Chapter 2: Pretending To Be Poor

" It is good that we pretended to be a nobody because that is where we can measure the real person when we are in need."

-AUSTIN LUKE POV-

Savannah knew me as Luke Uwien. She did not know my true identity. That is the reason why Savannah left me before because I am poor. To this day, she still looks down on me. So I want to deceive her.

And I will never forget the day she left and hurt me, and that same day made me realize to fight for my right as the heir of the Winston Empire.

-FLASHBACK-

I bought a tuxedo for me to wear to Savannah’s graduation. And also for her not to be ashamed of her friends that she has a dropout boyfriend. I also reserved a bouquet which is the most expensive in the shop in our place. I spent a lot of time-saving money for Sav’s graduation to make her happy.

I work at the coffee shop of my best friend Brylle Reed. I went in at 8 in the morning and came home at 9 in the evening. So I did not have much time with Sav. But she understood me, so I was excited to surprise her.

I was very nervous when I walked into Sav's school. Imagine my girlfriend is the valedictorian. I know a lot of men who like her because she is also beautiful. So I adore Savannah because she is faithful to me.

"Hi! Mine, I am so proud of you! Congratulations! Flowers for you!" I greeted and handed the flower to her, but she did not accept the flower.

"Don't call me Mine because I am not yours!" Savannah replied with a raised eyebrow, and her companions laughed. I was surprised by her answer. I thought she was only joking.

"I know, you are kidding, right?" I asked her with a wide smile.

"No, I'm not! Let us break up! I have a new boyfriend, and he's rich, unlike you, who's poorer than a rat!" Savannah replied with a frown, and I was nervous. When I heard the word “break up” I was dizzy.

So I could not speak. I thought first about what I should answer to Savannah because I was very shocked by the incident. It is okay for me that Savannah embarrasses me in front of her friends. As long as she does not leave me, I am still happy.

"I will not let you break up with me because I know you still love me! Forgive me because I am poor. I promise you I will give you a good life in the future. I also dreamed of making you enjoy a luxurious life that you deserved, so please give me another chance," I pleaded in front of her while crying because I can't afford to lose her in my life. Savannah has been my world since Mom disappeared.

" I am tired of your promises, Luke! That even one promise you have made you never fulfilled! So let me go because I am no longer happy!" Savannah said and left, but I called her. Indeed, I have not given her a gift yet. She was angry because I promised her that I would buy a couple of necklaces for the two of us.

" All right, you are free now. If this is an effective way to make you happy, I will stay away from you, even if I am hurt. But, if we ever meet again in the future, please don't remind me of my horrible past with you!" then I threw the bouquet and wiped away my tears as I left. And I also threw away the necklace that was for her. I would have worn it on her now.

When I got home, I called Brylle. I canceled my reservation at her Mom's restaurant. And I asked my Dad's best friend Jefferson Parkston to assist me in studying abroad because I wanted to take my Dad’s Company into the hands of my Aunt Elizabeth Victoria Grayson.

The next day I left immediately for the USA to study at Harvard University.

"Promise, when I come back. I will make you fall in love with me Sav, and leave you in tears as you did to me." I whispered.

-END OF FLASHBACK-

When Savannah and I met again, I felt nothing for her but hatred and revenge. Because I want to start my revenge on Savannah, I send a message to her.

"Ms. Miller, My Boss said, you have an interview tomorrow, 3 p.m in his office. If you are hired tomorrow as secretary, treat me to dinner, okay?"

"Is that true? Maybe you are just pranking me!" she replied, which made me laugh.

"Yes! I am serious!" I replied.

"Okay! Thank you, Luke!" she replied with a heart emoji. So I never replied to her. I do not want her to think that I have forgiven her.

-THE NEXT DAY-

Around 2:30 p.m., I called Brylle.

"Bro, I would like to ask you a favor," I said in a low voice.

"It is miracle, for the first time. You asked for a favor. What is that?" He asked curiously.

"I want you to interview my new secretary!" I replied briefly.

"Why me? Do you have a meeting?" He asked me again. I knew he was wondering, so I told him the truth. For him, to agree.

"She is my ex-girlfriend, and I want you to act temporarily as her Boss!" I directly told him.

"Okay! What time is the interview?" He replied without hesitation. Brylle witnessed what hardship I have gone through since Savannah left me.

" 3 p.m!" I replied shortly.

" Okay! I'll be there in a minute. Bye!" Then Brylle hung up the phone.

Less than three in the afternoon, Savannah arrived. So far, of all those who have applied as my secretary, only Savannah has not worn a skirt. I immediately remembered that I forbade her to wear shorts and skirts before. So I smiled at my thought.

"Why are you smiling, Luke?" She asked me innocently.

"Because you look like my Mom in your clothes," I teased her.

"Thanks for the compliment!" then she glared at me. And suddenly, Brylle came in, so Savannah was surprised.

"Good afternoon, Sir! I am Savannah Miller..." Savannah introduced herself, but Brylle spoke.

"Luke ex-girlfriend? Am I right?" Brylle said directly. I was surprised by Brylle's question, same with Savannah. We were both stunned.

"Yes, Sir!" Savannah replied, and then her face turned red.

"Okay! Because Luke begged me to accept you, then you can start tomorrow. And regarding your requirements, just give it to the HR Department," Brylle instructed her.

"Really? Do I already have a job? Thank you, Sir! Thank you so much, Luke!" Savannah replied cheerfully. She did not know why I hired her.

"Have fun first, Sav, because you will also cry when the time comes!" I whispered and smiled fakely.

"You are welcome! You can go now!" Brylle told her coldly.

"Okay, Sir! Once again, Thank you so much!" Savannah said and left.

"Wow! It's like you imitated my coldness, Brylle!" I told him while laughing.

Brylle Reed is the person you can trust, many celebrities like him, but no woman has ever made him fall in love. He was just enjoying his life. So, I envy him because he has never experienced being brokenhearted.

"What do you think of me? Not a great actor?" Brylle replied and rolled his eyes.

"Sorry! I forgot!" Then we both laughed.

And I received a message from Savannah.

"Thank you so much, Luke! I will treat you to dinner later." Then I laughed.

"What's funny, Bro?" Brylle asked me while looking at me seriously.

"Secret! The game has started, So just support me, okay? I will leave you first. Goodbye, Boss!" then I winked at him.

I want to play with Savannah first, while she does not know that I am her Boss. Once she knows that I am her real Boss, I will stay away from her.

"Will Luke go to their Dinner Date? What is Luke's plan for their Dinner Date? Does Savannah have the money to treat Luke? Let's see."
