CHAPTER FIVE

LUCIA

Oh god! I’m so stupid! I can’t believe I just made a fool of myself in front of Zara , fake barbie , Mrs. Arlington, but above all, in front of Joshua. The first time we met in three years and this is how I decide to be remembered, definitely not a great first impression, I want to slap myself in the face.

I was going back home from the university and was deep in thought when I recognized Zara and Kate’s voices, - whom I like to call “fake barbie” because she literally looks like one , tall , tanned , with the longest legs I have seen in my life , tiny waist and huge silicon boobs , big green eyes , a perfect set of teeth and of course long blonde hair , she is one of those girls who makes all the men turn to watch her with admiration and the girls with jealousy.

They were accompanied by a male voice I didn't recognize, but I didn’t look around to check who it was, instead , I tried to hurry up and leave before they could see me, but of course , I have to be the clumsiest person on the planet and tripped over a flowerpot, I tried to catch the damn thing but it shattered in a million pieces before I could even get a hold of it.

Zara didn’t waste a second before she started giving me a lecture and rubbing on my face all of the things her family has done for mine and that’s when I saw him , Joshua , I hadn’t looked twice in his way because I didn’t recognize him at first , but when my eyes landed on his blue ones , I froze , he has definitely changed , he is a lot taller than three years ago, and since he was wearing a bit of a tight t-shirt, it was easy to see that he now has broad shoulders and a muscular torso, along with some tattoos covering part of his arms and I think I saw a couple more creeping out of the collar of his shirt, he must have done it while he was at boarding school because there is no way his father would have allowed that.

His face features are now sharper, with a strong jawline , straight nose , and meaty lips , although he still has those damn dimples on his cheeks that I used to adore; his hair is a little shorter now so he doesn’t have those soft curls he used to when we were kids, but is still a light brown almost dark blonde. My God, he is hot, way too hot for my peace of mind.

I know I promised Mia that I wouldn’t let myself get involved with him again, and I was pretty sure that it was going to be an easy task, given everything he had put me through in the past, but then I saw him , and it wasn’t helping the fact that he was defending me against his sister’s attacks, just like old times.

I just need to stay away from him as far as I can, he is trouble , I know it , he knows it , his family knows too and that’s why they have been covering his mess for the last couple of years.

Yes, you may be wondering how do I know these things? Well, my mom has a great set of ears, and his father it's not particularly quiet when he is upset, so she has listened to some things about alcohol , drugs , vandalism, parties, and so on, I know she purposely leaves the gruesome things out because she is a very religious person and maybe she thinks that is a sin even saying that kind of stuff out loud, but you get the idea: He is bad news and that’s the last thing I need right now.

I spent the rest of the weekend at home, studying, reading romance novels, playing with Ben, and doing almost every single thing I could possibly make without having to leave the house. It seems a lot like hiding but I’m not, its just a very wise move in order to prevent running into Zara or worst: Joshua.

It's been hard trying to focus on a single thing when all I can think about is Joshua, ugh! I think I need an intervention, well more like a 'Miavention' so I call Mia and fill her in about what happened at the manor's entrance, she is extremely curious about the whole dynamics between the Arlington's family , so I just tell her a couple of things and anecdotes about my life and hot it is living here on their state.

“ Is he really that good looking? ” she asks with a giggle

“ More! he looks like he escaped from a freaking Calvin Klein ad ” I say rolling my eyes “ what am I going to do Mia? ”

“ Haha you are asking the wrong person Lu, I have never been in a relationship before, and certainly not with a Calvin Klein model” she answers now fully laughing at me.

“ Thanks for the help! ” I respond rolling my eyes.

“ Any time! ” she answers and then we hang up the phone.

Well, I guess I just need to avoid everything that involves him , it shouldn’t be a problem , I mean , we are not in the same circle , we don’t share any common interest and he has just came back from a three - year stay in Europe , how hard could it be?

When I get to the campus on Monday there is some sort of commotion outside the main cafeteria , a lot of people , mostly girls , are gathered around something or someone , It makes me a bit curious but then I glance at my phone and realize I’m late to my first lecture, so I try to avoid the crowd, but then I see Mia pushing her way out of the circle of people with an annoyed expression.

“ f*****g morons! ” she exclaims shaking her head “ all that fuss just for a politician’s son , like he was Dumbledore or something, ugh! ”

" The son of who? ” I ask her laughing at her expression.

“ The Governor’s son , I think ” she responds, and I feel my whole body go rigid.

And at that moment , someone turns around leaving a small gap in the circle where a straight line of vision opens up revealing Joshua , standing there looking at me with a smirk.
