The demon king goes into the castle

“One of the women that you saved, did one of them have golden-colored hair?”

“Golden hair? One of them is a nun and wears a covering so I am not sure but the other one, her hair is yellow? Was it golden?”

After hearing that, Elmer sure that Lance is indeed the one who has saved the princess.

“Lance, the one you have saved earlier inside the church is the princess of the kingdom. The king and queen wanted to say their gratitude to you. Can you come with me tomorrow to the castle?”

“Eh, princess? Not to mention the king and queen want to say thanks for me?”

“Yes, because of that, can you come to the castle?”

After that, Lance acting like a fool who isn’t sure what to do.

“But my clothes are cheap ones and I am not sure whether I have presentable etiquette. Not to mention that I am just a halfling.”

“Don’t worry about that. You’ll only have a short meeting tomorrow. As for your clothes, I’ll bring you tomorrow to my place to clean up and have a change of clothes before meeting with the king. The king also doesn’t discriminate. Although most of the people is looking at halflings with half eye closed, the king always regards a halfling just like any other citizen.”

Hearing that Elmer is already dead set about that, Lance couldn’t refute anymore.

“Alright then. Will you pick me up here in the morning?”

“Yes. Please be ready at that time.”

After finishing his task, Elmer and Clyde then go back to Elmer’s place.

“Clyde, as you know, the king gives you a limit of one month for you to improve yourself. I will do my best to make sure that you will become the perfect hero. Because of that, I want to explain to you some things before we start our training tomorrow.”

“I will follow your instruction.”

Elmer is satisfied with Clyde that is also why he chooses to comply with the king’s order. If it was someone that he doesn’t like, he doesn’t even want to teach that person. One of the traits that make Elmer wanted to teach Clyde is for Clyde’s humbleness. He doesn’t know if it was because Clyde is still oblivious or naïve, he hopes that Clyde will stay true to his character and won’t become arrogant later on.

Later that night, Elmer is teaching Clyde about the basics of mana channel, utilization, and mana technique knowledge. It was all entirely new for Clyde and he listened diligently with rapt attention. For Clyde who uses mana without understanding the concept behind it and after understanding, there will be significant differences. As if a child who used a knife for beating instead of cutting, a wrong way to utilize a tool would greatly affect the outcome.

That night was bound to be a sleepless night for many individuals. Clyde who is recounting all the knowledge inside his room, Elmer who is planning a training menu for Clyde inside his study. The king who is watching the moon while letting out a deep sigh and the crown prince that is thinking hard for his next scheme. Milla who stayed up all night training and accumulating mana. Princess Alicia who stuffed her face into her pillow as she is embarrassed and shy remembering about Lance.

On the other hand, Lance as the one who is involved with those people who couldn’t sleep tonight is sleeping peacefully on the inn.

The next day, in the morning, Elmer is already waiting in front of the inn and without waiting any longer, Lance is brought back to Elmer’s place to take a bath and have a change of clothes. While Lance is inside Elmer’s house, he is also using this opportunity to check out the house of Elmer. He wasn’t surprised to see Clyde in the training ground behind of the house. What makes Lance is interested is the hidden room inside Elmer’s house. He couldn’t get inside and search around but it is worthy to take note of that there’s a hidden room inside the house.

After getting changed, Lance then followed Elmer to the castle. Inside the hall, the king, queen, crown prince, and princess Alicia is already waiting. The moment Lance stepped inside the hall; princess Alicia immediately whispered to the queen.

“Royal mother, he is the one.”

Hearing confirmation from Alicia, the queen nodded and smiled at her. Just like how Clyde changed when he uses the clothes that Elmer prepared for him, Lance also did the same although it wasn’t as much as Clyde.

“Greetings your majesty.”

Elmer kneeled down as he made his greeting but surprisingly, Lance didn’t do the same. Someone can ask Lance to do many things and he won’t mind but kneeling down isn’t one of them. As a former demon king, bowing down and putting himself in a lower position than the other party is something unacceptable.

Elmer was a bit surprised seeing Lance’s behavior but looking at the awkward gestures as if he was at lost on what to do as if he doesn’t know how to kneel. The king realized the awkward situation and he only smiled bitterly as he waved his hand to Elmer, signaling that he shouldn’t force Lance to kneel.

Lance realized that all of the peo0ple is looking at him so he awkwardly bends his body and greeted the king with a wry smile.

“Greetings, your majesty.”

“I heard that you are the one who saved our daughter yesterday?”

“Mister Lance, do you remember me?”

“Ah, Miss Alicia. So, it seemed that you’re the princess.”

Alicia was a bit sad when Lance mentioning her title. After all, many people find it intimidating to befriend someone from the royal family. Many people after hearing that Alicia is a princess, somehow they act differently towards her.

“Since it was indeed you’re the one who saved our daughter, we would like to give you a reward.”

“Ah, there’s no need for that. It wasn’t saving the princess for something in return. I just did that because I happened to be nearby the vicinity.”

“What a noble heart but we can’t really do that. What if the public knows that we didn’t reward someone who saved a member of the royalty? No one will be willing to help us anymore in the future.”

Lance thinks for a moment before speaking again. “Since that’s the case, can I ask what kind of reward I could get?”

It might seem to be a naïve question but if there’s someone behind Lance that is plotting against the royal family, he might be asking for something outrageous. The king is now scrutinizing Lance and once again shows his wisdom with his reply.

“We didn’t know what kind of things that you want and we are afraid that we will let you down. Could you tell us what you wanted first and we’ll see whether we could fulfill it for you or not? If we couldn’t we will try to find the best alternative.”

“Okay. I think if it’s the kingdom, there wouldn’t be a problem at all fulfilling my wish. I would like the king to bestow upon me a mana technique for elf race.”
