CHAPTER 7: KISS AND RUN

1502 Words
LILAC Blake quickly stood, as did Mike, right after his pack member informed them of the attack. My mind spiraled in fear of what might happen, but at the same time, a part of me wanted to see him again. “How many people are guarding your territory?” Blake asked, already on high alert. “Definitely not enough to stop them. The others were with Alpha Rupert, and I’m not sure how fast they could arrive here.” Blake let out a growl before looking at me. There was fear in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared and was replaced with determination. “They can’t reach the pack house. Cordelia, please stay here.” I grabbed his hand before he could turn away. “But I might be able to help. Let me help, Blake.” A part of me was genuinely trying to help, and another simply wanted to meet that man. Maybe I would be able to talk to him to stop the attack. He motioned the rest to go ahead before responding to me. “No, Cordelia, this isn’t the right time to be stubborn. That person is dangerous. They attack other packs, stealing and killing other werewolves without remorse. If he happens to know that you’re here, he will do everything to get you. I doubt that you forgot what happened last time you saw him.” “Okay,” I uttered in defeat. They promptly left, and I was left alone in the receiving area. I tapped my foot impatiently. In the end, I couldn’t sit still like Blake wished me to. I looked around to find another way out. They will surely notice if I step out from where we entered. I trusted my instincts and managed to find another way out. Unfortunately, I had already encountered an enemy not even five steps out. A creepy smile immediately stamped on his face. “I know you. You’re the white wolf, aren’t you?” His eyes changed, and it became similar to a lizard’s eyes. All the hair on my body rose in fear. “I’m… I’m not,” I managed to utter what probably is the most ridiculous denial in the world. His eyes went back to normal after my denial. “You’re not?” “Of course not! I’m a totally average werewolf, brown fur and all.” Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would work, but I might actually be able to fool him. “Then what about your hair? Only the white wolf has that.” I pointed to my hair, “Oh, this? No, I just had it dyed. You know, at a salon. My stylist is great. I could give you her number.” “Do I look like I’m in the mood for a makeover? I’m here to attack your pack!” He exclaimed and charged towards me. I shrieked, but my body moved on instincts, and I kicked him right in the face. He stumbled but regained his balance.  “Oh my god, I didn’t mean that. Are you alright?” I asked in pure panic. He laughed, “You hit me, and you ask me if I’m alright? You b***h—” he couldn’t continue his cussing. He suddenly stumbled and fell face-first on the ground, totally knocked out. I ran away before he regained consciousness. I didn’t know where I was running, but I continued doing so, trusting nothing but this overwhelming feeling in my chest. I halted when I saw the demon alpha running towards me. My heart synced with his steps, and all I could do was watch him. He jumped over me, making us fall. Okay, that wasn’t what I was expecting to happen. I closed my eyes, expecting pain, but he cushioned our fall. Before I could react, an arrow hit the tree right behind me. It could have hit me if he hadn’t jumped on me. He saved me. The demon alpha quickly got up and pulled me away. I knew deep inside that I shouldn’t, but I let him drag me without question. We headed near the pack house, probably to avoid the fight. He glared at me, but I didn’t feel fear. Instead, I saw desire, and it quickly made my knees weaken. “What is this feeling?” I asked and met his eyes.  He kissed me in response to my question. I almost dropped to my knees, but he grabbed my waist to keep me still. My mind blanked out for a second, but I found myself responding to his kisses. I felt my back touch the wall. He growled under his breath and cupped my face before kissing me again. I gasped when he licked my lower lip, clearly asking for entrance. “Wait. Please don’t hurt this pack,” I muttered and managed to push him away before we did something more. I was catching my breath as I spoke. My whole body felt hot, especially my face. He looked as dazed as I was when we parted, but he immediately recovered and backed away even more. I heard enough about his reputation, and he’s the only one who can stop his people from attacking. “Do you even know why we’re targeting this pack?” He answered with a monotonous tone while roaming his eyes around. I slowly shook my head, “I don’t know, but stealing and killing people is wrong.” “This pack’s alpha killed two of my people. Not even the ones who could fight for themselves. They kill demons because they think we don’t matter at all. This place deserves to burn to the ground. It’s the least that I could do.” My eyes widened. There was bitterness in his voice, not because he lost a fight but because he lost his people. I held his hand, “I didn’t know, but this is still not right. Hate spawns more hate. If you get back at them, they will just do the same. It’ll be an unending cycle.” “Don’t speak like you’re not used to this world. You’ll be eaten alive if you don’t fight.” He muttered. His eyes were glowing in anger. I could feel not only his anger but the pain of loss and the guilt it brings for not being able to protect the people he cares for.  “But I’m not. I’m not used to this.” I’ve heard and seen death more in a week here than in my entire life. They weren’t humans, but the emotions I felt from him weren’t so different from human emotions. I don’t even know how I’m feeling his emotions or how I know they’re his, but all I know is that it was so painful, like everything in me was being torn apart. “Why are you crying?” His question made me laugh, “It’s because of you. I’m crying because it was so painful, but you can’t cry for yourself. I’m so sorry that you have to feel this.” It was his turn to be surprised. He definitely knew what I was talking about. He extended his hand, and I thought he would touch me, but he stopped himself. “Twice is enough. The next time we meet, I won’t be lenient with you.” He walked away from me and was about to go, but I remembered something. “Wait.” He glared at me, “I’m already sparing this pack. What else do you want?” I smiled and wiped my tears away. “Thank you for hearing me out. Can I at least get your name? No one told me your name.” Another confused look was darted at me, but I didn’t budge and simply waited for his response. “Seth. My name is Seth.” He averted my gaze as he spoke. “I’m Li... I’m called Cordelia.” I stuttered, almost telling him my real name. Seth didn’t respond. He took something from his pocket and threw it upwards. It created a small explosion, leaving deep blue smoke in the sky. “Oh, and before I forget-” “What is it this time?!” He exclaimed in annoyance. I chuckled awkwardly, “The guy with lizard eyes. I accidentally knocked him out when he tried to attack me. I’m sorry.” “That dumb snake.” He muttered and quickly disappeared. I sat on the ground, not minding the dust underneath. “He kissed and run…” I mumbled and touched my lips. I could still feel his lips on mine and recalled how I responded to his kisses ever so willingly. It feels… nice but also daunting, like it would consume me whole and still, I’m more than willing to jump then fall. A huge part of me wanted Seth to go back and take me. I might be losing my mind, but is he also feeling this way?
