Rose POV...
The days leading up to my escape were the worst ones yet. Keith's attitude towards me became even worse.
As he was always on edge, jumping at any slightest sound and drowning himself more in alcohol, and that was when I knew for sure that he was hiding something.
Something major was happening and it was getting him more worked up than usual, and as always, he took out his frustration on me.
So when I tried asking him what the matter was, he only unleashed his fiery wrath more upon me, pushing me to the side.
But there was only one thing keeping me going and that was the thought of me finally getting my freedom.
Just 5 days, I had to hold on," I kept on saying to myself.
........................................................
"It was finally time, day 5 was here," I said to myself as I paced back and forth the room with my heart thumping in uncertainty.
I didn't know what plans Zena had to get me out of here, but I trusted her completely.
So I waited patiently for the call that would change my life forever.
"Hours had passed but still nothing from Zena," I cried to myself, allowing the anxiety to kick in.
"She was going to call soon, she promised to help me," I reassured myself as I continued my nervous pacing.
But hours continued to pass by so swiftly, and still nothing from her.
“Ugh.... this can't be happening " I groaned in frustration, downing a glass of brandy to suit my never-ending nerves.
"Boom!" I soon heard a crashing sound coming from downstairs in the living room which sent me into total panic.
"Was Keith on one of his crazy rampages? Or was he in a bad mood again? Maybe he was coming to take it out on me," I thought to myself as I allowed the negative thoughts to invade my body and mind.
Shivering at the thought of Keith coming up here to take his anger out on me, I decided it was for the best to sneak to the back of the house, to hide from the monster.
Slowly and swiftly, I made my way down the stairs carefully, walking lightly so as not to draw any attention to myself as I looked around to make sure he wasn't close by.
All of a sudden, someone grabbed me from behind, covering my mouth with its hands, and I was sent into total panic as fear consumed my mind.
"Was this the end? Had the time finally come for me to be one with my darkness," I cried to myself as I continued to struggle, hoping I could free myself from my captor.
But it was of no use. I was powerless and my captor was stronger, holding me firmly in its strong hands.
Swiftly but steadily, my captor swung me around in one single second, making me look at its unfamiliar face covered with a mask.
Shuddering in fear, I looked closely at my captor's face.
"Those eyes!" I said to myself.
They were so intense, just like a magnet drawing me into it, and I wasn't resisting its pull.
Still, in my shaky form, I didn't know what I was doing, it was like my body took over immediately and at that moment all I wanted to do was to know who had those eyes calling out to me behind that mask.
I moved closer to my captor, attempting to remove his mask, but I was stopped immediately as the captor held onto my hand.
Those eyes looked at me for what felt like an eternity, and I was fine with it. Although scared, I didn't want to look away, as I kept on drowning further in the eyes of this unknown stranger.
Soon enough, the hooded figure looked away, setting me free from its hold, as the stranger let go of my hand, taking a step back, trying to create some distance between us.
A few seconds later, the hooded figure soon looked up at me again, saying in an intimidating but calming voice.
"When he wakes up, tell him his debt will be paid in blood next time," the hooded person said, walking out immediately.
Still dazed by the captivating presence of the hooded figure, I couldn't believe what had just happened as I looked around the living room in fear.
My wandering gaze soon fell on Keith, who was lying flat on the floor unconscious.
Gripped with fear, I ran over to his side, touching him to see if he was still alive.
He had a pulse but he was out cold, the hooded figure must have done this to him," I screamed to myself as I looked around addled.
Confused as to what next to do... this wasn't the plan, right, " I asked myself, pacing back and forth in the living room with my heart threatening to jump out of my chest.
Still looking at Keith's unconscious body, I felt a slight tap on my shoulder and my heart sunk even further.
Turning around shaking like a leaf in the wind, I saw Zena staring back at me and immediately a smooth wave of relief overtook me as I lunged toward her, giving her a tight hug.
"Someone else was here," I said, sobbing hard now.
Calm down, Rose... I knew that" She said, hugging me again.
“I just saw a suspicious van driving out of here on my way in. I couldn't stop it because I don't have jurisdiction here," she said calmly as she ran her fingers through my hair.
''So what are we going to do now? The hooded figure did something to Keith," I said, wiping off my tears.
''Yeah, I can see that," she giggled a bit, enjoying Keith's predicament.
But that doesn't matter now, all we have to do is to take hold of this opportunity. Keith is unconscious so we have to make our move now," Zena said as she stooped down to inject something into Keith's arm.
"That would hold him out for a while longer until we are far away from here," Zena looked at me, her eyes assuring me that everything would be alright.
Soon Zena started scattering the living room, breaking chairs and mirrors, tearing up books, and ripping off the curtains. She soon took hold of my hand and said to me.
“Rose, this is going to hurt a bit," She said as she cut into my skin with a knife, making my blood drip onto the floor as much as possible, and also dripping more onto the white carpet, staircase, and on Keith's hands.
Cleaning the bottom of the knife, she placed it on Keith's already bloody hands.
She soon took scissors, cutting off a huge chunk of my hair too, scattering it all over the place, starting from the bedroom down to the living room.
Finishing her deeds, she looked up at me, saying.
"Now go get everything valuable you can lay your on," she said to me and I nodded, shaking in response.
Moments later, I was done packing, and I made my way down to meet her.
"Zena, are you sure that this is going to work," I asked, nervously, not knowing if I was doing the right thing.
"God Rose, this is what we have been planning for all this while. It will work," Zena assured me.
'' We are done here, Rose, let's go," she said as she pulled me over to the door with me still looking back at my husband who had become my worst nightmare and now my horrible past.
And with that, in no time, we were on our way out. We took the back door to avoid any suspicion and soon enough, I was on my way to freedom.
