Tension clouded Aurela’s emotions as she felt her heart beating in anticipation, staring at her dad, the Alpha of the Moonlight pack, who was about to make a pronouncement about who would succeed his throne between her and her twin sister Aurora. She had worked so hard for this day, always studying and training to take her father’s place when she finally came of age. The day was finally here when she would be announced as the Alpha of the Moonlight pack. She stared at her mom and twin sister from across her seat and she could tell they weren’t happy about this occasion, but they tried to conceal it from other members of the pack. Her mom, Kathryn, had always preferred and supported her twin Aurora ever since they were kids, so she wasn’t surprised at all. She caught a glimpse of her mate, the pack’s current beta, Ethan who was genuinely happy and smiled at her from time to time like a proud mate would do. Aurela could tell that he loved her so much, and she loved him as much as he did. Having his presence there was the best support she could ever ask for. The piercing sound of her father’s voice made her focus on him as the hall went quiet. “This meeting has been on hold for a very long time as it has been difficult to choose between both of my daughters who would rule our pack, but a decision has been made finally as a new leader will be announced today.” An uproar spread across the hall as everyone broke into applause. Aurela couldn’t contain her excitement as she kept on smiling sheepishly. “Before you is my lovely daughter and the next Alpha of the moonlight pack.” Aurela stood up and was about walking towards her father when he dropped the last words. “Aurora Smith…” he announced with so much happiness. The hall went silent as everybody stared at themselves with confusion written all on their faces. They had expected it to be Aurela, seeing how much she had worked for that position. Aurela looked at her mother and saw her beaming with so much happiness. She should have known from the moment that her father delayed the announcement, something was off. The atmosphere in the hall became tight even though the crowd was cheering. She stood frozen and watched as her twin sister, Aurora ran past her to receive the crown from their father. “This cannot be happening,” Aurela muttered under her breath as she shut her eyes, hoping it was all a dream and maybe she was hallucinating. But opening her eyes she still saw the crowd cheering for her twin sister. She felt shame wash over her as the crowd stared at her. As the first child, it was her right, even without working hard for it, she should have earned it, but here she was being betrayed by her father whom she looked up to all her life. She met the face of her mate, which was filled with so much confusion as he kept on staring at her and demanding answers. “This cannot be!!” She yelled in anger, causing the hall to fall quiet. She walked towards her father with her hands folded into a fist and avoided paying attention to anyone. “Dad, you must be joking, right?” She asked amidst the tears that threatened to fall out of her eyes. “Do you think Dad is stupid? You should know your place, Aurela!” You bragged a lot about this and now here you…” “Mind your damn business, Aurora!! She growled in anger.” “Aurela, you do not deserve the position of an Alpha, even though you trained so hard for it, you do not have a wolf. How would you protect the pack when it’s under attack?” Her father sneered. She couldn’t hold back her tears, that was the only flaw she had. She had no wolf and had to rely on her human power, but her twin sister had a wolf already. She stared at her father in tears, hoping he would change his mind. “You should learn to respect my decisions, Aurela.” I’m your Alpha and father, he scowled, causing her to step back in fright. She tightened her fist as her eyes moved from her mother’s evil smile to the smirk on her twin sister’s face and back to her father’s cold stares. “You all do not deserve me either!!” She yelled as she left the hall with tears falling from her eyes uncontrollably. She got into her room and let out all the sorrows she had been holding in. Her twin sister was least concerned about this position. She worked so hard for this, and now they choose to reap her off her right. She hated ever trusting her father even though the signs were there for her to doubt him. Suddenly she remembered she hadn’t spoken to Ethan and he had not come to check up on her. “Where could he be? She questioned herself.” She would talk to him so they would leave the pack together because she couldn’t stand the shame of letting her twin sister rule her. Even though she was not convinced he would accept her suggestion she was quite sure Ethan would always be by her side and support her. A few minutes later, she was already in his quarters and headed straight to his room. As soon as she approached his room, she felt a sharp pain in her chest and found it hard to breathe. She tried to calm down when suddenly she heard a moan from Ethan’s room. Her eyes fell on the door which was slightly open, and she pulled the doorknob a little bit more just to be hit by her worst nightmare. Her jaw dropped at what she was seeing. It would have been better with another woman, but not this one. She stood frozen on the spot and new tears fell down her cheeks as she watched her mate thrusting in and out of her twin sister like his life depended on it. “Oh yes, Ethan… harder…f*ck..” she moaned in pleasure. “You want more, huh?” He whispered and yelled as his pace increased. Aurela felt her world falling before her very eyes, she couldn’t believe her mate would do this to her. “Ethan, what are you going to do about Aurela? You know how much she loves you,” Aurora suddenly said. Aurela wasn’t sure she wanted to hear what he would say next but a part of her was willing to listen to them. “I don’t think she is stupid enough to imagine us being together after losing the crown. I never loved her and now that she has nothing left, I will just reject her, and we can be together, he said without remorse. Aurela pushed the door open with her eyes filled with tears. “What are you doing here, Aurela?” Ethan asked in shock. “You took my position from me, and now you want my mate? How much more do I have to sacrifice for you?” Aurela yelled at her twin sister, not paying attention to Ethan’s words. She raised her hand to slap her twin sister but to her surprise, it was caught midway in the air by Ethan who ended up slapping her instead. Aurela held her cheeks in shock as tears flooded her eyes. “You slapped me because of her?” “She’s your Alpha and you can’t lay a finger on her because of your tragedy,” Ethan added. “You are supposed to be my mate, Ethan. How could you do this to me.?” “You mean absolutely nothing to me, and you never meant a thing to me,” he sneered. She noticed the smirk on her sister’s face as she moved her hair slightly to the side, revealing her bare neck, and drew closer to Ethan. “No, this cannot be happening… she muttered under her breath, but before she could say another word, Ethan had already sanked his teeth on Aurora’s neck, marking her as his. “She couldn’t believe the amount of betrayals she had received in one day. “I’m glad you found out about this yourself, you have saved me the stress of explaining, and as the beta of this pack I cannot spend the rest of my life with someone of lower status.” Aurela could sense what was about to happen to her and she couldn’t bear it. “Ethan please, I beg you in the name of the moon goddess, please do not do this to me.” She pleaded in tears. “I, Ethan, beta of the moonlight pack, hereby reject you, Aurela Smith, daughter of Alpha Roland Smith, as my mate.” She clutched her chest in pain as the mate bond broke, leaving her broken and in tears. She felt her mind burning in rage as she watched both of them smiling without having a slight pity for her. Aurela took hesitant steps backward with so much pain in her heart. Her only choice right now was to talk to her father to plead with Aurora to let go of her mate. As soon as she got to the pack house and was about to push the door open, what she heard next made her freeze halfway.
