“Kari!... I got you.” Her eyes slowly opened to watch as Ragnarök ran over to her, “What happened?” he helped her to a sitting position,
“What?” her mind fuzzy and her sight blurry,
“Come on, let's get you to the medic.” He gently picked her up but she winced,
“Put me down, please put me down.” The metal in her side was scratching at her insides every time she moved. “I can’t move it hurts too much.” He re-positioned her to where her wounded side was facing away from his body.
“No! You need a medic, or you will die. From infection and blood loss.” He carried her off and the world began to grow dark, “Keep your eyes open, stay focused.” His voice kept her conscious, but they couldn’t keep her eyes open. She listened to his heartbeat and his voice rattled in his chest.
“I’ll try.” She rested her head on his shoulder as he carried her when she heard something. Out of nowhere she felt the open air carrying her. Gabriel had flung Ragnarök onto the ground. She mentally cushioned her fall so she wouldn’t get hurt any worse. She looked up to see Discharge and Ragnarök fighting Gabriel. However, they were losing. With Discharge pinned to the ground and Ragnarök slowly getting up, Kari pulled herself to a sitting position. Her wound worsened with every movement; Gabriel took Discharge's band and was heading for her.
“Looks like my team wins.” He reached for her, but she mentally grabbed him and tossed him a little way, but it wasn’t enough to even faze him. Ragnarök lunged at him, and he pulled at Gabriel's band,
“Leave her alone.” Kari sat watching helplessly. Gabriel kicked Ragnarök and he opened his wings.
“Back off, I’m winning this for my team!” he charged so fast she didn’t see. All she knew was Ragnarök was lying in the dirt trying to get up. Kari pushed to her feet, “Now give me your band.” Gabriel grabbed Kari by the stomach and his hand pressed against the wound and a shriek like sound radiated from her. Her world went red and she turned to Gabe. She grabbed his face and pushed him to the ground. She mentally grabbed him and slammed him on the ground. Her body ignored the pain as she fought him like she was perfectly fine. He tried to fend her off, but she lunged at his face when Ragnarök grabbed her,
“Stop. Calm down, come back...” her instinct drove her to pry his arms off of her. She lunged at Gabriel, who was lying out of breath on the ground. Her mental hands held him still as she made her way to him, but Ragnarök grabbed her again, but this time he squeezed her in a fiery grip. She screamed and fell. The world went black, “Kari ... Kari... wake up now.” She opened her eyes to see Ragnarök carrying her from the arena.
“What happened?” her voice was frail and weak from the blood loss. She felt as if she couldn’t stay awake.
“We won, but you lost it.... what happened to you?” She laid her head against his chest,
“ I never felt pain like that... I just wanted it to stop...” His heartbeat kept her in a calm state as he walked her down the halls of the compound,
“It looked more like you were trying to kill him.” his voice sounded stern and disappointed and her heart began to beat faster.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to…” he opened and placed her on a table,
“We’ll talk after you get better.” He walked back to the door when another man walked up to talk to him. The room looked like a standard hospital room. It had white floors and its walls were a soft blue. She was lying on an examination table.
“Excuse me, but I need you to remove your suit, so I can look at your injury better.” A man looked at her with calm emerald green eyes. His hair was light blonde, and he wore glasses and standard doctor robes. “Here.” He handed her a medical gown, “I’ll see a nurse in to help you undress. I’ll be back.” he left and only a moment later a girl with dark bluish gray hair walked in. She helped Kari sit, and she pulled the suit off and helped her into the garments. She never said anything, but then she began to sniffle. She stepped away from Kari and sneezed, but as she did a cloud of smoke appeared. When it cleared, the nurse was standing there, but she wasn’t a girl anymore. A boy stood.
“Damn it, I swear whenever I sneeze… Excuse me Miss.” He left in a huff and the doctor came back into the room. He had a tray ,
“Oh don’t mind the nurse, he has a dual personality.” The doctor moved a stool over beside the examination bed. “Alright, let's look at your injury.” He helped Kari lay back against the table. He lifted the gown, and he looked at the wound, “Well, there’s good and bad news. The good news is there’s no sign of infection. Bad news, your blood has started to clot to keep you from bleeding, but I have to pull this metal out, so bear with me.” he turned and grabbed pliers, and he put his hand gently against her skin as he used the pliers to grab the piece of metal. “On the count of three I’m going to pull it out, one…” he snatched it out of her. She winced, and she tried to turn over, but he kept her still.
“What happened to two and three?”
“Oh two and three.” He put the metal in the tray, and he placed his hand over her wound. At first, it burned, but then the pain seemed to die down after every second. A nice feeling washed over her, and she felt much better, “You’re all done.” He stood up and walked over to the sink and washed his hands.
“But…” he looked at her and he handed her the ruined suit,
“Your fine, trust me. Your wound was bad but you’ll be fine. However, I must recommend you rest for a couple of days and try not to do anything strenuous. You have lost a lot of blood, which explains why you’re dizzy, but you can go back to your team.” The whole time he was writing stuff down,“ I’m going to get you some regular close because your suit needs to be repaired. Write down your sizes.” He handed her a data pad, and she typed them. He took the data-pad from her, “I’ll be right back. Also, someone has been waiting for you.” He opened the door and Ragnarök walked in,
“Thanks Doc,” her leader's worried expression changed to relief as he looked her over,
“You owe me.” Ragnarök grinned, “I’ll be right back.” Kari sat up, and she ran her fingers through her hair,
“Hey, you... Do you feel any better?” He walked over to her. He was wearing normal clothing; a pair of black pants and a sweater-like shirt.
“I guess... the doctor told me I will have to rest for a few days.” She looked at the ground, and she felt him reach for her face. She closed her eyes and flinched away out of habit. She waited for the sting of someone hitting her, but it never came. He just stood looking at her confused.
“Why’d you flinch?” she scooted back on the table and curled up into a ball,
“I’m just used to being hit when I’ve done something wrong or even just forgetting to do something.” Her hair fell into her face as she hid behind it like a wall.
“I’m not going to hit you. That’s cruel.” He hopped up onto the table beside her, “I’m different. I don’t abuse, I amuse.” She tilted her head to look at him. Her hair hung in her face, revealing one of her blue eyes, “Don’t look at me like that.” She instantly looked away, but he chuckled, “I’m just kidding,”
“It didn’t sound like it.” he gently touched her face, and he brought her close. Her heart raced as he kissed her. He pulled her closer, when the doctor came back into the room she disappeared.
“You’re kissing air now? Ragnarök, that’s a new level even for you.” She scooted away and reappeared,
“I was kissing her, but she moved away.” The Doctor handed Kari some clothes and he grabbed Ragnarök,
“Put these on, then you can go back.” he threw Ragnarök outside, and he slowly trailed after. She slowly pulled the medical gown off and began to get dressed. She slid into the new clothes, and she walked over to the mirror. She looked over at herself. Her eyes had become dull, and her skin was a pale brown. . Even her snow-white hair had turned a dull gray. She wore long gray sweatpants and a dark blue T-shirt, and black sneakers. When she was done, she left the room and Ragnarök was waiting for her.
