Vulcan ~
He had tried to stay away… Truly he did, even distanced himself... Attempted to be mean, said horrible things and yet, she always had a way of managing to make him soft. From her gentle gaze to her understanding words, she was perfect, but perfect is just a word used to describe someone. It seemed fitting yet still not enough.
If one could only truly put it into words, how it feels to look into someone’s eyes and expect to see color and yet you are met with their soul instead. A soul that yearns for yours, calls out to it and welcomes it home. These were the thoughts that possessed his mind during dinner. Tensing at Odette’s tone when she claimed to be the future Luna, but he didn’t correct her.
It was best no one knew they were mates it was the perfect cover he had to allow it. Sol’s angry menacing words echoed through his mind,
“If we lose her because of your stupidity then I will abandon you as well.” He snapped and rightfully so.
“Sol this keeps her safe, I rather lose her than have her die or be targeted.” He confided,
“She will be targeted anyways regardless of what you think or do, she will ALWAYS be targeted. And you pushing her away only puts her in danger we should be keeping her at our sides at all times.” Sol reasoned.
Though before he could respond he was distracted by Elias openly flirting with his mate, a menacing growl that vibrated loudly throughout the room escaped him. Seeing her flustered over it didn’t help the situation clenching his jaw as he forced himself to speak.
“Elias back off and let her go retire for the night” he snapped out while clenching the fork to the point it strained under the pressure. Watching his mate run off as he relaxed, Elias came to sit by him with an amused expression.
“Are you not going to save any of the ladies for the rest of us then?” He questioned while tossing a napkin playfully at the alpha.
Vulcan quickly swatted it away from his face “You know who she is, I’m just taking precautions.” He lied with ease, or so he thought.
Watching as Elias threw his head back bellowing laughter escaped from parted jaws, “now I know you are lying,” the man said still laughing.
“For as long as I have known you Vulcan you said you didn’t believe in that prophecy in the slightest and you want me to believe suddenly you do?” The man questioned.
He growled again as his wolf added salt to the wound “you don’t think things through.”
“Whatever, I think I’m done with this conversation unless there is a reason you are here,” he questioned his Beta.
The tone in the room immediately changed “my office” he said quickly moving to stand. Odette stood with them as he sent her a pointed look that meant stay. Allowing his Beta to follow him into his office closing the door as he sat at his chair.
“Well, I know you had us investigating her pack,” Elias said nervously. “And well we finally got the report back and it’s … well just look at it yourself.” He said seriously.
The documents were slid to him as he picked them up opening them to begin reading. There were two pictures of two men inside, who looked to be twins, one had extremely messy wild hair that fell to his shoulder with stormy grey eyes with tan skin the other had neater black hair with pale skin and blue eyes.
He paged through the documents but he nearly choked on air at what he found out. His golden eyes widened in pure shock as a hand ran through his red hair.
Ansel and Achlys Southcrest… were her brothers and better yet they had been locked away in an underground prison their entire lives all because of some stupid prophecy people were afraid of. He had always thought the thing was fake, could he still count this as a coincidence? The part of the prophecy ringing through his head ‘two brothers shall bring the death of millions…
Sol speaking gently “and after what their pack and family put them through …. They have a reason to.”
He quickly placed the documents away trying to brainstorm on what to do. Did she even know she had brothers? Should they release them and try to earn their favor? Or … keep them locked up in hopes that nothing ever happened.
But they were innocent! Just boys when they had been locked up, yet if he released them, he risked so many lives … He growled in frustration getting up to pace “for now tell no one, I have to figure out what I’m going to do about this.” He said quickly.
“Leave and tell no one what we discussed, keep getting information from the rat we placed.” And with words of being promised to do so, his Beta left leaving him alone with his thoughts.
He spent a couple of hours drowning himself in whisky. Before finally rising to head to bed, entering the room quietly to see her sleeping form on the couch, she had taken her hair out of the French braid she had worn today, its midnight blue waves reminded him of the sea, his hand reaching out as he twirled a bit of it around his finger.
Sitting back with a heavy sigh “My Little Flame” he whispered gently “what am I going to do with you?”
He moved to gently pick her up and place her on the massive bed. Silently working at removing combat boots and setting them aside, keeping his eyes purely on her face as he silently helped her out of jeans before pulling the comforter over her sleeping form.
He stripped throwing on boxers before climbing into bed, hesitating only briefly before situating her into his arms. Gently caressing her cheek as sparks flew to life, dancing upon the skin.
Her even breathing was a lullaby to him, tucking her head gently against his chest as he softly inhaled the scent of Jasmine and rain consuming him. “I have no idea what I’m going to do,” he told his mate tiredly, “but I’ll figure something out I promise.” He whispered to her before allowing himself to fall asleep with her in his embrace.
