She opened the door to their past just a tiny bit to peek in, and in doing so, she understood that he hadn’t been the same after Mike’s and Carol’s deaths. There had been an unusual intensity about him when they were together, but the only element of it she’d noticed—or bothered to pay attention to—was the strain between him and Luke. Now she thought he’d become quieter and more introspective after Mike and Carol died, bottling things up instead of letting them breathe.
