Chapter 9

Carl's POV

"Do you want to come as well?" I asked Layla who is still on couch watching TV

"No!" She answered without even looking at me.

I looked around and made sure no one was around us. I always wanted to talk to her personally. I wanted to know what interests her and what doesn’t. To know her more. And how is life going on for her.. She might be six years younger but the fact that she is going to be my mate in future makes it an automated urge to protect her.

But to do so, I need to know her more. Because of family always around us, I don't get much time to talk to her.

"Tell me something," I paused looking at her confused face, "Don't you like to pack things? Or you're just not into it?"

"I don't know Carl" she sighed as she turned to her left to face me completely.

"I just - I sometimes feel like my heart doesn't belong here" she paused and looked around just like I did.

I smiled to myself looking at it.

"I just wanna explore. I wanna see the world beyond just werewolves and human territories. I want to build my life the way I want. I know I'm too young to be saying this but - that's just how I feel inside. Trapped" she whispered.

I couldn't answer what she said. This is the first time she ever said something to me. And that too this kinda sounds huge to me. I am not against her wanting to travel and explore the world but, she is also the future Luna of Bloodmoon Pack and The Werewolf Queen. I doubt if she can do what she dreams about.

"Can that happen?" She asked me, looking into my eyes.

Her chocolate eyes are reading my baby blues. I just can't help but smile at how innocent she looks and she is.

"I'm not sure. But I'll try my best to make it happen" I whispered with a smile.

"Thank you Carl!" She squealed.

"Oh wow!! Someone seems so happy" Aunt Abigail laughed as soon as she entered the living room.

"Momma!!" Layla squealed again and hugged her Mom.

Uncle Kevin followed Aunt Abigail to the living room and Layla squealed again. Now that I observed, I haven't seen her this smiley or squealey ever since she's born.

"We'll be back after the surprise event again. Go to your room pumpkin. You got school tomorrow" Aunt Abigail said, which made Layla nod and walk to her room.

"Thanks," Aunt Abigail whispered with a smile as soon as Layla left our sight.

"For?" I asked back.

"She seems happy. I don't know why. She was talking to you by the time we came. So I take it as your work" she shrugged simply.

"Alright! Not gonna make this an emotional event cuz I suck at it. Where's your mom?" She asked, making me laugh.

I pointed upstairs so she took the hint and walked to the kitchen. When Dad and Mom are together, no one even thinks of walking to that room. Anything might be happening you know?

"Hey, but I'm still watching you" Uncle Kevin said pointing his two fingers to his eyes and then me.

I took it and he just warned me about Layla. So I awkwardly laughed, making him laugh as well.

"So.. you guys are excited?" Dad asked coming downstairs.

"Oh yeah actu-"

"Derek you asshole give me my earrings before I -" Mom yelled but as soon as she saw all of us in living room she just smiled awkwardly and walked to Dad.

"Sorry" Dad muttered before giving her earrings.

"How did those get in your pocket anyway?" Uncle Kevin asked.

"Oh! He doesn't like these but only these match with my outfit today. So he stole them while I was doing my hair" Mom said glaring at dad.

"Alright!! You boys can leave. We'll be there soon" Aunt Abigail said, walking to my Mom.

They are such best friends that I still wonder about the tolerating power of Aunt Abigail's wolf around my mom since she is a bloodsucker.

"Okay" Dad and Uncle Kevin said in unison.

We three started walking towards the clearing they mentioned where our surprise event was happening. What might it be?

"If it's your pack running thing or something like that, I'm sorry but I tap out" Raul said.

I didn't pay him any attention as I walked trying to catch up with Dad and Uncle Kevin's pace. In a few minutes we reached there and there was barbeque, lots of food, tables and chairs to sit covered in red cloth but one table in white that I took for the high ranks which is us.

A stage obviously for announcements as to why this is being conducted too.

I quickly walked to the food table and grabbed myself a piece of chocolate cake. Whoever invented this, I bet is in Heaven!

I walked around still with Goggles but no one's really paying attention since they were all busy bowing to me.

By the time I walked to the table again, Dad was looking at Mom with a smirk while Mom just tried to hide a smile behind her glare. That was when I noticed that she changed her earrings.

I smiled looking at my parents. Derek Malloy and Cartia Malloy. Often called as the powerful couple since they were born King and Queen and weren't just trained for the title. It's in their blood.

"King! Queen! Prince!" Oliver bowed as soon as he got on stage.

"C'mon Man!" Dad said with a playful laugh.

Oliver Parrish is the only son of Elijah Parrish who is a good friend of Grandpa and also the best Gamma the pack's got. His wife Rebecca is now the one to take up the position of a member of the Supernatural council position.

"So... Yay! Surprise!!" He awkwardly said while we all including the crowd giggled.

"So yeah, Prince.. May I have your presence?" Oliver asked me to stand up from my seat and walk to the stage.

"I don't feel good for some reason bud" Raul said.

But before I knew I was on stage facing the crowd. Just as Raul said that, my heart started beating fast as if something is just not right.

"Belated Happy Birthday by the way" Oliver said, making me smile.

But still, my heart is just going crazy.!

"Since we missed your first shift, we arranged this as a surprise!! After this party, is the pack's run. We all want to see your wolf" Oliver revealed the reason and the whole crowd erupted to cheers.

I looked at my family in horror not knowing what to do. Thank Goodness for the goggles that no one can actually see the tension in my eyes. My world kinda stopped for a second.

What if they find out I'm just a bloodsucker?
