Chapter 6

I don’t know if this is only because I am conscious that Xavion might be staring at me from somewhere I don’t know or if I just urgently need to go to the bathroom again. I have been there for the third time and we haven’t even been here for an hour. Keshia, who we saw is having fun with the guy who’s grilling the barbecue, narrowed her eyes at me. “What’s the matter?” she asked curiously. I smiled and shook my head. “It’s nothing,” I replied. “I just feel like I need to go to the bathroom…” “Again?” Synne asked. I nodded and held onto my stomach. “Are you having a bad stomach?” Keshia asked. “I have some meds in my bag for that.” I smiled and shook my head. “It’s not a bad stomach. I just feel like I need to go to the bathroom again.” The two looked at me with furrowed brows, probably not believing what I am saying. Well, even I would not believe me if I were they. I can’t understand myself. Why am I even feeling this way? Uneasy, I stood up from my seat and started to walk to the comfort room. Some men are smiling at me as I passed by them and I can only feel even more awkward with this huge crowd. I am kind of regretting that I wasn’t the sociable type when I was growing up. None of this would have bothered me right now. I took a sigh of relief when I finally reached the bathroom. I was right on time because a woman just came out of the room. She was wiping her lips, making me narrow my eyes at her. Thinking that it was just nothing, I opened the door but was shocked to see a man inside the room. He’s zipping his pants up. My eyes widened when he suddenly turned to me. “s**t! Sorry!” I immediately turned around and left the room. Damn it! That was embarrassing! “Hey, wait!” I heard the guy calling me from behind and I only ran faster. I don’t know how to face him right now. No, I didn’t see anything but it still feels like I violated something. Well, I was there at the worst time possible. Why would the woman leave first anyway? She should have locked the door! Damn it! My heart was racing fast like it was me who got caught. He’s zipping his pants up and that only means one thing. The woman who left earlier and that guy had—damn it! I shook my head and ran to the backyard. I could still hear the guy’s voice calling me and I wanted nothing but to evaporate right in this instant. I bit my lip hard as I tried to look behind me when I suddenly bounced to the ground, colliding with someone. “Ouch!” I whimpered as I tried to stand up. I massaged my elbow that supported me on the fall and was about to glare at the person I bumped into when I heard him speak. “Hey.” A familiar low baritone registered in my ears. “Are you okay?” Oh, God! Do I really have to deal with this tonight? “I’m fine.” I refused to look up because I already know who he is without even looking at him. The familiar musky scent that I smelled when I was seated next to him in the stadium is now mixed with the odor of the smoke from the cigarettes and the liquor. “Hey, Miss!” My eyes widened when I heard the voice of the guy from the bathroom again. f**k! When will I even have my peace of mind? “s**t!” I grimaced when I felt my elbow hurting. But I have no time left. I don’t want to talk to that guy. I don’t know what he’s going to tell me or do to me. He already f****d a girl inside the bathroom and I don’t know what he could do to me. He’s scary. However, before I could even take a step away, Xavion held my hand and pulled me closer to him, making me bump into his hard chest. I winced at the impact of the collision of my forehead and his pecs. “What do you want?” Xavion asked in a hard tone. He sounded really intimidating and I could feel his aura radiating out of him. I can still remember how he saved a thin guy from being bullied just by passing through. Now, I actually get why everyone is scared of him. It has only been a week since classes started but I already have an idea on how scary Xavion York Zachory is. No one would dare mess with him. “X-Xavion…” The guy who was following me stuttered at the sight of him. “What do you want?” he repeated but now, there’s more emphasis on his words. Even with my back turned on him, I can picture the guy shiver in front of Xavion. “I-I j-just need to ask her something.” Xavion looked down at me. “What is his business with you?” I bit my lip, feeling a little antsy because I can’t answer him right now. “I just…” I trailed, searching for the right words to conceal what I really wanted to say. Xavion raised his brow. “What?” I swallowed hard. “He left the door unlocked and I walked in on him doing his business.” That was the best sentence I could come up with in this stressful situation. Damn it! Why am I so unlucky? Xavion seemed to not believe me. Well, who would? I was totally overreacting over this. I know that. It’s just that I don’t know how to actually react in situations where my anxiety is being tested. He turned to the man again. “I believe you have nothing to say to her now,” he said. “But—” “You may leave.” Xavion’s voice had so much conviction that even I flinched a little when he cut him off. “Y-yes, Xavion. I’m sorry,” the guy said in a trembling voice before finally leaving. When I was sure that I heard him running away, I looked behind me and let out a heavy sigh of relief. “What did you really see?” I jolted on my spot, startled by Xavion’s sudden question. I looked at him and shrugged. “Nothing,” I replied before motioning to leave when he held my wrist. I didn’t want to but because of what he did, I wasn’t able to stop myself from glaring at him. “What?” I asked. He looked down at my elbow and there I realized that it looked red and bruised now. I couldn’t see it a while ago because the light was blocked by Xavion’s body. No wonder it hurts. “You’re hurt,” he said, stating the obvious. “This is nothing,” I told him, smiling so he would be more convinced. But he wasn’t. His eyes bore into mine like he’s trying to hypnotize me into doing what he wants me to do. And I am afraid that it’s actually working on me. He pulled my hand and took a closer look at my arm. “It has scratches. Come on,” he said, casually holding my hand to drag me to somewhere I don’t know. “No, wait. Where are you taking me?” I asked, already panicking because he’s pulling me behind him. “This is nothing. And I need to go back to my friends!” He stopped and threw me a serious look. “We’ll just apply some ointment. I believe they have it upstairs,” he said and then pulled me behind him again. And again, I was left with no other choice. If I retaliate, I have a feeling that he will not budge. Why would he? He doesn’t bow to anyone. Much less to me, a freshman. He pulled me upstairs until we reached a huge bedroom. He let go of my hand. “Stay on the bed first,” he told me as he instantly found the door to the bathroom. I looked around and couldn’t help but wonder how this is a perfect place for a party. It’s almost in the middle of a forest so no neighbors would be able to report a public disturbance. Xavion came out of the bathroom holding a first aid kit. He immediately walked to me and sat beside me on the edge of the bed. He opened the box and grabbed the betadine and a gauze. He looked like he knows what he’s doing and I don’t even want to ask why. If he’s really a member of a fraternity then it’s possible that they are used to first aids because sometimes they have to get in a fight, or when they do their initiation—if that’s how it is in real life. “You’re quiet,” he uttered before holding my arm. “I am quiet,” I told him. He chuckled lowly before applying the gauze with the betadine solution on my cut. “You’re not flinching?” he asked with a raised brow. “It doesn’t hurt,” I answered. “Brave, I guess,” he mumbled under his breath but I was able to catch his words. “And coming from a woman, I am impressed.” I frowned at him and just watched him clean my wound before covering it with clean gauze. “I will not die, will I?” I kidded. He chuckled and shook his head. “Just don’t run fast and bump into a car,” he replied. “You were lucky you bumped into me.” I rolled my eyes. “You mean it was unfortunate that I bumped into you…” I looked around and sighed. “Someone else might have taken advantage of you had you not bumped into me, Anjelina.” I threw him a gaze. “Who would and why would someone do that anyway?” I asked him. “And how did you know my name?” It was still a mystery as to why he knows me. “Anyone who would have seen you tonight would be swept away with that little dress of yours,” he replied as he stared at me from head to foot. “Do you even know that everyone was talking about you ever since you got inside the door?” I swallowed hard. “Huh?” I don’t understand. Xavion smirked and leaned closer to me. “Don’t play dumb, Anjelina. No one can deny that you’re the prettiest face at this party. And maybe that’s why that guy’s been following you—” “No,” I interjected. “I walked in on him after he had s*x with a woman in the bathroom. I was scared of what he’s going to do to me that’s why I ran away.” I don’t even know why I am suddenly explaining. His jaw clenched. “That fucker…” he hissed. I suddenly grew cold by the tone of his voice. “It’s okay,” I tried to appease him. “It’s not like I was violated or something.” “Where are your friends?” he asked me. I pursed my lips. “Down by the barbecue,” I replied. He nodded before letting out a heavy breath, seemingly trying to calm himself. “Don’t walk on the hallways alone,” he told me like it’s a rule that I needed to follow. “That guy in the bathroom is a certified man w***e. You might be his target now.” His gaze darkened. “But that definitely won’t happen as long as I am in sight. So, don’t walk around alone.” I pouted. “I don’t understand.” “Well, you don’t have to understand. You just need to do as I say because I will definitely be in trouble if something bad happens to you.” I swallowed hard and stared at him while my heart started to pound hard against my chest. What did he just say?
