Kadmiel sat at home watching his favorite series when someone opened the door.
“Anyone home” August asked walking in with James holding their luggage.
“Aunt you came back?” Kadmiel ran to her, August was quite happy to see him, she bent down and hugged him tightly. She became so emotional allowing tears to drop from her eyes, the last time she saw him he was six years younger and now he had grown so much that she almost didn’t recognize him.
“I promised you I would come back right” She gave him a beautiful smile of joy, she was indeed glad to be back and reunited with her family. Kadmiel was also happy that she kept her promise to him, he seemed to notice a pair of fancy shoes when he hugged her, he raised his head and saw a tall man staring down at him with long brown hair to his shoulders, stern but handsome face and broad shoulders.
“Who is he?” He pointed at him,
“Oh, that’s your uncle James, he is my husband” August introduced.
“You are married and you didn’t inform me” Kadmiel had seen James twice but never took heed of who he was to the family. Right now he saw James as a man who was trying to steal his favourite aunt away from him.
“Hi Kadmiel, the last time I saw you, you were five years old” James also bent to talk to him, he didn’t want him to strain his neck while looking up to him.
“He looks a lot like uncle Raphael and even talks like him” Kadmiel said to August.
“Yeah, he technically raised Raphael” August answered remembering the old times when they were all together, Raphael had always been by her side like a good friend.
“By the way, where is everybody?” August seemed to notice that Dylan neither Anabel were around, all she saw were the guards who were protecting the house, even Raphael wasn’t home.
“Mom and dad would be back soon and uncle Raphael is at the agency” Kadmiel replied stuffing his little hands into his pocket and confronting James.
“Mister, I don’t like you and we are going to have a long history of fighting and nagging” he threatened making August laugh so hard, he looked just like Dylan but a smaller version of him.
James was dumbstruck not knowing what to say to him, this tiny little boy was challenging him even when he knew how close he was to his aunt.
“What!” He recollected Kadmiel words after a short moment of shock.
“I don’t like you mister, take it or leave it” Kadmiel ushered August twisting his face at James while watching his every step.
Once they sat down, the door opened again and Dylan and Anabel walked in.
“Mom, dad. Aunt and that man is back” Kadmiel said running to them, he refused to identify James as his uncle making James slightly sad.
“What a pleasant surprise” Anabel embraced August, it was so nice to her again.
“Well you have grown” she complimented, her hands were on August’s face squeezing her cheeks and making her smile like a sheep. Now she had a companion who she could talk to sometimes if she was tired of being alone and missed Dylan’s presence.
Meanwhile Dylan and James stood together with little Kadmiel in between them, he could see their mouths moving but he couldn’t hear what they were saying.
“Why does she look skinny?” Dylan asked, he was concerned that August must have starved herself to look flawless because of her profession, he couldn’t blame her for it so he had to blame the man who was supposed to take care of her.
“Uhhmm, it’s just work and stress. She has been really cooked up the past years” James’ answer saved him from another round of questioning, he crossed his hands wishing Dylan would not notice another factor on August and question him again.
“It is good to see you James” Dylan said not looking at him, they always had a strange way of interacting with each other.
“Big brother” August turned her attention towards Dylan, he willingly spread his arms to hug her into a tight embrace, he had missed his little sister but wouldn’t express it in words only actions.
“I missed you” she reworded and he patted her head smiling uniquely.
“Nice to see you James, Thank you for taking good care of her” Anabel gave him a slight hug and immediately pulled back when Dylan touched her hands, he was still possessive over her and she knew it.
“We have a lot to discuss Anabel” August informed ready to set her mouth running from all the experiences she had in Barcelona.
Something else seem to catch thier attention as everyone turned towards the news.
{The Newscaster}
“It has been disclosed to us that a new s*x trafficking syndicate has been apprehended with hundreds of girls and boys who seem underage have been rescued by the police, the culprit has been put behind bars but he claim to be the underdog and someone else more influential than him was in charge”
A man suddenly appeared on the screen held down by a cop,
“I was only following orders” he repeated each words until he was pushed into the car.
“The police are trying their best to find out who is behind it and promise to take them down to make the city safe again but in the mean time, please keep your children safe because there would be a curfew by nine today to apprehend other offenders.
That’s the news we have for you today” The newscaster broadcasted.
August became sad recalling all that she had to go through when she was abducted, she sympathized with those kids because she knew how it felt to be abused against your will,
James held her hand strengthening her, without uttering a word she understood that he was there for her and so was Dylan and Anabel.
“So people are still involved in this kind of act” Anabel was distressed, she couldn’t shake off the fact that there were still people out there who fancied toying with underage kids.
“I hope they find the main mastermind and kill him, he doesn’t deserve to go to jail” August spoke out with anger from the bottom of heart.
“Sometimes they do, but once this people pay money to them the police would turn a blind eye to it and walk away” Anabel corrected, the state of the police in Rome was very poor that no one confided in the cops anymore. Everyone could do what they wanted after they must have paid them a huge sum of money.
Dylan sat down quietly crossing his leg, he tapped his legs with each fingers thinking deeply.
“Kadmiel, it’s time to sleep” Anabel instructed him and he obediently followed, before he left, he pointed his two fingers at his eyes and then at James.
James was taken aback, ‘Was this kid really serious’ he thought. He reminded him of a young Dylan who always looked for trouble when he was slightly provoked.
August followed them to bid goodnight to her nephew, it was something she longed to do.
“Mom, I would love to start school again” Kadmiel said after he had climbed his bed, his words stunned her, she had tried persuading him countless times to do so but he preferred home training, she wondered what could have changed his mind.
“What happened?” She asked,
“Nothing, I guess it is time to associate with others, if they end up not liking me, I will avoid them but if anyone dares me then I would bully them” He answered.
“Are you sure you are going there to learn or cause trouble?” Anabel reconsidered his reason.
“Both” he replied and waved at August standing by the door.
“I wanted to wish him goodnight” she let out walking closer to them, Anabel gave them space returning back to the living room.
“Good night Aunt” Kadmiel greeted first,
August looked around his room and found a picture of him and her together, it warmed her heart making her smile.
“I got you something” she pulled out a gift from her pocket and gave it to him,
“I had forgotten to give it to you earlier”
He opened it and found an exquisite pen, “Thank you aunt, did uncle James bring anything for me?” He asked, not forgetting that he could get double gifts.
“I thought you said you don’t like him” she teased,
“I was only kidding, I have heard a lot about him from uncle Raphael about how he always protected dad but when I saw him today, he looked grumpy, I just figured I should pester him because he doesn’t seem to smile a lot” Kadmiel confessed to her.
“I guess you are right, but when you get to know him more you would see him smile more often, you know he was really looking forward to meeting you”
“Really”
“Yeah”
“Well that’s too bad” Kadmiel sighed, he may have messed up the expectations James had of him.
