Alex was still missing as I searched the crowded lunch room for him. His normal table was crowded with the lacrosse players, but his usual seat was filled by Matt, who was smiling at me across the room. I awkwardly smiled back and gave him a little wave, suddenly missing the cold stares or smirks that Alex gave me, they didn’t require me to fake any sort of friendliness. I don't even know why I was wasting my time looking for him, Kyle had already told me he wasn't here.
I groaned as the bell signalled the end of lunch. Gathering my belongings, I dragged my feet to the science lab, knowing Alex would still be missing and I would be stuck doing the entire lab by myself. Or maybe I’d get lucky and they’d assign me a new partner in his absence. Walking into class though, I halted in my steps
