Rose's POV...
It's been over a year and a half since the incident at the beach house, but to me, everything still felt so fresh in my mind because I couldn't stop thinking about all of it, most especially the hooded figure with the eyes so captivating.
I also couldn't stop thinking about what would become of Keith and if those prison walls were strong enough to hold a beast like him.
But Zena constantly reprimands me, telling me to let go of the past and focus on the future, but can I truly let go of those scars? Can I really bring my mind out of the constant misery Keith's torture has put them into?
I knew I was finally away from my darkness with a new identity and a new life. This was supposed to be a fresh start, right, a new beginning, but why doesn't it feel that way? Why does the fear of the unknown constantly feed deep into me, not giving me a chance to breathe?
I spent most of my days on the run, moving from city to city, never settling in one place, always running from my past, even when it looked like I was finally free from the clutches of my demon husband. I still felt like I was in chains, constantly afraid, day and night, that he might find me, and take me back.
“Ugh, "I screamed to myself.
Who knew being dead would be so very difficult and lonely because even my sister had to stay far away from me, so as not to raise any suspicion.” I said to myself as I sighed in frustration as I got off the bus I was traveling on.
“My next stop is A New City.”
I hope this one will feel like home to me, and I won't have to keep running," I said to myself as I walked into the opening street, which was bustling with busy people walking in such a hurry and also cars rushing to their destination.
“This is such a huge city," I said to myself as I continued looking around and walking totally oblivious to where I was going.
After walking for almost 3 hours around the city, I was super exhausted and it was gradually getting dark.
So I decided to find a place to rest and also find some food as I was very hungry.
Glancing around the unknown area with the sun slowly setting, I didn't know where I was now.
''Goddamnit, I was freaking lost," I screamed to myself as I took out the map of the city, trying to find my way.
''Looking at the map felt like forever, with no knowledge of how to navigate my way, I knew I was done for, totally done for," I growled to myself as I took in a deep breath trying to calm my racing heart.
“Hey, you look like you are lost," I soon heard a female voice say as I quickly turned around to see who it was.
It was a brunette lady with glassy eyes and a cute smile. She looked maybe two years younger than I am.
Yes, I think I am. Can you help me? " I begged.
Most definitely, so where are you going to exactly," she asked, smiling.
“Uhmmm... That's the problem, I don't know," I said, and the girl looked at me all weirdly.
“I'm new to the city, my name is Tyler, Tyler Cain," I said quickly before she would think I was a psychopath.
Oh, I should have guessed, my name is Eve, Eve Rivers," she said, extending her hand for a handshake.
''Nice to meet you, Eve," I smiled back.
''And, same here Tyler," she replied, and there was this slight pang in my chest as she mentioned my fake identity.
'I would never be used to that name,' I mumbled to myself.
''Anyways, Tyler, since you are new to this city and you don't know much, you can stay at my apartment until you find your footing," she let out, breaking me out of my invading thoughts.
''No, I don't want to impose, you can just point me in the direction of a hotel," I replied.
'' Hell no girl, how polite would I be if I didn't take care of you? It's your first time in this city. Allow me to show you our hospitality," she insisted.
Looking at her, she looked so kind and helpful that I couldn't resist.
''Okay, Eve, I accept," I smiled back.
That's amazing, let's go then," she said, urging me to walk with her.
We walked for a while, and soon enough we got to an apartment building.
My apartment is on the 4th floor," Eve said as we walked up the long flight of stairs.
Reaching the 4th floor and getting to a door, she stopped opening the door.
“This is it, my humble abode," she went on, urging me to take a seat.
''Make yourself comfortable, while I make dinner and get you a drink," she smiled, walking into the kitchen.
Taking my seat, I looked around the nicely decorated apartment. It wasn't that big but it was nicely done.
Your place is beautiful," I said out loud as I looked through her decorated table stand.
Thank you Tyler, I try my best to keep everything together. I'm an interior designer for a company here, so finding new pieces to decorate with wasn't that hard," she explained as she handed me a beer.
So, Tyler tell me, why are you in the city, and how long are you planning on staying for," she asked.
Taking in a deep breath, I couldn't tell her the truth. I couldn't tell her that I'm always on the run now. I couldn't tell her that I was currently running away from a monster, she would think I was weird, so I smiled and told her the next best thing was.
'' I'm just exploring new things, really hoping this city will be good for me," I grinned as I continued to play with my fingers.
''Oh, that's so good, and trust me, when you finally see what the city has to offer, you won't want to continue your adventure elsewhere," she smirked as she walked back into the kitchen.
I let out a whiff, as I stood up and walked over to the window which oversees the whole city.
I didn't know how long I would be staying in this city, but I would be here for as long as my darkness doesn't come for me.
