CHAPTER 5 - Movie Date

1671 Words
“You promised to watch the movie tonight with me,” Adam said, reminding her when Harper told him to leave again. Harper let out a deep sigh, “Maybe next time, Adam. I’m not in the mood right now.” She said while pushing him out to the door. “Wait…Harper…” They both suddenly fell silent after they saw Taylor in the door. “What are you doing here, dimwit?” Adam snarled at him. His blood boils at the sight of him. Taylor raked his messy hair before he looked back at her. “Harper, we need to talk…” He said, ignoring Adam’s presence. “Only in your dream!” Adam was ready to beat him all over again, but Harper quickly held his hands. “Adam, it’s okay…Let us talk,” Harper said, as she smiled at him. “I’ll wait outside…” Adam said as he threw Taylor a killing look. Taylor didn’t dare to look at Harper directly. “You said you wanted to talk…I don’t have the whole night, Taylor!” Harper said coldly. “Look…I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to hurt you yesterday.” She saw at his bruised face. It now had turned into bluish color. Seems like Adam had beat him into a pulp last night. “Do you realize what you just did, Taylor? You basically had ruined our friendship!” Harper shouted at him. The guilt on his face was clearly shown. “Please forgive me, Harper. I don’t want to lose our friendship. I felt so lost without you.” He pleaded. Harper also liked Taylor, only as her best friend. They had shared almost everything, and he was her number one supporter. “But, I never see you in that way, Taylor. You were like a brother to me.” She replied with a lowered voice. Taylor raised her chin with his finger softly, making her eyes met with his. “I understand, Harper. If that’s what you want, then I would do as you wish.” He said, half smiling. Taylor just lied to himself. He always wanted her more than just a friend. “Thank you, Taylor…” Harper replied with brimming eyes. She was glad that they could rekindle their relationship. Taylor hugged her tightly in his chest. Maybe he should wait for some more time for her to accept him as her boyfriend. “Enough with the hugging!” Harper suddenly being pulled away from him by no other than Adam. Taylor looked at him with a quizzical look. Adam lifts up his chin while he looked back at him menacingly. “Who is he, Harper?” Taylor asked without breaking his eye contact with Adam. He didn’t like this guy. He might be a threat to his relationship with Harper. “Uh…Taylor, this is Adam, my new schoolmates. We’re on the same team in the class…Adam…This is Taylor, our senior…and my best friend…” Harper introduces them in a rather awkward way. “I’ll take you back home tonight, Harper.” Taylor suddenly offered. He reaches for her hand, but Adam slapped his hand away. “Have your parents teach you some manners at home? You should ask the lady whether she wants it or not first.” He said, preventing him from taking Harper away. He completely despises this Taylor guy. Taylor was about to say something to defend himself, but Harper quickly cut his word. “He’s right, Taylor. I don’t want to go home tonight…” Taylor furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “What happened, Harper? Is there something wrong with your parents again?” Taylor asked caringly. “Nothing happened, Taylor…I just remembered that we have to finish the project tonight, so I’ll stay at Adam’s place tonight….Right, Adam?” Harper looked at him hopefully. She hoped that he could cooperate with her this time to get rid of Taylor quickly. Adam whisked his head towards her, totally shocked by her sudden lies. Taylor looked back at him, raising one of his eyebrows waiting for his reply. “Oh, yes! That project is so important…we need to get it done tonight…totally..” he said. Taylor let out a deep sigh when he saw Adam took Harper’s hand and led her into his expensive car. His parents must be wealthy, he scoffed. “Thank you for helping me again from Taylor…” Harper said as Adam drove away from the gallery. “Why can’t you just told him the truth that you didn’t him in front of his stupid face and get rid of him easily? Boys nowadays are slow on picking up the hints.” He said ignorantly. “I can’t do that, Adam. You don’t understand! Don’t you have any best friends before? He always supported me when my parents didn’t. He always came to my ballet practice and made time for me every time I needed him.” She groaned in annoyance. “Maybe he didn’t have any better thing to do…What a poor man.” He sneered. Harper rolled back her eyes at him and sulked on her chair. “Since we’re out already. How about we watch some movies?” He grinned widely at her. She looked back at him in disbelief. “But we haven’t brought the ticket…” Harper replied. “Who says that we need to buy a ticket to get in?” he curved a sly smirk on his face. Harper gave him a confused look. “What’s that supposed to mean?” she asked. Adam laughs heartily. “Soon you’ll know…Just come with me and pick whatever movies that you like.” He said. **************** It turns out Adam only needs to talk with the lady in the front door to let them in. The lady finally agrees only if he could give her his phone number as an exchange to let them in freely. They were lucky because it was midnight already, and the studio was quite empty that they could pick any seat they like. “Really, Adam? Are you that poor to even buy a movie ticket?” she giggled as she took a seat. “On the contrary, Ms. Brown. My brother could book the whole theatre for you but not tonight. Why bother to use money when I can use my charm?” he said cockily. His brother? So he had a brother, but why he never mentioned him before? He didn’t even have his picture in his apartment. “You’re unbelievable, Adam…But I like you…” Harper said as she slurped her big size soda drink. Adam’s face blushed. He was lucky that the studio was dark so that she couldn’t see his red cheek. This is the first time for him that a girl as sweet as Harper to like him. He was the devil that is not worthy of love or affection. “I like you too, Harper…” He mumbled slowly. ***************** “It was a great movie! Last time I haven’t watch it till the end because Taylor ruined the whole thing.” Harper said as they went out from the studio. Adam, on the other hand, didn’t pay any attention to the movie. He kept his eyes on her face most of the time. “What do you think, Adam? This is the first time you went into a movie, right? Do you like it? Did the darkness and the sound scared you?” Adam couldn’t help but to laughs at her questions. “I was used to the darkness… Believe me, I can handle more than that.” He said in amusement. “We’re here…Are you sure you don’t want to stay in my place tonight?” Adam said as they reach back into her ballet studio. “Thanks, Adam. You already did a lot for me…I had a really good time tonight.” Harper said, smiling. “Wait, Harper…” Adam stopped her by grabbing her hand. She unexpectedly landed a peck on his right cheek. “Good night, Adam…” she said and then stormed into the studio. She locked the door behind her. Her heart is pounding wildly inside her chest, but she smiled widely. What is she doing? She’s never been an aggressive type of woman before, but Adam had made her lose control over herself. Adam was feeling struck by what happened earlier between them. He has never been kissed before. Now he understands why human being mostly couldn’t reject his sin. It melts his heart and flies him high to the sky until he was certain that he could reach heaven. The only place that the devil can only dream of. They were condemned for eternity to stay inside hell. He already broke the law by coming to earth. He took out his phone and looked into his gallery. It only has one photo inside of it. It was a photo of Harper when she fell asleep last night on his bed. It still amazed him how this insignificant human can make him feel. He put one hand on his cheek, where she planted her kiss earlier. Can tonight be considered as their first date? He scoffed at his own ridiculous thought.
