to me.
I heard Kai chuckle above me, which had my neck craning to look at him. He was so tall it was annoying, but as I looked at the people around us, everyone seemed super tall. Was I the only pipsqueak here?
"Yeah, Rora. We and all the other supernatural can have humans as mates. It's not all that common, but it can still happen." he said.
"How would that work out anyway? Aren't you guys like immortals or something?" I said.
I didn't know for sure; I was basing my knowledge of the Twilight movies. It must've had some truth to it, right? Since vampires, wolves and all that good stuff existed, that means at least something must have been true about all those shows.
"We aren't immortal; we can be killed, and you are one of us to dumbo as much as you want to deny it, so stop saying 'you guys' and say 'us.' However, our aging reduces drastically when we turn twenty-two. Look at mom and dad. They're both around a hundred eighty-four years old..." but before he could finish, I screamed out a big what.
What the f**k! How was it possible that mom and Shawn didn't look a day over thirty? Wait, does that mean I would have the same case with my aging? My head shot at Kai; he chuckled and answered my unanswered question.
"Yes, dear big sister, you'll live a very, very long life, and your aging will decrease fiftyfold after your twenty-second birthday, cool, huh?" Said Kai.
I couldn't reply back to Kai because I was still in shock. I would live over a hundred years and not look like it all. If that was the case, I didn't even wanna know how old nana and papa were, were they like five hundred, because they sure as hell didn't look more than fifty years old. These people were hell-bent on making my brain explode. Here I thought all I had to worry about was my fellowship exam for specialization once I was done residency, but the information thrown at me left and right in these few hours was really making my fellowship exams look like nothing. I saw Kai open his mouth again, and I swear to god, if he was about to tell me another life-altering fact, I would legitimately collapse right here.
"Please stop. I had enough information fed to me to last me a lifetime. Just shut up and show me around, and no more talking about immortality and superpowers; I'm done for the day." I said, giving him a stern expression.
He just chuckled and held his hands up in surrender. I sighed in relief. For most of the day, he showed me around the pack lands; it was beautiful. If no one had told me we weren't on earth, I wouldn't have believed it; well, maybe I would've doubted it; it looked that similar. Minus the rare flowers and the fresh air around us, which I was sure could not be seen or felt on earth with all the globalization and industrialization going on back home. The vibe I got from around the place and people was so positive; everyone seemed so welcoming and excited to have me here. Everyone we passed by stopped and said hi, while others introduced themselves, asking me about how I was or stuff about myself. Some even passed their condolences for daddy, which was a little surprising because, from what I've learned from being around here and from the whispers that having a baby outside of the mate bond wasn't all that common, that even though people fooled around, they usually only mated with their fated mate.
According to mom and Shawn, she and Shawn are mates and daddy, and mom weren't. But, no one had mentioned anything hostile or even the slightest disapproval about me being around, even though I was a product of something that wasn't seen conventionally here. If this was earth and this whole mate thing was a norm there, mom would probably be scorned, and I would probably even get bullied growing up. I was broken out of my thoughts when I felt Kai poking me. I looked up at him.
"Where are you lost Rora?" He asked.
"I have a question..." looking at him, he told me to go on, "... from the whispers I've been hearing, and with how mom and dad described things, it's not common to have a kid outside of the mate bond. Just like on earth, it's not common to have a child out of wedlock, and some people have to face a lot of criticism if they do end up conceiving. So why is everyone so welcoming? If this were earth, there would be a fifty-fifty majority with some nice and rude comments going around, but till now, everyone has been nothing but nice." I asked, genuinely curious.
Kai just smiled and stopped in his tracks; that had me stopping as well.
"They know it isn't your fault, Rora, nor mom's; yeah, there is still a minority who, till this day, hold a grudge over mom for her doing that to dad, but as I said, it's a minority. You don't need to worry. No one will bully you here. You, after all, have alpha blood running in you and an heir to the pack." Kai said, squeezing my shoulder in reassurance.
Kai knew me the best; it wasn't like I was bullied growing up, but I did get the subtle taunts once in a while about mom and dad's situation; they were divorced, they had me, and not long after that, mom left. I didn't want to go through that again and that with werewolves; from what I've learned over here, these guys are pretty emotional and can act irrationally. And, with their tall as hell heights and athletic bodies, I didn't want any trouble, especially since my so-called Lycan was repressed. In comparison to everyone around, I was the average human who could get her ass handed to her if she messed with the wrong person. But the look Kai was giving me helped me calm down; I knew he wouldn't lie to me, to make me feel better or safe; he was always honest regardless of the situation. Well, at least I thought he was till he started spewing all that supernatural crap, but that backflipped back to me; he was even telling the truth then.
The rest of the day, he showed me the rest of the pack; he showed me the town square where there were all kinds of cozy cafes, some clothing stores and other stuff. He showed me the different schools and daycare; it was like a small town, and it was adorable. He even showed me the Crescent Moon pack that was mom and aunt Beth's home pack, and my jaw was on the floor; the entire pack was like a city, with huge buildings, malls, and even high-end brand stores like Gucci, Dolce and Gabanna etc., had outlets there. According to Kai, the Crescent Moon was the strongest pack in the multiverse. So, when mom mated to Shawn, Crescent Moon and Crescent Fang were combined, since Shawn was an only child and couldn't give up his position to become the alpha of Crescent Moon, and Aunt Beth, mated to the former beta of the wolf kingdom king, so he couldn't leave his position to become alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack, so they combined both packs making mom and Shawn, alpha and luna of the Crescent Fang pack, which is the largest and strongest in the wolf kingdom now.
Nevertheless, if I took out all the mumbo-jumbo facts Kai drilled into my brain today about the packs and how hierarchy and ranks work, the day was not so bad. I even made a friend named Alicia, who I met in the pack hospital; she had just come back to Wolf Kingdom after finishing her MD at Yale School of Medicine and was going to work at the royal hospital come Monday alongside me. That bit of information had me over the moon; at least I'd have a friendly face around. Also, I didn't know how things still worked around here, so having someone who was raised among our kind would be helpful. Not to mention she was the sweetest person I ever met, we hit it off right of the bat.
Now we were sitting in Kai's Ferrari on our way back to Crescent Fang packhouse for dinner. Kai had mentioned that nana, papa and even aunt Beth would be joining us. I was excited; the last time I saw aunt Beth was years ago, but we constantly texted and called one another whenever given a chance. Which I find a little weird now; how did we talk on the phone when we were in a different galaxy altogether? My brain was starting to hurt with all these random unanswered questions. I wanted to ask, but I honestly couldn't digest any more supernatural mumbo jumbo, so I decided to leave it for tomorrow's trivia I would play with Kai or mom.
"So, how'd you like the tour of your new home, Rora?" Asked Kai
I turned to him and smiled.
"It wasn't all that bad, a little strange because it looks so much like earth, but the fact that people can explode into giant wolfy Lycan has my brain tingling, but I liked it. Plus, I like Alicia," I said.
Kai laughed and shook his head; the rest of the way home, we stayed in a comfortable silence as I dozed off, looking at the beautiful scenery.
